ijustine didn't like it
Exactly. When I saw iJustine fawn over the Pink color, I was like to myself, "what, are you 12?" Her video on this just goes to remind me why I will never take YouTube influencers, Prosser included seriously. If this is how a married woman with children behaves as an influencer, I weep for the future of our society. At least Rene Ritchie had the sense to stop doing tech reviews because 1)He has a real job now and 2)he understands that every year as of late tech upgrades are incremental at best. So, Rene did what the other influencers couldn't do - check out at the best possible time.

That's all anyone has to know

iPad 10th gen is a hard pass
For me, I'm lukewarm on it and this is coming from an owner of iPads 8 and 9. I never had a 1st gen Apple pencil and I got a third party wireless pencil that I got for $20. I just need to buy a charging adapter for it, then I'm golden here.

Are the volume buttons "absolute" like in the iPad Pro, or "relative" like in the iPad mini? In other words, if you rotate the iPad, does the "up" button change to the "down" button?

So…is it just me or are these youtube reviews terrible? I literally want to know one thing - the angles of the Magic Folio compared to the magic keyboard. Every video I watched so far has just glossed over that and just opened it to (I assume, because they say nothing else about it) the max angle and put it down. Can you set it to a lower angle? can you use it on your lap? Does it extend further to use it at a nicer angle for the pencil? From CNet’s review it looks like it can have “reduced“ angles to make it stand straighter but I have seen no one comment on the hinge at all…was that part of the review embargo “no nos?”

It’s literally the only interesting thing about this launch and everyone focuses on the non-laminated display, price increase and keyboard function row.

EDIT: Finally found one that said “three height adjustments” but then didn’t go into it any further. It looks like the logitech setup on the iPad Pro is better than this…
They're all cringeworthy but at least the CNET video made some good points. I'm waiting for MKHBD and Joanna Stern to give their opinions on both iPad 10 and iPad Pro M2.

These reviews are so bizarre. "These new iPad are $449, but you can often get the M1 iPad Air on sale for (whatever)"

Well, why can't the new iPad go on sale then?

MacStories’s written review goes into the kickstand more. He likes it - said it was helpful for holding it in portrait mode even.

I expect it will, though it may take a few months. The higher base price may also have been done to give more wiggle room on discounting.

Exactly. We will see the iPad 10 for $399 or even $379. At those prices it’s a good value.

Justine Ezarik (iJustine) doesn’t claim to be objective and has admitted her over-the-top enthusiasm is an act. She does the same for Samsung and Google releases. Nevertheless her unboxing videos are informative. Stop with the sexist attacks.

How is it sexist when her whole act turned me off because it wasn't funny? It was more of immature.

I didn’t say it would cannibalize sales of the top-tier iPad Pro. It would cannibalize sales of cheaper iPads. I’m sure many (but far from all) people would get the iPad mini 5 for $199 over the iPad 9 for $329.

Amazon is still selling their latest 10” tablet without ads, new for $165 — literally half of the price of the 9th gen iPad. And they’re selling refurbs for well under $100. Inflation seems to not force Amazon and other OEMs to sell $300 entry-level tablets. There is no Apples-to-apples comparison to be made here.
Amazon sells their hardware at a loss because they make their money elsewhere.

Justine is self-aware. She made a post about a $10,000 wireless bill 15 years ago that went viral and turned it into an industry. She knows she’s lucky. But she’s gotten to interview Tim Cook and has a nice gig making videos about popular products (not just Apple). She also had a health scare and has helped make people aware of the risks of her illness.

It’s £499 starting price in the UK for the 10, and the iPad 9 is £299 which means it’s a really hard sell here. Maybe those colours will convince people to overlook that £200 difference in appearance but not experience? lol.
Fair enough, but that’s not the point of my comment. The writer claims “The affordable and plenty-capable iPad that used to start at $329 has now been hiked up to $449.” That’s literally untrue. The affordable and plenty-capable iPad they are referring to is still on sale for the same price. (Yes, we’re talking about USD here, but the point stands).

This is another example of writers jumping on the controversy bandwagon, they’ve got their talking points, and they make comments that don’t make sense as a result. This is why so many people despise “journalists“ today; they’re so often followers and poseurs. They parrot talking points, they don’t share objective observations.

There is simply now a new iPad which is a blend of the Air and 9th generation (as odd as some of the choices are, like the Pencil thing).

She doesn’t intend her act to be funny.

Did you view the same video I did? She admitted the Apple Pencil 1 situation was less than ideal. The colors look nice and so do the cases. There are worse ways to spend $449.

The writer is correct. The iPad 10 is supposed to be the new replacement 2022 version of the iPad 9. Sure the 9 is still for sale, but many were waiting for it’s successor and were shocked it’s gone from £379 to £499. It’s a hell of a jump in cost and parents looking for that entry level iPad are now buying last years model to make some sense of it. The iPad 10 wasn’t just some random niche iPad in the middle, it’s the cheapest current model in the range with a hefty price increase. That confused and incensed a lot of consumers who were holding out for what should be the entry level iPad replacement.

Most likely "relative". The Air 5 has "relative" volume controls like the mini 6 even though the volume buttons are in the same place as the Pro. There's no option to make it "absolute" on the Air 5 and mini 6 either.

Edit: I meant mini 6 not 5

People criticizing the way she does her “reviews” does not always make them sexist. I don’t think she is able to give an honest review because she has close relationships with the tech companies that she reviews, I have nothing against her as a person and my opinion of her reviews has nothing to do with her gender.

Exactly. I just don't see her as funny. Most influencers like her tend to be biased towards tech companies just so they can shill to get free stuff.

Yeah I did and you missed my response from yesterday where I said I'm lukewarm on buying the new iPad and that I was meh on the whole 1st gen Apple Pencil since I don't own a first party pencil. Maybe you should go back to re-read the last few pages because I did address the pencil controversy.

They are literally incorrect. The affordable and plenty capable iPad that used to start at $329 still starts at $329. You are wrong. We understand what you’re trying to say, but you’re factually wrong. They’re jumping on the bad-press bandwagon, and they’re not being completely open and honest. The redesigned iPad costs more. But the previously affordable and plenty capable iPad LITERALLY STILL EXISTS FOR THE SAME PRICE, PEOPLE CAN STILL BUY IT AS IF THE NEW ONE NEVER EXISTED. OMG.

An affordable entry level iPad was not released this year despite last years still being for sale. That’s a fact. Next year they may still keep that iPad in the lineup and again not release an entry level iPad. That’s a poor response to their most popular market IMO.
