Perhaps the OP said that Apple has to make a search engine. Let's answer what is written not what you think is written

A search engine doesn't have to be just like google or bing to be a search engine. Siri is a search engine with access to a limited number of databases.

Funny, one of my websites that get's over 110.000 visitors a month shows something very different:

Windows
84.64%

Macintosh
9.05%

(not set)
2.30%

Linux
1.93%

iPhone
0.89%

Android
0.67%

iPad
0.45%

iPod
0.07%

And this is a website that is a Mac centric as can be.. hah. Oh well, just one website. Still funny to see it is so different. Makes me wonder about Mac Rumor stats.

no it is actually pretty in line with the real stats (and our internal numbers) - if you see the numbers from the site

OSX is 6.94% share with windows 91.86%

http://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=8&qpcustomd=0

on mobile

TOTAL mobile is 5.51%

http://www.netmarketshare.com/report.aspx?qprid=61

so iOS (combined) is 60% (MAX) of 5.51 - if you see the numbers mobile usage is on the way down

what it shows (on your numbers and theirs) is that Apple has limited say on Internet trends

1. It's not my graph
2. Unless those versions are lumped into Other with Windows Phone, there is no statistically significant web browsing occurring on them

You're welcome to put your blinders back on now, if it will make you feel better...

Why is there even a specific version of Android listed ? Your link does not break down iOS by version, only by device. Why break down Android by version ? Why is 2.2 at 7.21% while only being 45.3% of Android devices the only thing registering ?

Especially considering the original graph presented here shows Android having much more than 7.21%...

Makes me question your graph more than anything. Feel free to find a more credible break down. Until then, while I don't expect Android to over take iOS for browsing statistics based on what I said earlier (smaller installed base due to less time on market and less variety of device types with close to no PMPs and low tablet sales), I do think your graph is not quite representative of the reality that's out there...

It's a blog that probably 10 people read. I'm not registering for Android forums trying to put its users "in place". Seriously, you're upset, and I understand, but don't take it out on me.

Don't assume I meant anything other then what I said. Android users will often suggest to other Android users that they effectively turn their smartphones into dumbphones to save battery life. It's not comparable to iOS or Oletros' little Apple link, because it's pretty well known that iOS devices don't suffer as bad as battery life as Android devices. Simple and plain.

Please don't perpetuate the myth that I'm upset. I'm not. And I'm certainly not taking anything out on you Mr. Paranoid LOL

And keep telling yourself that iOS users don't say the same thing as Android users. As I am all Apple and only use iOS - I can say with 100 percent accuracy that you're deluded or flat out lying.

----------

A search engine doesn't have to be just like google or bing to be a search engine. Siri is a search engine with access to a limited number of databases.

Actually I don't think so.

I think Siri is considered a front end which is integrated with search engines to provide data.

It's not the same thing.

Again, I never said any of what you're telling me I said. Stop putting words in my mouth. I "think" your upset because your just spewing irrelevant stuff that no one mentioned. I apologize if I mistook your irrelevant spewing as a sign of being uspet...

So tell me again why anyone really cares about this? Bragging rights? Or are some people here getting paid per Android or iOS hits?

Same reason we might care about Samsung share. We have even less reason to care about that, yet tech news is tech news. Apparently, we have a large group of people here who are tech-agnostic, or are lovers equally of all tech.

If you don't think Apple's numbers are germane to the discourse going on around Apple-centric sites, then I can't imagine how a case can be made for reporting on Samsung-related news.

A search engine doesn't have to be just like google or bing to be a search engine. Siri is a search engine with access to a limited number of databases.

Well, I think about Siri more like an assistant that uses some databases to retrieve results, not as a search engine per se.

Google or Bing don't need any external "database" to allow searches, Siri needs some databases to provide results.

What was irrelevant? You stated "You'll often here androids suggest to other users to turn off 4G, Bluetooth, Wifi, Auto sync, remove widgets, lower brightness, uninstall apps and disable GPS to save battery. In other words, turn your phone into a dumphone. "

I replied, "Sorry - as opposed to what you read on these forums to extend the iPhone battery?

Let's face it - all smart phones are pretty poor in the battery department. Period."

And then you proceeded to try discredit my statement. When it was pointed out that you were wrong - you then tell me I'm spewing irrelevancy. I think you're the one that needs to relax and stop being dramatic.

It's ok to admit that maybe you spoke out of turn or that you were even wrong. Many people would respect you more for it.

As I said - ALL smartphones have pretty poor battery life - especially with any REAL use. I really don't think you can argue that point.

I agree with you LTD (shocked). I was being sarcastic in my post :)

What's irrelevant is you talking about iOS when my response was an agreement to someone else talking about android:

user: android has poor battery life
me: yeah you're right
you: ios does too!

it was irrelevant. We weren't talking about iOS, you interjected yourself into the conversation, called me a few names for good measure, misstated the purpose of my blog, swore you are not upset and now you're still talking about it. Let it go, and move on buddy.

What the hell is "Others" ?
Pocket Netscape Navigator? :D
Windows Phone 7, Windows Mobile 6.5, webOS, maybe QNX (the next-generation OS from Research In Motion) if they're recording that separately from BlackBerry OS.

