is it normal for the canadian store to be $125 more than the US site and the australian one to be double that?
I'm wondering if they just haven't updated the other stores yet. I got my finger on the buy button waiting. If thats the case then I would rather just order an ipad2 from canada at that price.

(Canadian in Australia over here)

To me this is the best thing about the iPad 2 release. The spec jump isn't really all that great for me to get the new one, so the fact that it has drive the prices of the original down is great news.

This makes me even happier to have managed to get gazelle.com to offer me $375 for my 16gig iPad WiFi mid-keynote :D

They have updated the store. It's just that they forgot to lower the refurb prices. So here in Canada you can get a brand new in box sealed iPad 16 GB Wifi for 419$ or a Refurb iPad 16 GB in a brown box for 479$.

Makes total sense.

Done deal

I don't care about it being thinner or 0.2 lbs lighter.

I just got a friggin's sweet deal on a refurb!! i'll update when a more significant upgrade comes around. This round was rather weak IMO.

Yep. Maybe keep it or gift it to a significant other. Handme-down iPads are still nice. :)

My wife already has an iPad 1 and will be selling that one as well.

The good thing is that I have a 16GB WIFI +3G plus an Apple Dock and a nice case so hopefully I can still get in the $450 range and only dish out $50 out of pocket since Im going for the WIFI only model this time.

My wife's is the 32GB version and she is going to get just the 16GB so hopefully same story there.

You've got to remember to take VAT off as prices in the UK to consumers are always VAT inclusive.

Why would you do that? If you buy in the UK, you have to pay the VAT (unless you're a sneaky foreigner and claim the VAT back on leaving the country).

If you buy in the US off Amazon or someplace else on the net with no brick & mortar stores, you get to skip the sales tax.

In Canada, both Bestbuy and Future Shop have lowered their prices by $130 for all iPad 1 models, to match Apple's prices, starting at $419 for the 16GB WiFi. The Canadian prices were $50 more than the US price, but that difference has been reduced to $20.

Hopefully the Canadian refurbs go down to $369. $479 has to be a mistake. Correction coming soon?

There are a slew of VNC apps for iPad. The really good ones aren't free though.

Do any of the VNC apps provide the performance of the remote screen sharing in Snow Leopard? Everything I've used has just painted the screen slowly from top to bottom.

The refurb price in the UK has now come down too - just bought the 16gb wifi as a present for my wife at £289 + 4% cashback from Quidco. Seems like an easy way to get into the ipad world...

Just bought a refurb for £289 too. Not bothered about the camera so saved myself £140.

Now that the refurb prices have came down, I don't think I have any excuses now for not getting one. At that price you have to really!

You didn't see this coming ? The new iPad was obviously coming out (especially if you are a regular on this site) and the price was obviously going to drop.
Just like the iPhone - Sell a week before the release and you will sell for more than $100 more than if you wait till after the release.

i bought my iPad in September, my first Mac in October, and my first iPhone in December, i have never sold an iProduct before, so i was not thinking about it, plus if i'd of sold before hand I would be waiting until the 25th with no iPad, i'm just hoping the resale price may increase a little when the Clearance is over. or i may just stick with my iPad 1 with 4.3 for now

I've seen a few people now who were selling their iPad say they hope the price goes up a little once it clears, I don't think it will at all. The iPad2 will be out here in the UK in 3 weeks at around £430 brand new. Refurbs will be out a few months later for around £370. The iPad 2 has been shifted out the road now, and if I were you, i'd get shot of it quick before the iPad 2 comes out, and the secondhand prices are around £350.

refurbs on Apple.com/uk for the 16gb wifi, are £289, how am i going to sell my used 16gb wifi for £350 now?

I meant the iPad 2 secondhand prices will be around £350. The iPad1 prices will just continue to fall imo as soon as the iPad 2 comes out, not increase any. I think a second hand iPad1 is worth around £250ish now with the refurb prices being what they are, but when the iPad2 comes out, I can see it dropping to around £200 in value with alot of people selling in order to upgrade.

If you gave away your old $600 iPad, it would have only cost $1.65 a day to own (assuming you owned it for a year). Sell it for $300 and the ownership cost drops to 82 cents per day or about $25 per month. Heck, I spend way more than that on Starbucks, or my cable bill.

I guess my point is, anyone who feels they're "screwed" because they are going to get $100 less for reselling an iPad, maybe needs to re-evaluate their finances better. Something having cost you $25 per month over the past year should be trivial.

Oh my god, you are just like me- evaluating total cost of ownership. I woukd wager to say that you work in real estate our finance. Only us numbers geeks compute total cost of ownership. ;)

i don't even bother to resell

i'm using my wife's old iphone 3G as an ipod and my old 3GS as another ipod. soon i'll take my wife's iphone 4 as well to complement my HTC Inspire.

same with ipads. i'll probably buy the previous gen refurb every year and always have one on hand for kids and whatever
