Btw i cant believe some people are still denying the lag. Maybe they use their ipads 10 seconds a day only.

I'm going to go ahead and deny the lag, and I use my iPad a good four hours per day. I never saw it in 7, and I don't see it now in 8. And there's no way I'm sitting through all six minutes of some guy using his iPad and nattering in Russian, but with judicious use of fast-forwarding I watched a few examples of app closing and didn't see stuttering. Can you provide a timehack for that vid for when such a stutter occurs?

3:20 and 3:50, when iPad 3 stutters with choppy animation when closing app on iOS 8 GM.

I updated my 64GB iPad 3 (Wi-Fi only) last night and it was slow, choppy, unstable - all of those bad things, to the point of being unusable. At the behest of others in this thread, I left it alone overnight to do its thing. When I woke up, all was good - its fine now.

Ipad 3 here. Update working fine. Only exception I think Safari tabs seem to be reloading more often than before (curse you RAM).

I'm also responding on my work ipad2 and all is well.

I don't see any stutter at 3:20. Yeah, there's a slight, less-than-a-second delay at 3:50 as the app closes, but it's the map app which is pretty processor intensive, and all this guy is doing is opening an app using it for a few seconds, then closing it and starting another, so I guess I'm not surprised that occasionally there might be a delay to manage memory.

Doesn't look like a bug to me. Do you file a bug report every time your desktop or laptop pauses to write stuff to disk?

upgrading to iOS 8 on the iPad 3 right now.

Whatever version of iOS 7.x I had before was kinda choppy so I'm not too worried about it. Plus this iPad just sits on my desk and I use it to stream music and reply to imessages as I work... so no hardcore use from me anyway.

I have to say that since upgrade my iPad 3 to ios8 it feels faster and smoother, especially the animations. I always through it performanced poorly on ios7 and the ios8 update feels more optimised.

Really laughing at all you iPad 3 owners who foolishly updated to 8, yet alone 7. My iPad 3 runs just as fast as the day I bought it with iOS 6.1.2.

Really? You are "really laughing at" people who chose to update their iPad software? Wow. That's not pathetic at all.

And, yes...my iPad is slow since the update.

I updated to 8 and my iPad 2 lags. The last time I remember that everything was snappy on this device was when using iOS 6.x. Since I updated to 7 it lags and it is noticeable. Updating to 8 did not cure the lag but I think I am going to live with it as I want the new features.

The iPad 2 is a device from 2011 so it is not surprising that it lags, but if you were using iOS 7 your are already accustomed to lag anyway.

I still am not sure if the lag is worst on 8, but I think it is. It is specially noticeable when you change the orientation of the iPad like lets say from portrait to landscape when you are in the iOS main page with the icons. You can first see some animation and then after some lag you see the screen changing orientation. Activating the zoom with 3 fingers double tap also lags. I can not remember this lags on iOS 7.

I recommend everyone to turn off animations and other visual things in settings to make the experience better. I had to do it after updating to iOS 7 a year ago, and if you can, try to update via iTunes and not OTA.

The first hours after the update the device is going to be really sluggish so let it be in peace. It was better after letting it pass the night. Some reset of settings like network settings have helped others with sluggish WiFi. I have still not tried a full reset wiping the iPad with reinstallation of all the apps from scratch, but I don't have time for this. I have hundreds of apps.

Its not as bad as I thought on my iPad 2, with an OTA upgrade. Undecided whether to stay on iOS 8 or go back to 7?

Did you also have lag on iOS 7.x? Could you compare the lag on 7 vs 8?

My iPad 2 is running just fine, no noticeable changes from iOS7.

Nice for you. Do you remember how your iPad was with iOS 6? Was 6 better than 7?

iOS 8 is awfully slow on my iPad 2. :-(

I know the feeling :(

Yes, always good to do a full power reset too, then let it settle on charger overnight.

