There are apps to create ringtones up to 40 seconds. Why pay for each when you buy the app and create the ones you want?

No offense to OP, but I just never understood why custom SMS tones are such a big deal to people. It's 10 seconds at the most, it's not like you could make a part of a song your SMS tone. Apple always put in more and more tones with almost every update, and I'm sure iOS 5 comes with some more too. I think Apple just don't see the reason to allow custom SMS tones, seeing as how not many people would go out of their way to make a 5-10 second ringtone.

I am offended as I can not hear Apple's stupid little tone for it's messages. It is bad enough to wait for 15 minutes for a email but then not hear the wimp tone is FAILURE!

So what does Apple give us to fix the problem, they allow you to have the wimpy tone repeat several times.

They need to look to Blackberry to learn what real notifications are surposed to do!:p

Apple does not allow us to have custom tones for messages because they know better than us!

Lol another one of your laughable replies.

Apples SMS tones are quite noticeable, but from the beta it looks like custom SMS and email tones are coming with iOS 5.

15 minutes for an email is a thing of the past, as we have had push email for a while now. Unless you have an account that does not support Push, in which case that's your email providers fault, not apples. But you do like to spout false info as this is the 3rd time I've seen you moan about 15 minute wait for emails.

Exactly. But for some reason ($?) Apple doesn't seem to want to let you create your own alerts for SMS, email, etc... just phone calls. It's the #1 request from customers of our AutoRingtone-based custom TEXT-TO-SPEECH ringtone creation apps.

Yes but can't you give 99 cents for an app that does that? Although I agree with you.

We have free versions with no limitations, except a subset of voices. $0.99 gets the pro version, with dozens of voices, uncensored and unlimited. Over 3 million ringtones created so far... most of them for free!

Mine is the "Mario Getting Bigger" tone. I switch back and forth between that and the Zelda "opening up a door" tone or whatever it was for. I don't see why people like you care if people like us want variety

When I had a Nokia phone, it would SPEAK the Caller ID info. That was THREE years ago! I was surprised the iPhone didn't do that. So I created an app for that (AutoRingtone.) Your ringtone can say anything "Mister Jobs, you have a call from the President" in dozens of voices. Users have created over 3 million custom talking ringtones! It's fun and useful, but the most common request is the ability to create those ringtones for SMS, email, etc. Now that Apple is allowing you to purchase ringtones for SMS, email, etc., it's a logical request to use custom tones as well.

I was looking at your "9,999 Ringtones uncensored" but i'm a bit skeptical. How does it work? Is it only for ringtones? Do I need to use an email adress on the ID, or a name if I want to?

Thanks. No need to be skeptical... we have tons of FREE variations, so download one and try it. They just have a subset of voices (i.e. UK, USA, Funny, Musical, etc.) PRO has 40 voices.

It creates both .m4r and .MP3 files. Apple allows .m4r files for ringtones and alarm clock alerts. We wish they would also enable this for SMS and email, and perhaps they will, but that's up to them. You can also use the MP3 versions for other phones (Android, etc.) That way, you can create a ringtone to play on your friends' phones when YOU call THEM!

You need to create/choose a unique ID. We recommend your email but you don't have to. You will use that same ID to download your custom ringtones from www.AutoRingtone.com.

Thanks for your interest and by all means, try one of the free versions.

Also, I noticed you're in Portugal! We have RINGTONES EURO which has a dozen European voices including Spanish Man and Woman. We plan to add Portuguese soon. Obrigado!

Yes, I'm portuguese. Glad to know! Oh, one more thing, my country is not "trash" like Moody says ;)

I would like thm too. I miss having my "Transformers" sound for a text message.... Yes I am a Transformers dork :D

I would LOVE to have custom text and email tones. My wife and I both have iPhones, and so does my brother. Whenever we're together we all check our phones every time someone gets a text or email. You might ask "why don't you set a different text tone" well, they all suck except for one.
