Grayscale mode - There are several new Accessibility options, including a new "Grayscale" mode that shifts the entire operating system into shades of black and white.

What they really need is a global 'night vision' mode, where everything is red. Astronomy apps typically offer this, but if you're out and need to switch apps, take a call or whatever, you get blinded by the white light and lose your night vision again.

Truth! This is a feature I've wished for for forever. I hate this. I almost never want to see a crippled mobile site. My iPhone has a great display and smooth zoom for a reason.
Chrome for iOS has had this feature for 2 years now. It's great that Safari will get this in a couple of months, I'm just saying that you could have saved yourself years of frustration.

You can already request desktop websites in chrome for iOS.

I thought everyone knew that.

Also in dolphin. I don't use safari at all, but I assumed there was already an option to do that.

DuckDuckGo search its terrible compared with Google search, i made a quick test with DuckDuckGo image xxx search and i was disappointed with the results,

Other than that those are great features can't wait to try it, and hope Apple will also bring OS X Yosemite "optional dark mode" feature to iOS 8 too:)

.
Android had a lot of features that users want but many of them didn't work so well. Name a message app that well integrated into the system like iMessage or a calling app like FaceTime? Don't even name Skype or Google Now or HangOut or such crappy apps.
Market share: omg, you still count those android junks (2/3 of android devices) in Walmart that cost less than $80/piece for market share? If you want to talk about market share, take those premium android devices with the last 2 versions of Android OS (Jelly Bean and KitKat) to compare. By the way, don't include those with Gingerbread or honeycomb...yeah what a shame!

You say hangouts is crap? What is exactly crappy about it? i message is fine but it is not cross platform like hangouts. With imessage I cannot text or video chat with a friend who has a android phone. But with hangouts you can do that. Messaging threads are neatly organized. Not trying to sell hangouts, but I think it is a bit unfair to dismiss hangouts as crap.

The most popular android phones are not the cheap ones. Htc one, galaxy s phones all cost the same as an iphone. iPhones are not luxurious or exclusive phones. I dont know people keep acting they are expensive. Not in the US anyway.

iOS definitely needs that new dark mode of Yosemite.

The only thing we know for certain in dark mode is it has a dark menu bar. iOS doesn't even have a menu bar...

----------

iOS 8 is truly going to be a great update. If only iOS 7 never came out and instead iOS 8 blended with iOS 6.

Yuck. If I never see Aqua again I'll be glad. It's time to move on.

Can anybody explain me what da hell is thing that everybody is talking about. Never heard this in my life.

EDIT: Nevermind, just find out that is an Internet search engine

I am jumping to the betas just so I can use DDG as the default. Great search engine.

The Dock is also darker. :) I hope the dark mode on OS X will cover more than just those two components. There are ample possibilities if Apple does this right. Obviously, they’d have to do a lot more on iOS to make a good dark theme.

It would be cool if iOS had a system-wide dark theme like BlackBerry 10, where white backgrounds become black and light-grey containers become dark grey. I am sure they would make a lot of people happy with this.

Something like this:

This is exactly what I want. I switched to windows phone because I can't stand the white of IOS 7. If IOS 8 gets a dark mode like the jailbreak app NightMode I'm definitely coming back.

Messages - Along with several improvements to group message management, there are now options to remove stored messages after a set period of time of 30 days or one year, which will allow users who have extensive iMessage threads to free up valuable space. When adding an image to a message, there's a new feature displaying recent photos for quick insertion.

When can I select batch messages and delete?

----------

Photos - The Photos app has received new organizational options, including two albums for "Recently Added" and "Recently Deleted." The Recently Deleted section temporarily displays images that have been removed from the app in case of accidental deletion. The date and time a photo was taken is also displayed.

Gosh.. better have the opt-out feature for recent delete. I don't wanna go through the delete process twice every time I wanna permanently delete a photo.. :(

Perhaps, but then I'd have to deal with the tremendous anxiety I used to have when using Google products.

Yes! I absolutely hate mobile versions of websites.

I would much rather zoom-in on a page, than lose important features and content.

The first thing I do when I come across a mobile page is scroll to the bottom looking for the 'desktop version' link. If I don't find one, I usually give up on the site altogether.

if there's one thing i hate is the damn "mobile sites".

Grey scale mode is a step into right direction, they should add a "black and white" mode also, that would fit really nicely with whole black iphone design

In LCDs like on the iphone it won't help with battery life but on phones that use other tech like AMOLED, it will help save battery life. Its a feature on the Samsung S5 called "ultra power saving mode"

http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/1...ltra-power-saving-mode-makes-10-last-24-hours

So in effect Apple has copied to "loo" of Samsungs power saving, but for Apple's screen tech it will make no difference what so ever. It's just a visual effect.

As Samsung uses AMOLED screens that does save battery doing this.

iMessage storage deletion is cool. My biggest issue with iOS right now is the ever encroaching "Other" space that takes up more space over time. I hope apple incorporates better management of this other than the current "restore from a backup" method.

  • I just want Photos to allow me to create folders and actually move photos to those folders and not have them be a 'shortcut' to the real photos folder.

  • I want to create inboxes in mail, so I can keep old emails BUT NOT CLOG UP MY INBOX with them.

Try it a few more times. I've been using DuckDuckGo for a while now and it's every bit as good as google. It's so good that google bought duck.com just incase people remember just the duck part and try it out. Getting nervous Google??

The one thing Apple should have done is to change the shutter release functionality of the iOS camera app back to the way it used to be.

It used to be that you could touch the "shutter release button" (or whatever you call it) without taking the picture, but to take the actual photo you released your finger.

This was much better than taking the photo by touching the button, because you're much less likely to cause shake if you take the picture by lifting your finger off the button, rather than by pressing it, which, in the heat of the moment, can often be a jarring jab rather than a touch.

The "Camera+" app still has the old, better, functionality (i.e., shutter release when taking your finger off the button), and that's why I still use that app - I never use Apple's camera app because it's so easy to cause shake when you jab the button to take the photo.

(The burst mode, which admittedly needs some sort of touch for the shutter release, could have a toggle option for that, or a second button to fire the burst.)

I've had (older) android phones, and can see the reason for simplifying the web with them, but there is NEVER any need for such a crippled site in place if the real thing on the iPhone. If it was simple and easy on my old 3G, why would you think a site would be less usable on current OS / hardware???
I've simply been using iCab whenever I need to purchase something off amazon - it'll be good to have natively usable websites again.

It's another example of Apple sticking it to Google: "yes, we know you want to deny the users. But we don't care. They can now get round your restrictions." Actually; it could be a good thing for companies like Google; I stopped using them for search due to these problems...

Really love the last few comments about how people 'don't get' grey-scale mode.

It is an accessibility feature. It's function is to make the device more accessible in exceptional circumstances, to a greater variety of users.
