Keeps getting better... and Uglier

iOS 8 is a very good update with many good things, but esthetically is still a step back. Now all fonts keeps getting thicker, instead of thinner. It looks really ugly. Yosemite looks so modern and clean and, if you go to its notification center you will notice that thinner fonts really makes it modern and beautiful, but iOS keep getting thicker. It looking like iOS 6 again. Such a shame its flagship product gets worse every time... :(

"Request Desktop Site" hasn't worked on any site I've tried it on so far. It would be nice to know exactly what it's trying to do. Is it changing the user agent string to look like it is the desktop Safari? That won't do anything for sites using various "responsive design" frameworks, like Bootstrap. You'd need to be able to specify the metrics of the screen you want.

Grayscale mode could be interesting if it allows a dramatic improvement in battery life.

why would it?
"Photons are photons" Zaphod Beeblebrox.

On a more serious point, the self-satified nature of the Apple crew these days, as reflected in their presentations is appalling.
We have X% of current users with the **** and they only have Y%.

Mean while ALL the world's cash machines still run 32bit XP.
9% on windows8 is more than ALL Apple's computers ever!! This is a pathetic self-decluded triumphalism. Apple's elite have made way too much money from their mobile devices and they must believe sun shines out of their arses.

  • I just want Photos to allow me to create folders and actually move photos to those folders and not have them be a 'shortcut' to the real photos folder.

This can already be done.
- Create a shared photo stream album.
- Add the pictures you want in that album.
- Once they're on there, delete them from your camera roll.

They'll be stored in the cloud, independent of your camera roll, and accessible across devices.

You don't have to add anyone else to the "shared" photo stream if you don't want to, but of course you have the option there.

I don't get why I see people saying bad things about the gray scale mode. It will significantly improve battery life when it's on. iOS caught up, and passed android. Good job Apple!

Why it's at least a year behind the others, it's as bad on mobile as it is in MacOSX.

Not true, safari is fastest browser on iOS, apple i last checked doesn't offer the javascript enhancements needed for 3rd parties like chrome.

Chrome on iOS is used be a lot less people than stock safari.

Chrome for iOS has had this feature for 2 years now. It's great that Safari will get this in a couple of months, I'm just saying that you could have saved yourself years of frustration.

I use Chrome when I have to, but it will be nice to have it integrated into Safari and iOS, for things like Keychain and links in email.

I dont get this greyscale mode use, why am i lacking something.
What is the purpose of grayscale mode? Is it easier on the eyes?

I find it pointless, what exactly is the point? aside from saving a tiny amount of ram?
So in effect Apple has copied to "loo" of Samsungs power saving, but for Apple's screen tech it will make no difference what so ever. It's just a visual effect.

As Samsung uses AMOLED screens that does save battery doing this.
It's an Accessibility feature. It's not for any of those things.
Really love the last few comments about how people 'don't get' grey-scale mode.

It is an accessibility feature. It's function is to make the device more accessible in exceptional circumstances, to a greater variety of users.
Exactly.

Hm, then don't update to the latest software? It's not like your current software will stop working.
A lot of people with iOS 6 on their iPhone 4 phones, for example, would disagree with that when they were left with a large security hole and now non-functional FaceTime that they could only fix by upgrading to the latest OS version.

Am I the only one that finds the current camera mode slecetion too slow? I mean there are like 6 diff modes now, its getting a little slow and cluttered.

Resizeable iPhone + Greyscale mode?

<theory type="conspiracy">

Conundrum: You've got a whole new class of device and you really want developers to start creating applications targetted to it, but you really don't want to announce it just yet. What do you do?

Well, I guess if you were going to introduce an iWatch with an e-Ink display (for the battery life) you could provide developers with a "resizeable iphone" option and just let people assume it was for the inevitable new bigger iPhone 6. You could also kind-of-off-hand-like-it's-no-big-deal sneak in a "greyscale" mode so developers would have a hint that maybe they should make their apps work in black and white.

</theory>

Neither did Apple invent the rectangular slate or slide to unlock or universal search but that didn't stop apple from suing.
OK, Apple must have patented those then. Did Samsung patent grayscale mode?

Honest question:

Can someone tell me why peoples are so happy/excited for greyscale mode?
I almost think that in a lot of cases they think that it's something other than what it is (like dark mode or something like that, which it really isn't).
