This is what I expect from what I call the new Apple. When I noticed that the hardware and software quality control going way, way, WAY down, I was irritated. But I don't feel that way anymore. I have accordingly adjusted my expectations WAY down. I still like Apple hardware and software the most, but I don't expect much from them anymore. Not angry. Not disappointed. Just...whatever. This is Apple now.

Some people might disagree that the quality has gone down. That's fine too. I won't argue with you. I am just saying that I have adjusted my expectations to a very low standard. Almost on neutral now. Not criticizing. Not attacking. Just...whatever.

Until now here are only people with bricked 128GB iPad Pros 9.7, right? Seems to be a special hardware part that causes the error or the firmware part not to be correctly flashed.

Every damn iOS update! Quality control has absolutely gone down the toilet over there! The part I don't get is how this managed to slip through 4 betas unnoticed.

I agree they should have spotted this but it's a bug in the latest firmware and wasn't present in the beta's. They've obviously made some sort of change from beta 4 to public release.

I've been an Apple fan and MR user for a good while now. However, I honestly cannot remember so can someone please tell me--did it used to be like this? Seems like every update these days has issues, whether widespread or not.

Yes. Always been. More news coverage now, more trolls to make it seem like a bigger deal than it is. Even the error messages seem to get repeated. Error 5x (usually 53).

What's different is it seems there are more incrimental upgrades than before, and it's opened up to a wider audience.

Not that Apple doesn't bear some of the blame, but why the mad rush to update? o_O

As a general rule: Always give it a day or two and let the guinea pigs try an update out first before you update your own device.

Even if no one "rushes" to update, eventually some will and you will ludicrously call them, "guinea pigs." Do you propose everyone to hold off awhile and update simultaneously? It just doesnt make any sense. I would say that consumers have no fault. Apple needs to do better job at it.

No issues here, 32GB wifi 9.7" pro. My guess is it is probably something related to a specific configuration.

Really a no brainer: This problem probably only affects a tiny insignificant fraction of users, as Apple will soon state... No need to get angry or loose faith in their software QA.

And meanwhile, they probably do what they do best: investigating the issue...

on a serious note though: I Don't ever install OS updates on release. I hold back for a couple of days and look for people having problems. I am also a Windows user. I know what I am talking about. Learned this the hard way... Apple is the new Microsoft. Takes time getting used to, but let's be honest here for minute.

And please nobody in this thread use the terminology of "rock stable" to describe either IOS or OSX anymore ... Tandem NonStop or OpenVMS may be sorta, but no Apple or Microsoft operating system is anywhere close to that analogy...

No problem here on 256GB cellular version. Also worked fine on iPhone 6+. No problems with OSX and iTunes updates on iMac either.

Negative...my 9.7" Pro 256gb SG bricked. Chatted with Apple Support for 2 hours and now have an appointment tomorrow to get it swapped

This annoys me, Apple try to be green, and cause they can't QA thier software these days, they are going to deal with this software issue by replacing units . So environmentally irresponsible . These units just need a software update.

And I wake up to this...

I think this will be the first iOS update I don't install immediately. The iPad Pro is an integral part of my workflow as a teacher and I can't risk having anything happen to it, much less over a very minor patch.

Think I will check back over the weekend and see how the situation unfolds.
