Unless they are smart enough to realize that the taller screen only helps with widecreen video.
It'll also make web browsing quite a bit nicer. Especially paired with the full screen Safari from iOS 6.

Not really. A taller screen just means less scrolling on portrait mode. It'll also make web browsing quite a bit nicer. Especially paired with the full screen Safari from iOS 6.

1) Portrait view for web pages will just have less scrolling involvedOr portrait view for web pages
or for photos
You tend to see the world through your own narrow and microscopic lens seemingly oblivious to your own RDF.
1) Portrait view for web pages will just have less scrolling involved
2) Photos will still have the same aspect ratio so they will display the same since only one dimension has been changed.
Try again.
The screen is diagonally larger, but only taller, not wider.1. A benefit
2. Larger screens are still a benefit for pictures as well as movies.
This is not the final product. I'm sure there will be plenty of new features and changes made before the GM release in the fall. Apple always does that. I for one don't care much about the look of the OS as much as I care about all the new apps and functionality they announced today. That alone is pretty mind blowing!
I don't know Apple well? I've been with them since their first iPhone. I think I know them pretty well.
There are no .bat files and endless config files that people are looking for? What are you babbling about?
We're not talking about .bat files and endless config files. People want the basic abilities to send a message (which finally was released after a while), copy and paste (which finally was released after a while), etc.
For chrissake, we're still having issues with attachments in emails. You're telling me only the tech nerds want this feature?
And once again, here we go with the magical pixie dust comment "It just works" comment.
NO, IT DOESN'T JUST WORK. Not when you have people frustrated that they can't do the basic things.
Like I said, it's Apple's M.O. to release these tiny features incrementally.
I'd like some basic features. You know perhaps I'd like to use my phone as a external drive to move around files, etc. I'd like to be able to toggle things like Wifi on/off without diving into the settings menu. Basic things you know?
Comments like yours is the reason I keep saying Apple is like North Korea.
And I'm not even talking only about the software side of things. Hardware is another discussion for another time.
Let me guess, you probably think McDonald's is the creme de la creme when it comes to hamburgers. I mean after all, they are the fastfood industries king.

Haha nice. These guys always talk about Apple's sales being proof that its the best product but if you show them Android's sales...somehow sales figures don't matter anymore and Android is a piece of crap no matter what anybody says.Let me guess, you probably think McDonald's is the creme de la creme when it comes to hamburgers. Bigger screens? I like the sharp retina display and the current size. If you wish to have a bigger screen that is fine, but not at the cost of resolution which is what most run of the mill androids do. Image quality is very important to me. So is overall phone size. The nokia lumia 900 is way to large for me to handle, and it doesn't look great for text. Apple chose to increase the length to go to HD, but keep the retina resolution. To get wider, they would have to go even longer.
I bet you've never owned an Android phone yet somehow you feel confident that iPhone is superior to Android. Is Android the OS to beat? Why? Is there something better on Android? I don't find features in Android so beautiful I need on my iPhone.
I think iOS 6 is the best release yet. Very excited about having Siri on my new iPad and also super excited about 3D maps and Facebook integration!
I hate all the bitching and moaning. ios is not all things to all people and never will be. Nonetheless, it gets better and more complete with each release and is a damn good mobile OS already. Do we really have to focus on the few things it lacks rather than everything it does well and has improved on? I mean wifi toggle? Yeah it would be nice. But jesus h christ, if that's your big complaint (with your phone let alone in your life) I think you're doing ok.
It just blows my mind that we have these amazing pocket computer phones with robust OSes and hardware faster than the computer I took to college (and I'm not that old... I had an iMac g3) and people can make a 15 page thread to complain about how it's soooo disappointing because it's missing a goddamn wifi toggle or whatever the gripe of the moment may be. I'm not saying be complacent and never move forward but how about just a LITTLE appreciation for how great the mobile experience has become in a VERY short period of time?
And if android or any other OS is so great, use it. Honestly, nobody will miss you.
You have a historically incorrect view of OS development if you believe Android came out with all useful features from the get-go. Seriously wrong.
I'm not starting or adding to the Android/iOS debates here: I agree it would be useful to start Wifi/on/off from the notification center. But it is not really that big of a deal missing it. No ulcers over it here. Maybe in iOS6 will add it as a minor feature?
Each OS has gone through incremental feature add ons. Sure cut /paste was missing in the earlier OS (which was strange considering Apple invented that 25 years ago). But all of that is water under the bridge.
But back to Android and a few examples. The earlier Android phones had a great hardware feature: removable SD memory cards. Good for photos and such. EXCEPT it was not possible to store and use (without rooting) Applications on the card, so Android users were limited to the internal small memory. Whereas Apple iOS allowed full memory access for app storage, from day 1. That is more important than wifi toggling.
Also when the dual core's Android hardware came out, it was not fully supported natively (using both cores) by Google. Individual mgfr added a layer on some phones, but in fact the iPhone 4 (with iOS 5) single core beat most of the dual core Androids in browser speed tests. Apple made better integrated software, and when the dual core 4S came out, it was nearly as fast as the iPad, a beat nearly all Android, even tho the 4S is at a slower clock speed (hence better battery life). That is good engineering.
So getting 'features' that look great on paper, doesn't' mean much, if they are useless. There are many more little missing features that have cause some, not all, Android users to come back to iOS.
I was looking at Android phones a year or 2 back. There weren't many reasons to change...esp when I learned that my favorite apps weren't there. Why would I switch to Android so that I could save one step to toggle wifi, when it took a full year for a Wall Street Journal app to come out for Android? I read that daily.
Some friends have download apps for Android that caused rebooting the phone daily...great feature.
My point is that not all is perfect in either iOS and both give features out incrementally. If you and the OP must have some that are missing, go to Android and I understand that ICS 'fixed' a lot of the missing features that iOS currently has...so it is good that you waited But don't argue that Apple delays features that really bother all of us. Some are quite minor, but not really annoying.
Atachments..yup if I can compose an email first, and then add attachments that would be nice. But in reality, I mostly open up excel (docs to go) or camera roll, etc, pick the file and then use the iOS to send it as an attachment. I really have not felt frustrated by that.

'It just works'. Yes, perhaps overused term. But just yesterday (and I don't understand this) a friend pulled up a restaurant web page on a Gingerbread Android, and was not able to open the Dinner menu. I looked at it, and yup, pressing the link resulted in nothing. I didn't bother trying on my iPhone, figuring it was a Flash file (which Android should open).
Anyhow, I did try while we were driving home, and the iPhone opened the file in my browser. It was pdf. So they and I are novice Android users...but in this case, yes, the iPhone, 'just worked'. Maybe someone can explain where the pdf went on Android.
There are many more examples to show that all OS's (Android and iOS) come out with tiny feature fixes over time. You and the OP only chose those that interest yourselves.
So if you only know Apple form the iPhone forward you don't know Apple. That was the posters point. Spec wise, many laptops beat Apple, but many times those 'specs' are badly implemented...Apple tries to bring out good hardware with matching software.
Look at the phones camera. The 4S camera is superb, many Androids are not that hot.
