I don't think it works with chrome. But you could do that with Safari.

That's what was odd. I tested twice with Chrome opened on MacBook, running the latest GA Yosemite and iOS 9 beta 2 on iPad. Safari was closed on MacBook. I didn't think that would work.

Three OS later, how do I use the shift key? Flawed by design
Look at the keyboard (if for some reason you can't tell the difference in color when it comes to the shift key) as the keys themselves change their case and you'd know exactly what case you are in.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the ring switch anymore? In beta 1, I had the option to make that the ring/silent switch or the screen orientation lock but now it seems like that switch is only screen orientation. In fact, screen orientation is no longer in my Control Center.

What device?

iPhone 6.
Interesting. It sounds like they removed that option for iPhones but at the same time your last selection got stuck there instead of going back to the default one for using the switch for silent/ringer purposes.

And those people don't understand how the web works. They may want no ads but they'd be crying when Google, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Mac Rumors and the majority of the web simply went away from lack of revenue.

Or perhaps some people can't think of any other way to pay for these services.

Apple Watch app - The Apple Watch app has a new, simpler name, having been renamed to "Watch."

But can I delete it?

It would appear mail search has been updated in beta 2, also. There are now options when searching to filter results based on from, subject, etc...

That's only if the app stores its data on iCloud. Many of them still don't.

By the way, I don't see where I came to a conclusion. I was careful in saying "I think", ergo, I can be wrong.

When the app uses iCloud to store Documents and Data/use iCloud Drive (same thing in this sense) then that data is accessible by all devices on that account. This has to be enabled by developers but doesn't mean the users data for that app doesn't get backed up if it isn't.

If the app hasn't been designed/updated to use iCloud in the above ways, then iCloud just backs up any data that isn't present when the app is first installed every day (unless you turn off the switches for individual apps in "Manage Storage") but this is only accessible if you restore the backup in question. Which I'm assuming is how this new feature functions.

Either way your personal data is safe, just like an iTunes backup.

People write off iCloud without understanding it way too often. This isn't aimed at you, just a general comment about people's attitude towards it. Apple shot themselves in the foot when the iOS 6 setup screen said that it only backed up "the important stuff", also known as personal app data. Most people (myself included) took it the other way.

I help to restore about 30 backups a day for other people (can you guess where I work yet?) and my own skepticism has been put to bed by seeing it in action literally thousands of times. I've actually only ever seen an iTunes restore fail!

Can anybody confirm if the battery issue is resolved in this second beta? Soon after installing the first beta I reverted back to iOS 8 due to the horrible battery life even when battery save mode.

No real confirmation can be had for at least a few days.

It only takes a few hours if that, that beta 1 was a battery eater! Can't remember a beta that was so horrible on battery life. A full charge would not last 8 hours even on power reserve mode with very little actual phone use.

Well I just installed beta 2 for testing again. Lets see how it goes hope they at least got the battery drain issue squared away.

It really doesn't. Often enough battery usage will be much worse right after an update, while for some it might be great at first. It can be different a day or two later. People sure can make an observation based on the first few hours, but it doesn't mean the observation will really hold up nor that it would apply to many others. It would take more people observing it over at least a slightly longer period of time (at least a few days) to make a more meaningful call as to what it's like for most people most of the time (vs. for a few people here and there at one point in time after a few hours of using something, often in one place with just WiFi or just LTE or something like that).

Yes, I agree with you. And I totally misunderstood how the backup is done. Now that I remember, when I restored from iCloud backup, I got iCloud data even from apps that didn't support it.

But in this case, there are some constraints. What if the app is more than the the allowed limit for cellular upload/download? What if you don't have the latest backup? What if you never backed up to iCloud? Does it back up to iCloud automatically? These are just some of the things to consider. While I don't doubt Apple has a good answer to all of them, I do have qualms about this option. If it indeed backs up everything, then I'll be happy to turn this option on.

100% fixed for me. I had to remove the first beta as it ate my battery like nuts. So far I've had beta 2 installed since around 11am and it is at least as good as 8.4 but actually seems better so far.

No real confirmation can be had for at least a few days.

With the way beta 1 ate battery life it only takes a couple of hours to see if beta 2 is better, and it is by far.

Nope. It doesn't. It works just like a "Restore from iCloud" backup... redownloads all your apps but you have to log in again fresh, no saved games, etc.
Except that's not how iCloud backups work. Which is it really?

It might be better in your case in a few hours but that doesn't mean it will hold up that way over a few days or that it's like that for most others. That's where the more meaningful data would really be.
