(I posted about the following in another thread last night but nobody really replied to the issue I was raising.)
When you go to control centre to alter the brightness, it does that dimming overlay over everything else on the screen. So then when you alter brightness, you are using the dimmed contents of the display as a reference for the current brightness.
I tried altering brightness last nght when I was sitting in lounge with just a lamp on, so the room was quite dark and my iPad was at full brightness and was hurting my eyes. So I opened control centre, adjusted it to something that was comfortble on my eyes, swiped control centre away, and realised that when the dimming effect overlay went away, the screen was still far too bright.
