iPhone is far superior to Android, for my needs and a growing number of people, particularly in the US. Apple owns the high end market, which is all they care about.

Are you sure that is all they care about?

Why was Apple trying to get into India, and trying to bring down prices by assembling the iPhone SE locally?

The strategy will likely expand to lower end markets like India, but really hasn’t yet. The SE is a tiny part of iPhone sales and hasn’t been updated in years. I’d like to see them expand the product like and make more money on services.

I think they will, but they haven’t focused on the lower end market...yet.

Unless you own stocks. iPhone is far superior to Android, for my needs and a growing number of people, particularly in the US. Apple owns the high end market, which is all they care about.

Care to elaborate why iPhone is far superior to Android, because simply i failed to see that is the case. I have both iPhone and Android phone (Huawei, Xiaomi, Motorola, Smartisan, Google Nexus etc), I can seems see the advantage of iPhone, rather than the high price tag. There are so many more people using Android and the number is growing everyday.

Yes, Apple owns the high end market. High end market is also the dying market. As mid-range phones becoming more reliable and speedy, more and more people will opt for mid-range phones more than people opt for high end phone. You see this with PC market, high end PC only make tiny share of PC market share while overall PC market are in mid-range PCs.

This would occur with smartphone market as well. As iPhone becomes more and more expensive, lesser and lesser people will opt for iPhone.

Show me evidence the high end market is dying. The iPhone X is the most expensive mass produced smartphone ever sold and it was the best selling iPhone in Apple’s lineup every week since release.

Apple isn’t losing share...it’s gaining. If any high end market is dying, it’s the high end Android market. The iPhone sales are strong and the iPhone revenues are even stronger. People are willing to pay even MORE to have iPhones, evidenced by a nearly $800 ASP. These are facts...numbers prove the iPhone dominance in revenue, unit sales, profit, and customer satisfaction.

Apple will not compete with lower tire phone maker, it is not interest of Apple doing. Apple has never made budget devices, never. And Apple product is getting more pricier than ever before.

Apple will not be successful in India or any developing country, the price simply to high. Apple should focus what they good at and leave rest of the market to competitor, because in the end of day, Apple only cares about profits. Lower tire phone does not make the profits Apple wants to see.

The thread you’re replying to is about an article that shows exactly the opposite, at least in the US.

Doing pretty damn well in China, lol.

1. Better security, this is debatable. There are several malware appeared on App Store.
2. Better mobile silicon. Maybe true, but it is not really obvious for most regular users.
3. Better support. Depends where are you located. My city in China has no official Apple Support while my city in Canada has Apple Store. I went to McMaster university at City of Hamilton with no Apple Store. Better support is really depends on region. And Apple charges tons for their repairs anyway. Most people would turns to third party repairs.
4. Better resale. That is true. Unless you are changing phone every year, resale value makes no difference. Most people keep their phone until it last minutes.
5. Better life span. That is not true. I have Nexus 6 still going strong and my iPhone 6S is crappying with iOS 11.
6. Android has just much apps as iOS. Apps quality is just as good as iOS counterparts.

Even though I am a Note8 user and really don't care for iOS, I don't see a bright future in the consumer market for Android in the United States. What does Android give you that iOS doesn't for most people -- especially if Apple has offerings for the non-wealthy or enthusiast crowd?

I only see Android's marketshare going down in the United States. It effectively is a two horse race: Apple and Samsung. Pixel won't ever be on the radar of your average consumers. And I wouldn't bet on Samsung. I say this, again, as a person who loves his Note8. LG is pretty much done. Motorola doesn't really have an impact on the market. The vendors to look at are the up and coming Chinese vendors. But again, there isn't much there to really tickle the interest of most consumers. Especially given what is going against them - carrier support (and promotion!) and stores to buy their stuff in.

Especially if you look at the young people - they want iOS/Apple. They don't really want Android. Android is equated with junk.

And remember, I'm someone who doesn't like iOS :)

No they are not. You are only look at numbers. I have been in China several times and I went back this May. Android is everywhere and iPhone are just there. I won't say 20% vs 80% market share is good, let alone with 2% drop in market share.

Lol, so basically all true and the one you questioned was based on your anecdotal experience with a Nexus.

That is because there is something called carrier subsidy and Apple Update Program. People are just taking loan from carrier or Apple.

As US carriers are moving away from subsidy model, you will see drop in high end segment.

iPhone us not exactly affordable for most people.

No. All debatable. Not exactly means true .

So the numbers aren’t true and your anecdotal trips to China are confirmation that iPhone isn’t doing well? LOL...this is gold.

Apple will do like $60B in sales in China alone this year.

Yes. 20% market share is nor exactly good. If you take look at Xiaomi and Huawei, these brands are striving in China. You see more of Xiaomi and Huawei phone than iPhone.

I give you a number. Out of 20 relatives that I visited during my trip, 0 relative owns iPhone. Out of 50 people I had see, 5 has iPhone. This is just small sample, but if you actually live in China for a while, you will know iPhone is not doing as well as you thought of.

They don’t have to be affordable to most people. You said yourself, they are only focused on the high end.

And high end market is shrinking one.

iOS Grew U.S. Market Share This Spring Thanks to 'Unprecedented Depth' of Price Options as Android 'Felt the Heat'

There appears to be a lot of wishful thinking and ignoring facts going on, but that’s ok. Your beliefs are your beliefs.

Nearly every US carrier has some sort of iPhone 8 deal. They're practically giving it away.

China has an ever growing middle class, so it makes sense that they'd be into the iPhone X, and have them as even more viable options as ever (although I hope they don't have to pay too much in import tariffs! I recall a couple decades ago, things like Ralph Lauren polo shirts were more expensive because of such).

Which article are you commenting on? This article says that iOS share in China dropped by 2%.

Well this is good and it just shows that Tim Cook knows exactly what he’s doing for all those who who complain about there being too many iPhones in the lineup. Having so many iPhones at different price points is the way you compete in a market oversaturated with android devices.

China seem to be blowing hot and cold with Apple at the moment.

Why is iOS on life support with only 8% in Spain? Tim Cook need to focus more on Spain and less elsewhere.

Too much siestas = bad economy 2 buy iPhones. They have a king? It’s that true? Weird
