I used to love jail breaking but with all the malware and crap in the last few jailbreaks I steer clear now. It's not worth it

Some of that can be avoided by taking the time to harden the security on the device (with the new access you have) after you jailbreak it. Most (very few) actually do this as it requires command line skills, as well as an understanding of the BSD underpinnings.

I don't jailbreak anymore, but I did like that level of access in the past.

I wish those guys one day will figure out how to downgrade iOS.

Is it possible via jailbreak to substantially improve performance on old devices? May be disable animations or disable some background services or something like that?

I'm not aware of any.

I believe he's referring to one of the recent jailbreaks which the Chinese version had malware within one of the installed apps. There have also been a number of exploits recently that take advantage of people that have jailbroken their phones and the lessened security on such devices to install whatever they like.

You've been able to downgrade as long as jailbreaks have been around. One of the things you can do (or should be doing) with a jailbroken phone is save your SHSH blobs. This allows downgrading to previous OS' even after Apple has stopped signing them.

I still jailbreak for the following tweaks

Disturb please - allows me to schedule actual days for the native do not disturb application

Bytafont - Change font

Close all - Allows you to press one button and close all applications running

Instagram hack - allows me to download pictures from Instagram

Photoalbums plus - move pictures from camera roll to specific folders vs copy

With limited tweaks my phone remains stable and I don't worry about data being stolen no more than I do when I slide my debit card to buy gas or use it at store who days later announce their servers were hacked and credit card and info was compromised.

Of course it's legal. My carrier gives me a set amount of data a month, after that they throttle to low speeds, but you can still use the Internet. However, after throttling, they don't allow tethering, so you can only use that on the iPhone. MiWi and other get rid of that limitation.
Ok I'm confused. If they don't allow it how is it legal? Are you saying its a limitation that wouldn't stand up in court if challenged?

Why do you provide free publicity to these dangerous criminals? Remember, hacking opens the door to security breaches and put us all in a risky situation. I'm not sure who pays you for these postings. Shouldn't Apple sue these people instead?

It's not possible to downgrade with SHSH blobs as far as I know. It was possible before, but you can't do it now. Apple improved their security.

People still jailbreak?
If they didn't, they wouldn't bother with releasing a Jailbreak tool every so often.

I jailbreak to use iBlacklist to block calls from even reaching voicemail unlike the built in blocker.
I jailbreak to block ads in my browser as well as in all free apps and especially, the ones that force you to view an ad before using the app.
I also jailbreak to be able to tether as much as I like. I don't abuse it but I want to be able to use it since I have unlimited data.
3G Unrestrictor also allows me to get past Apples 150GB download restriction.
I also use iTunes Radio unlimited skips. Nothing like being able to skip as many songs as I want.
I use something called Aria which allows me to change the look and way that the music app lists songs and artists.

The list goes on and on.
