As I’ve said before get an air 4th or even 5th which Amazon has on sale. I just can’t at this price for that display and pencil dongle thing. The 9th is still a great buy even if it’s an aging design.
When these devices start going on sale. The price gap will probably not be more money to most users just looking for a nice media consumption device.

this is meant for entry buyers schools etc
If you crack the glass, on laminated displays you have to change the whole thing , in this case, you pay 40-50 bucks just to change the glass and thats all
Not sure why you're being downvoted. This *is* a factor to use a non-laminated display.

not a chance with the past 6 months of inflation
I know it’s “different” because Amazon relies on services and their online store more than Apple does — but Amazon has been selling 10” tablets for under $100 for years.

They could easily do it. They just don’t want to. A starting price of $329 for any tablet is at least 3x higher than most other manufacturers. Even an iPad mini 5 would be welcome at the $199 price.

They just don’t want to cannibalize their sales of higher-end devices, which it would surely do.

people get upset and dont think outside the box
Thats why iphone 14 lineup now its much easier to be repaired also compared to the pro line, the battery on the new macs easier to be replaced etc
Apple is going in a good direction

how can an under $100 ipad can cannibalise an top tier ipad pro ? Amazon maybe sold 10" tablets for years, but this kind of inflation happened in the last 6 months
Lets compare apples for apples next time :) This is an entry level ipad but with a top tier SoC good build good customer support and a good battery life
I bet this on amazon in 1 year from now it will be under $399 if not sooner

Those tablets are basically ewaste out of the box.

And if you're meaning the Amazon branded tablets, the 10" are not $100, lol. Even the cheapest is $150.

I didn’t say it would cannibalize sales of the top-tier iPad Pro. It would cannibalize sales of cheaper iPads. I’m sure many (but far from all) people would get the iPad mini 5 for $199 over the iPad 9 for $329.

Amazon is still selling their latest 10” tablet without ads, new for $165 — literally half of the price of the 9th gen iPad. And they’re selling refurbs for well under $100. Inflation seems to not force Amazon and other OEMs to sell $300 entry-level tablets. There is no Apples-to-apples comparison to be made here.

WIRED's Brenda Stolyar also felt the new iPad sits in an odd spot in the lineup:

When you crunch the numbers, reality sets in. The affordable and plenty-capable iPad that used to start at $329 has now been hiked up to $449.

Um, no, it’s still available for $329. A new design starts at $449.

It’s £499 starting price in the UK for the 10, and the iPad 9 is £299 which means it’s a really hard sell here. Maybe those colours will convince people to overlook that £200 difference in appearance but not experience? lol.

The one reviewer: “I bought this yellow iPad, gonna take one for the team.”

Well, your e-waste comment is an opinion, but I get it.

You’re right about pricing and I clarified that below. I was making estimates.

They still do sell refurb models for well under $100, and they had the 10” model, new, on sale for $75 last week. I guess inflation took a holiday last week.

My point to the person I was replying to was that inflation is a sad excuse for Apple to price things the way they are. Just say they care more about profit margins — it’s ok to admit — and it’s ok that they’re doing it! But don’t blame inflation for Apple keeping the entry-level iPad at $329. Blame the company that decided to do it.

I’ll tell you what Apple made me to do with this “new” iPad. I simply bought the basic 2021 iPad and for a real cheap because I don’t need anything more sophisticated. I upgraded from the iPad 5th gen which is literally the same thing, just faster with a slightly bigger display. And that’s mainly because more expensive iPads are simply not worth the price. They’re all just simple tablets with sucky “multitasking”. I just “need” my tablet to do shopping, basic photo editing amd browsing webs. It doesn’t matter to me if it has USB-C or miniLED display and ProMotion. That’s all nice but I’d appriciate better multitasking above it all. I’d like to have a 13 or 15” iPad but why? The Airs and Pros are just bigger and more expensive iPads. And I don’t care about the camera at all in a tablet too. The same goes with iPhone. If I didn’t like photography I’d upgrade my phone like every 3 or 5 years.

yeah Apple will surely replace just the glass ...

I do like the blue one, but it’s not the backside of the iPad I’ll be looking at most of the time, it’s the inferior display and that’s a dealbreaker. For people who never experienced a better display, it might be good enough, but not for me. I think the iPad 10 will serve mainly to push people to either buy the cheaper iPad 9 or the iPad Air 5 with its superior display and significantly better performance. Maybe when it goes on sale, it can be seen as a true alternative to the iPad 9.

So…is it just me or are these youtube reviews terrible? I literally want to know one thing - the angles of the Magic Folio compared to the magic keyboard. Every video I watched so far has just glossed over that and just opened it to (I assume, because they say nothing else about it) the max angle and put it down. Can you set it to a lower angle? can you use it on your lap? Does it extend further to use it at a nicer angle for the pencil? From CNet’s review it looks like it can have “reduced“ angles to make it stand straighter but I have seen no one comment on the hinge at all…was that part of the review embargo “no nos?”

It’s literally the only interesting thing about this launch and everyone focuses on the non-laminated display, price increase and keyboard function row.

EDIT: Finally found one that said “three height adjustments” but then didn’t go into it any further. It looks like the logitech setup on the iPad Pro is better than this…
