Apple has listed an improvement to the indoor walk/treadmill accuracy in Watch OS 27.
Sadly, it now doesn’t record distance when strapped to your ankle! Obviously wearing it on your ankle isn’t the intended use case and there’s no reason it should function properly, but I’m highlighting it because it did previously work, and fairly accurately too.
I often use a walking pad at my stand-up desk and had strapped my watch to my ankle to log the distance. Since the update, this no longer functions unless you swing your leg back and forth like it’s your arm!
Wish there was an option to change it!
