Agreed.

You know, I'm hoping that Apple at least allows the previous overlay behavior to be an option. The dim instead of clouded fuzz is awful.

Knowing Apple, they will likely give no choice to us in the matter.

In every other way though, beta 5 on my iPad 3 is an excellent improvement.

Keyboard lag on my registered ipad2 is worse than ever. Tonight, for first time, keyboard is typing WRONG letters - I typed an e, and it displayed a g. Might seem petty, but I was trying to type a password to do a restore. I have submitted a bug report. I will probably go back to beta4.

It's mostly those with the 3rd gen. The 3rd gen has reduced transparency layers.

Yes, I see it on the keyboard but that's really about it.

Everything else seems the same across the board in first glance buts less then a day and the mini (I know it's not the 3) isn't the device I use all the time

This iPad 3 multitouch bug is a killer. I really use the 5 to close guest urge a lot. It has crashed my iPad 3 4 times in the past 2 hours.

Nothing but the wallpaper shows back up and sometimes that is blurred. Siri worked once. Otherwise it has been a reset via home and wake/sleep.

I turned gestures off and hope that keeps me from rebooting all the time. But it is a PITA.

Just so you're aware, this isn't happening on my iPad 3 at all. The gesture is smoothly animated now and works as expected every time.

Did you try Reset all settings?

Running beta 5 on the mini and it is very smooth for me. Still a couple of apps not working and transparency has been removed from the keyboard but everything else still has it including NC, CC and dock.
Multitasking gestures also work fine. For those with issues - have you tried disabling Control Centre in Apps?

A few people saying the iPad beta is lagging behind iPhone development but even though they share the same beta version, the iPad beta was released a cycle later than iPhone so it stands to reason that things will not be as well refined on the iPad beta at this time. It will catch up.

Well, at least for now that seems to have stopped it. I'll let you know if it crashes again but so far so good.

Transparency/Blur effect is still messed up. No Blur.

Well, Apple did this on purpose, I think (and that scares me...)

But I have a little hope that this was a mistake. And this is why I have that hope:
  • Beta 5 was released at a strange date, completely out of the row and unexpectedly.
  • There is no mention of removed blur effects on A5/A5X devices in the changelog (although the lack of blur on iPhone 4 is mentioned).
  • There is REALLY no performance issue on iPad 2 (and probably iPad mini) with Beta 4 and blurs.
  • It would be very strange if Apple removed visual effects on devices they are still selling (e.g. iPad mini)
  • iPod touch 5th gen does get these effects with an A5 processor.

This has been my afternoon lol

This is my experience:

- iPad 2 and 3 lost transparency
- Compared to the iPhone 4 (at least on beta 1/2) the dock has transparency
- Compared to the iPod touch 5th gen, battery life is not better
- 5 finger pinching to home screen caused my device to crash, lock screen was blank except for a blurred wallpaper
- Keyboard is still just as fast as iOS 6

The way I see it, and some of you might say "duh," is that apple is just putting down a two and one generation old devices to sell more new ones.

Same here. Really annoying. But definitely something that will get fixed in the next beta.

In terms of speed it's something like iPhone 5 with beta 2. Therfor I hope there is still space for improvement.

You learned to take a screen shot? Neat.
Haha. I took not any ordinary screenshot. If you looked closely, the calendar icon was replaced with the icon from Flow free game, which is a kind of a bug. However, taping on calendar and then returning to the home screen fixed it.

Is it your Calendars icon? That's the only odd thing I'm noticing..

Yes, see the above comment.

Did that happened when you changed from landscape to portrait?

I have felling Apple just rushed on this beta, but I don't know why.

Blur effect is kept on both iPad Mini and iPhone 4S... I don't know iPod Touch yet, since my father keep it all the time. The only devices lost blur effect are iPad 3 and iPad 2. Since iPad 2 share exactly same hardware with iPad Mini I don't know why the blur effect bing disabled on iPad.

i believe it did however it will stay stuck until i do a reboot and it will happen again. My dock seems to disappear on a regular basis regardless of portrait or landscape.

Yea... Something isn't right with is beta... Never had these kind of problem with previous beta. I don't know... I do hope Apple takes sometime for next beta.

Pinch to close apps completely freezes my ipad too which is disappointing because I use that a lot, never use the home button normally, but I have had to disable multitasking gestures.

Also, as I mentioned, I usually solely use gestures to navigate my ipad, never use the home button, but with ios, that doesn't seem to be 100% possible. If you open newsstand then there is no way out without using the home button

I confirm pinch to close issue. When i do that I only see the wallpaper and nothing else. I had to reboot after that. BTW this bug was there in beta 2, 3 and it was fixed in beta 4.

What a pain. Now I have disabled the gestures completely so that I don't have to restore.

i have the 3rd gen ipad and well its running smoother than iOS 6.1.3 did on my ipad and well there has been a hiccup here and there but i cant complain its running smooth as silk for me

Apple removing and adding things is all part of the beta process.

Early builds of other iOS betas had things that disappeared like fall back to wifi, and what I vaguely remember to be an unusual pop in no animation on dialogs that came in.

What I am HOPING is that the disabled transparency people are seeing is part of internal regression testing to make sure things are fast and stable for DEVELOPERS who need a stable enough environment to test things. Another possibility is that the increased load of the extra transparency may make a bigger difference on older devices when the multitasking abilities get enabled on new devices. I'd imagine that while the transparency may have worked fine, it could have caused random spurts of stuttering when applications run their new tasks that they'll be able to do in the background.

Or it could just be able trying to force everyone into newer devices. I don't think that's it though.

Logically, considering people have complained about decrease in performance in day to day usage after the launch of a new OS, they may be making changes that will help it not be the case when this launches. Honestly though, I could see that it being a bug that may have been introduced in newer builds that makes newer builds more unstable when the transparency is enabled.

All speculation on my part.

So, I just had iOS 7 put on my iPad 2. I've had it on my phone since the beginning and it's gotten progressively better, with very few bugs.
The iPad 2 more than makes up for it.
First, none of my games that were HD would load. They were in a perpetual state of waiting. Other apps that I had this issue with, I was able to go to the App Store and redownload the apps from there. The HD game apps didn't even show up anywhere in my purchased apps, nor did they show up in the store. For about an hour, they flat out didn't exist. Then suddenly, they started loading.
Several times, I got a portrait orientation of the apps while I was on landscape. I had icons overlapping each other and folders were randomly showing as empty until I clicked on them.
My goodness, what a ride! Finally, except for the whole crashing with the five fingers issue, it seems like things have leveled out.
My thought is that iOS 7 is kind of optimized for the iPhone. All the goodies and effort are going into the phone, which is a shame. I love my iPad and want it to be high quality. Right now, it feels like a much earlier beta than my phone.
Like I said, this whole beta thing is one hell of a ride, bit over all, I think it's pretty exciting to see all the changes.

I'm new here. My iPad 3 is on iOS 7 beta 5 now. The hang on wallpaper only happens when I open the multitask bar. So if I do not open the multitask bar, I can pinch to close without any problem.
Beta 5 is much more stable although the transparency is much reduced.
Just my two cents.

I cannot really understand that nobody rages about that awful grey control center background. :D It's readable, but it looks BAD.
And now that I heard iPad mini does get these effects, I start to really doubt the quality of latest beta.
