I agree on every one of your points (been there for all of them - again, Im a sucker for "the latest").

If they just come out with a longer iphone 4 - and call it whatever, this will be the 1st time I consider getting something else. Not for a threat or to prove a point, but I really do want a larger all around phone. Not huge, just larger. And different!. Im not going to be one of those fanboys that says "Im a fanboy and apple cant do wrong, so Im happy with what they feed me (and act like I dont want something bigger - till Apple eventually comes out with it - wich you know they will). If you like the smaller size and they come out with a larger phone - KEEP THE IPHONE 4S ! ! ! SHeesh.

My only problem with leaving apple for another brand - even if for a generation or so, is the Apps I've "invested" in. Although not a total loss, because of my iPad and well, I will eventually come back to the iPhone when the thrill comes back. And of course everything im talking about is sheer speculation based on More than likely BOGUS LEAKED PHOTOS ! ! ! Nothing like getting bent outa' shape over nothing!:) (I always do that!!)

"Tim" will tell !!! Thats when We'll know.
I actually think the leaks are real. I don't hope so, but I think they are.

yea!. An iPhone "long", then an iPhone "long S" (for two years). Then FINALLY an all around larger iPhone.

yea! Way to milk us!

Then again, this could be the iPhone 4S long, THEN a all around larger iPhone.
Yea again for milking us still. (can you tell this is a sore spot for me?)

I just pray you are wrong about the leaked photos - but I am thinking you are right as well, and me getting bent out of shape will be justified ( but a man can dream - right?). If they DO come out with a real game changer - at this point - it woud eclipse the iPhone 4 release!!!! At least for me.

Not really. Than what would we get? A really new design and a larger display? That doesn't feel quite as big as the iPhone 4 was (again, first time retina display, front facing camera, improved rear facing camera, LED flash, second microphone for noise cancellation, better battery, new design, A4 chip with 512 MB RAM).

Perhaps we'll see NFC and most likely LTE. NFC isn't big enough yet to be really useful. LTE isn't available in my area (and it won't be in 95% of all iPhone users).

I think it will be hard for Apple to ever again eclipse the transition we saw when moving from the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 4.

Apple isn't showing any signs of being innovative right now (in my opinion). The retina display iPads and Macbooks are nice and one could argue innovative, but it's something we've seen since 2010 (which means it doesn't feel new and innovative).

My bet for the next-gen iPhone ("iPhone 5"): a new design but similar to the iPhone 4 (like leaked), a more energy-efficient A5 chip, a slightly larger display (we're talking about 0.5" here), limited 4G LTE support (like iPad) and perhaps NFC.

If they give the next iPhone NFC, than that would be the big thing because it just doesn't seem very likely. And the display would obviously be a big thing too for many people, because people have been screaming a bigger display for years now.

But as I said, I think it will be some time before we get an "iPhone 4 feeling". At the time, it just seemed incredible: we would get an incredibly high resolution display (which we hadn't seen before) with wide viewing angles and a much higher contrast than the 3GS, we would get a front facing camera and Apple's own FaceTime, a second microphone, a LED flash, a much better rear facing camera, a brand new design, a much bigger battery and a brand new A4 chip (this was Apple's first chip, which was exciting too).

It seemed like there were too many upgrades in one generation. The iPhone 4S to "iPhone 5" transition will never feel like a 3GS to iPhone 4 transition unless we've been fooled and the leaks are (partly) incorrect.

Part leaks are almost definitely the real deal. When have we ever such extensive, yet ultimately fake leaks from Apple? Never, is my answer.