This choppy animation when closing apps was already present on 7.1.2. If you use your ipad 3 a lot, youll notice it. I mentioned it a while ago and many people denied. Now, in ios 8 it got 10x worse. Ive asked many people to submit bug report and feedback (i did too) and they did it, but apple didnt fix this bug, and instead made it worse. Thank god i looked into this earlier and didnt upgrade to ios 8!

For those who are still not sure about the closing app stutter, watch this youtube vid. http://youtu.be/fLG6g6KM6qU
Watch the WHOLE thing (~6 min) and youll see multiple times going hone screen stutters.

I use my iPad between three and six hours per day, and I've had only one instance of any activity remotely resembling lag, really a quarter-second stutter. Otherwise, it's been behaving precisely as it did with iOS 7. For giggles, I even installed it on my old 4S, just to see what would happen, and even then it worked as well as it ever did with 7, which is to say some slowness at the edges but mostly good.

I'm sorry that your iOS 8 experience leaves something to be desired, but I don't appreciate the insinuation that anyone that finds the device to work as before is somehow being dishonest, whether in support of an agenda or no.

I know the feeling :(

I had minimal lag on iOS 7. It was more random lag. iOS 8 on an OTA update lagged a lot. With a clean install it was more back to iOS 7 levels, but there were more small pauses before stuff opened, more jittery animations and safari was slower. 6 was better than 7, but 7.1 fixed a lot of those problems, not back to iOS 6 levels but close enough for me.

I'm on an iPad 3. I updated to iOS 8. I don't find it unstable at all. Yes, Safari seems to load Pages more often. It's not a deal killer though. Overall, I am enjoying the iOS 8 experience.

Same here, I have no problems with iOS8 on my iPad3, it's about the same as 7.xx. My only complaint so far is the photo app. no longer has camera roll. I hate the way photos are now organized.

I reverted back to iOS 7 on my iPad 2 and iPhone 5S.

iOS 8 was slow on my iPad 2. And it seemed fine on my 5S, although there were a few bugs here and there, nothing too bad. Downgrading them both to iOS 7 this morning, it is like night and day, very speedy and Safari works great now on my iPad like it used to.

I notice my iPad 3 seems a bit hesitant now and then, especially opening Apps the first time. After the first opening, they do pop open quickly.

Some other things seem to hesitate just enough to notice, now and then, but overall, the iPad 3 is quite usable.

NOTE: I did install iOS 8 on it and used it a bit, then left it on overnight "to settle". This morning it seems faster. Perhaps there is stuff going on after installation that slows it down at first?

Runs Fine

who else can is running ios 8 on an ipad 3?

interested to hear more thoughts before I upgrade

I'm not having many issues on my iPad 3. I don't use it that often but there are some. Like i was watching videos on safari in different tabs. when i would close one the audio was still going. I even closed the entire app (swiping up from multi task view) and the audio went for about 6-10 more seconds. but there aren't a lot of issues that i've noticed.

I have to express disappointment with iOS 8 on my iPad 2. This is the first time I have ever had any issues with upgrades to my iPad.

If I tell you that it's almost as factory condition i.e. 32 gig model, nothing kept on it, only ever downloaded 12 apps then you get the picture.

I only use it for web browsing, email, just the few apps etc. However, I am finding iOS 8 somewhat sluggish with apps like Safari not being very smooth, tabs taking time to load etc. etc.

Given my limited use of the iPad and the few things I do use it for are now a much poorer experience then I'm not impressed. :(

After updating to 8 my iPad 3 was terribly laggy and slow.

I let it chill for an evening assuming it was indexing and whatnot.

Then rebooted the next day and it runs much more smoothly.

Well from reading this thread it seems iOS8 is no worst then 7.1. If I plug the iPad 3 into a Mac, do I just select to search for updates in iTunes and then update from there?
And then leave it turned on overnight plugged into its charger, and then hard reset it with the power and home buttons the next day and Al, will be good :)

Is that the best way to do it?
