I think it's a ratrace. Till the next update. I don't jealbrake anymore. It helped me to look at the possibilities of iOS and no more focussing on the impossibilities.

Reading the comments here are depressing. Coming from Android the tweaks everybody are listing are weak compared to what you can do on a locked down Android phone.
I will keep my iPhone 6s stock.

Tempted but Apple really dropped the mic when they allowed ad-blockers in iOS 9. That was one of my main reasons to JB.

My others are background YouTube audio and Activator which is so so useful, but are they worth it? Hmmm, decisions decisions...

So? I don't understand this whole Android comparison.

What is it that you want to do with your iOS device that isn't "weak"?

So did someone get $1 million for this?

Nope. From the zerodium website:
ZERODIUM will pay out one million U.S. dollars ($1,000,000.00) to each individual or team who creates and submits to ZERODIUM an exclusive, browser-based, and untethered jailbreak for the latest Apple iOS 9 operating system and devices.

From the article:
The jailbreak tool is currently available for Windows only, but an OS X version will likely be available for Mac users in the future.

This is not a browser-based jailbreak. "Untethered" in this context means that the jailbreak is persistent between device reboots, not that it can be installed directly onto the phone without, well, "tethering" it to a PC. "Tethered" jailbreaks need to be reapplied if you reboot your device.

What argument? I was stating facts. Some people jailbreak their phones to do specific things, others do it to pirate. That's it. Not following your point, other than you making yourself feel better.

Well, when you find relevant and interesting topics to discuss that regard jailbreaking instead of labeling people, then feel free to share.

Of course it's legal. My carrier gives me a set amount of data a month, after that they throttle to low speeds, but you can still use the Internet. However, after throttling, they don't allow tethering, so you can only use that on the iPhone. MiWi and other get rid of that limitation.

Pretty sure this is the reason that carriers are pushing people off unlimited or charging more for it (Verizon). Even if you can get away with it, it's not "fair practice". Some people are consuming teribites this way, which costs carries money. Which then drives up the rates for everyone.

If they didn't, they wouldn't bother with releasing a Jailbreak tool every so often.

I jailbreak to use iBlacklist to block calls from even reaching voicemail unlike the built in blocker.
I jailbreak to block ads in my browser as well as in all free apps and especially, the ones that force you to view an ad before using the app.
I also jailbreak to be able to tether as much as I like. I don't abuse it but I want to be able to use it since I have unlimited data.
3G Unrestrictor also allows me to get past Apples 150GB download restriction.
I also use iTunes Radio unlimited skips. Nothing like being able to skip as many songs as I want.
I use something called Aria which allows me to change the look and way that the music app lists songs and artists.

The list goes on and on.
Okay, finally somebody posts a list of functions worth the bother and risk of jail breaking for. I wish I'd had something like iBlacklist back when I was going through a messy breakup with a friend who is one of those "it's everyone else's fault but mine" types. And the type to call and text endlessly to complain about all the wrongs people have done her and then turn against me when I am too busy to deal with her problems.

Apple really needs to do something about the utter lameness of the call and message blocking feature because it lets asshats and drama queens think they've gotten through and you're getting their messages. It's not enough in some situations for me to simply not hear from these people. I want them to know they're thrown over the fence and locked out, not merely being ignored.

I think it's helped all of us that jail breakers have pushed the limits so much. Apple is constantly forced to see what their customers find lacking and try to implement their own solutions within their walled garden.

And let's not forget the main reason most people jaikbreak: so they can pirate paid apps

I wouldn't say that is necessarily true anymore since you can now pirate paid apps without the need to jailbreak.

I still jailbreak - granted not for much anymore, I was never much of a themer but I like some of the added functionality certain tweaks can bring. e.g YouTube backgrounder and TinyBar.

Lots of scaremongering in this thread regarding hacks etc... personally I've never come across anyone or read any personal accounts of someone's privacy being tampered due to jailbreaking and I've been jailbreaking since the iPhone 4.

Wow, I've had my phones j-broken for years now and haven't had any issue of security breaches or anything. No malware or nothing. I just get a couple of tweaks and call it a day.

Never the less, it's only a windows release as of now, not one for Mac. I'll try to hold out.

That wasn't my question. I asked if it was legal or not, not whether the carrier policy is right in the first place.

It's not legal. If they catch you doing it, they will remove your tethering ability. Why? Because you have idiots who abuse the system and use it for their home internet and consume hundreds on gigabytes per month.

You can get background audio with tubex.

I never could understand how can people use so much data in a month. The only way I can think of is if they've turned off the cable and use their unlimited data as the only vehicle for internet. I jailbreak and use the tethering tweak but I only average 11Gigs a month. I guess the only time I do it is at work on my home computer to go to sites that the gov't doesn't allow and in hotels to bypass their slow connections.

I honestly don't get it, at this point in time. With all of the hacks, exploits, etc. out there, and the fact that Android software and hardware has evolved to the point where it's a viable option for someone who wants a higher level of customization.

I also install software from outside of the Mac App Store, and even from homebrew(!). Why shouldn't I do the same on iOS? Why is f.lux dangerous on the iPhone, but not on OS X?

As long as there are apps that cost money, people will jailbreak to pirate.

And please, some of you may claim that you jailbreak to do something specific. Yes good for you. People use bittorrent to download linux too. Doesn't negate the many other people that use the method for piracy.

Good for you. Doesn't change the fact that there are other people than you who jailbreak to pirate.
Again, people also use bittorrent to download Linux. Nuff said.

You're not just stating facts. You're pushing a narrative that centers around pirating. It's totally okay to do that. That's your prerogative. Just own it. Don't half ass it with "People do regular stuff, but..." Context makes it pretty obvious your focus is the pirating aspect.