There are some obscure ones like Samsung's Bada OS and Qualcomm's BREW, plus some game console OSes (PlayStation, Wii).

Do you think Siri accesses Google to find results from Yelp? That's silly.

Well, I think about Siri more like an assistant that uses some databases to retrieve results, not as a search engine per se.

This is kind of like the "iPad is not a computer" arguments. It's a search engine. It is just limited in scope.

search engine
Noun:
A program for the retrieval of data, files, or documents from a database or network, esp. the Internet.

Google or Bing don't need any external "database" to allow searches, Siri needs some databases to provide results.

Of course they do. Google needs to search the Yelp database to provide results from Yelp just as Siri does.

Thanks - but I think I'll be done with the subject when I feel like being done with it - not when you tell me to. If you don't want to continue discussing it - feel free to stop posting.

My comment was completely relevant because the topic of OSes/Battery life came up. Now maybe you want to argue that the OP was irrelevant since the topic was mobile web traffic and has nothing to do battery life. And since you tacked on your reply to that - you were perpetuating the irrelevancy. That makes you a hypocrite. But I don't expect you to admit that either ;)

And I called you ONE name. Mr. Paranoid. I didn't call you a few good names. One. One name. LOL. But I expect nothing less than exaggeration from you since you still believe iPhone users on this forum haven't made similar suggestions to prolong battery life.

Cheers!

Again - I don't think so - and neither would the 1000+ consultants who work for the IT company I'm at either. But I'm not going to argue the point because it's really not important anyway and not germane to the topic as well.

So my driver's license says "Drama Queen"? That wasn't a name? So when you say "One. One name. LOL." you thought my actual name was Drama Queen? Ok, if you are silly enough to believe that, that's fair. Like I said, when you show signs of being upset, I can't help but think you are. Just making the observation, buddy. You like to bicker with me in every thread I post in. Maybe your bored, maybe you're trying to get through your day at work, or maybe you just like following me around, but it's transparent.

Secondly, the post that I responded to was OT because the poster I agreed with said the reason he thinks the numbers in the OP are so is because of the poor battery life of Android devices when they use their browsers or anything that requires any type of CPU/resource usage. I agreed with him. No more, no less. You then decided to turn it into an iOS vs Android discussion, which is not what it was.

You can say I exaggerated, you can say I'm a hypocrite, but the facts speak for themselves, sir.

Ahh yes. Two names. My mistake, "buddy." See - I can admit when I'm wrong.

As for the rest of your assertions - they are ridiculous. To even suggest that I follow you around is further indication you my be paranoid. I post in many current news threads on this forum. The fact that you also do and/or the fact that I reply to you is complete coincidence only augmented by the simple fact that many times I think differently (NO pun intended) than you.

I call it like I see it. Glad you can admit you were wrong, though. When you prove me wrong, I'll reciprocate.

They do, supposedly. Tough to get accurate market share measurements when companies only report what they shipped, not actually sold. These Web usage stats put a large doubt into Android market share numbers for me.

you also have to factor in all the low end android handsets that don't have the capacity to browse the web in a way that is not aggravating to the user.

Well since you're either too lazy to look yourself and/or you are in complete denial and/or you have never been to the IOS5/iPhone part of this site here are a few links (very recent) which have people telling others all of the things they should do to get better battery life.

No - actually - you made if far more complex. Simple would have been either you agreeing outright or checking on your own to see if I was right.

You didn't want simple. You just wanted to be right.

 seriously, bro, just stop. this crap should have been done, but you continue to talk about it. it doesn't make sense.

you make the statement that ios has it just as bad, and then i'm expected to go search to prove your statement right? spare me. stop being dramatic, and take the apology and keep quiet. you sound like some angry little kid.

One link and a comment or two. That's all I am going to post and then I'm done because you're ridiculous and everyone reading this thread can now see it in black and white. I was never dramatic. And unlike my apology which was freely and sincerely - yours was given upon the condition of an almost "dare" to prove you wrong. As for the angry little kid response - I give you this familiar link. I think it says it all. http://www.larinx.com

Way to speak for "everyone reading this thread" (That's probably evidenced by the fact that you're the only one voting my posts down like some kid in a popularity contest). I'm sure they appreciate it. You were absolutely dramatic. You came in here saying things, telling me to prove the things you were saying, calling me names, insulting my blog, calling me ridiculous, not accepting my apology and continuing to harp on the subject, swearing you're not upset, saying my apology wasn't genuine, and then acting as if you're going to just wash your hands of it?

You're the epitome of dramatic. Also comic relief. Next blog post will be about you:D

EDIT: aaand...it's up!

----------

I guess not many people use Android to browse the internet.

The newer phones provide a better surfing experience so the numbers will probably go up. The older and middle-aged phones provide very poor browsing.

What does that actually mean, apart from that the figures are manipulated in some way?
Check out their methodologies summary. Definitely not raw stats. They alter stats based on country, and eliminate repeat visits. They may do other alterations as well, those are just the two they outline in their brochure.
