If Apple wants to appeal to a broader audience, they should create 2 versions of iOS. One for basic users (this one) and one for advanced users, with features that make iOS act more like OSX, complete with filesystem, customization options, advanced options, etc.

You're not an 'advanced user', you're a child who thinks that 'playing' with their phone is a productive use of time.

What it comes down to is something I've noticed in the duration I've posted here on Macrumors: that many people here hate choice

I don't hate choice. If I wanted what you seem to want I guess I too would 'choose' to get an android phone. But I don't. The choice you wish for is already there, it's not necessary for Apple, a company known for doing things a certain way, to offer it to you as well.

So. Freaking. Creepy. :(

What's getting creepy is that you, an owner of a different phone entirely spends so much time here telling us what Apple should be doing, when those that do choose an Apple product over another tell you they're quite happy with their choice.

Everything that goes up, goes down one day... Apple is counting on their reputation, but this can go away more easily than one thinks

Doing things like turning your phone into an FTP or Samba server isn't childish. It's useful for a lot of people.

I'm speaking about the lack of choices on iOS, not choices on which phone to buy. Get it straight.

You still don't get the concept of offering choices to users.

And you don't get that allowing Apple to make design decisions is a choice as well. The first thing that convinced me to try a Mac was the fact that Apple answered the question "Where do I store my contacts?" A simple answer. Third-party apps all adapted to this decision. On Windows, it seemed that every app had it's own address book. Lots of choices. Crappy design.

(If you want to turn your phone into an FTP or Samba server, it's pretty clear that iOS is not for you. :))

Using your phone as an ftp server? Good grief, and you think Apple should be diluting their vision and pandering to an absolutely tiny minority of people like you who want to do this. I'm speechless.

But I do understand and have it completely straight. You don't get the idea that choice in the marketplace can come from different offerings from different companies. Apple is known for doing things a certain way, its way, a way that differs from others, and very successfully. Your choice is provided by companies other than Apple in this case. They have no interest in you, in the same way Aston Martin has no interest in selling you a bicycle.

As an AAPL shareholder, I'd want them to do the opposite of everything you suggest. The vast, vast majority of consumers want a phone that works out of the box, not a homework assignment.

And I'm sure you're pleased as punch that Apple can put out virtually the same device and OS year after year and still make billions.

What's frustrating to a lot of us that love the iPhone and OS, is that it's become stagnant, and getting only a new Maps app after 12 months is just a tad dissapointing to those of us that feel Apple is now coasting, playing it safe, if you will, solely to please its share holders. Seen now, not as innovators, but as stalwart protectors of the flame.

Oh please. Here's a homework assignment. Go back and take a look at Android mockups, sketches, and demos prior to iPhone release. Then take a look at the ones after.

Apple has never been about innovation in a new product sense. (iPod was just an MP3 player...) What they do - and do better than any one else - is take an existing product and make it friendly and easy to use. So much so that the masses take a liking to it over the previously clumsy iterations from other players.

Exactly

****

I keep hearing people talk about ICS. For the basic consumer there's really not much in Android that's a huge selling feature. iOS 6.0 will have TbT GPS directions and better Transit (because 3rd parties will be innovating)

Stuff like widgets and toggles simply aren't coming. If that's a big deal to you then stick with Android. Apple mucks their UI up for no Geek.

No argument from me. The "Revolutionary" buz word is entirely Apple's doing, not mine. They, themselves, created all these expectations, I'd just like them to live up to them and they can't even be bothered to create live icons.

Get out of the geek world & into the real world for a minute & really think hard about how many people would want to make their phone a server. Really. Really....

Yeah I've always wanted to run servers on my phone, too. I think some of us don't realize what a bubble we live in compared to the Average Joe.

That's just one example. Android isn't perfect but it offers so many choices to the user as to what you can do with the OS. That's why so many people are upset with iOS6 in this thread. Apple is on v6 and they're still rolling out features that should have been there years ago instead of empowering the user with choices.

Why be upset for, just stick to Android and be happy with it. All I see you do here is boast about how much better Android is. You're nothing more but a troll. I've said it once before, there are many of us who are happy with our iPhones and iOS. This thread is nothing more than a covered up troll story. I dislike how you're trying to force your opinions upon us who do enjoy iOS 6. You're trying a little too hard. It's obvious you love Android and all of its features, so stick with it and leave it at that. Kind of pointless seeing these threads about you wishing iOS was more like Android. They're 2 different OSes for 2 different platforms that cater to different types of users.

Nobody is forcing anything on you. No matter what WP7 or Android do, it has nothing to do with the fact that iOS6 was pretty disappointing this year to a LOT of people.

Also, not everything is trolling. You guys act like anything that questions Apple is trolling. This isn't some cult where people get beat up for not agreeing, this is a place where we enjoy products and make them better by putting our heads together and coming up with feedback for Apple so they can make the product better for us rather than what Apple thinks is best for us.

I'd gladly go back to iOS if they actually did some things right, but they're not after all these years, and some people agree, so what's the harm in having one big thread where people can vent this frustration over this version of iOS if they actually are not satisfied with the latest developments?

My feedback to Apple and the feedback which Apple cares about most comes in the form of me continuing to purchase the iPhone. Over the years I've tried a couple of different Android phones and have always come back to the iPhone. No OS or smartphone is perfect but the iPhone does pretty much everything I need

Is it really true you'd go back? You don't like the iOS and you don't like the screen size. It just doesn't seem like you like the iPhone all that much. That is fine but when you come to a Mac forum and say nothing but negative things about a Mac product don't be surprised when people get irritated by your posts.

I used an iPhone for almost 3 years and I liked it, so yes, I would go back. If the screen size went up and iOS actually started acting like OSX where I can manage my files and choose my own default programs, among other features that should be in a mobile OS, then yeah, there's no reason not to go back.

Don't some of you Mac users out there use Chrome? Wouldn't you like Chrome on your phone? Don't some of you guys like Firefox? Wouldn't you like Firefox there too? Don't you guys like things like adblocking? Wouldn't you like to block ads in pages like you can on OSX? I do it on my Galaxy Nexus with an app called Adaway and I never see an ad. Aren't these things we take for granted nowadays? Why are you guys being so resistant to having things on your phone that you already have on your desktop?

Personally other than the iPhone and iPad I'm not a Mac user. I tried MacBook and iMac and it's just not my thing. As far
As your specific example I never use ad blocking and I don't really seem to miss much any desktop features that are missing in iOS. There are probably some but nothing I can think of. No deal breakers

Lukewarm on FaceTime over cellular (no voice only mode), Siri (no text entry mode),

Doesn't Siri having a text entry mode kinda defeat the idea of Siri?!? lol. Also Why would FACEtime have voice only? that's what phone calls are for, not VIDEO calls.......

Disappointed by lack of major change on home page, notification center

Change for change's sake is pointless. Apple, on the whole, makes cosmetic changes when it's needed, like the notifications. why change the whole home page every year or so just for the sake of it?!

Anyway, yeah, iOS6 is a joke. I'm done with this nonsense for good.

Bye then... but i bet you'll still be posting about how iOS sucks for the next few years... :p

Don't some of you Mac users out there use Chrome? Wouldn't you like Chrome on your phone?

Chrome is actually coming, Google are working on it at the moment. nice to see you did your research ;)

If the screen size went up

It is, see the leaks for the iPhone 5....

if people want things to be like android so much, they should just make the change. i don't want iOS becoming a full on android clone.....
