What would be the battery hit? I don't imagine it being too great. Most laptops have 4GB.... The Xoom has 1GB as does the Atrix and those are supposed to be equivalent to the iPhone/iPad in battery (maybe a little under.. But it's also dual core)

Xoom is also based on CPU/GPU and battery technology that has had a year to advance from the time of the original iPad. Yes, Engadget's very limited test of the Xoom battery life had it close to the iPad, yet they could not do web tests with Flash turned on - perhaps poorer battery life is why motorola left out flash? I imagine many Xoom users (and engadget - look we have flash dweebs) would choose to turn on flash and watch their battery life dwindle.

think about it this way:

apple has been this far ahead of the other companies in releasing a succesful tablet device (announced in jan. 2010 and released in april 2010), the motorola xoom is just NOW coming out, today; the blackberry plaything isn't out yet, the other nice one isn't out yet either (can't think of its name).

what makes everyone think apple will just release something that is either comparable or less than what the competitors have at this point or this year even? think about that.

apple is always ahead of the tech game and this is absolutely no exception. apple stays ahead of the game and i'm sure they anticipated all this out-spec-ing that would happen by the time the ipad 2 would be ready, which is now.

i'm really not going to think about or believe any of the rumors until i see this thing for myself on march 2. i have faith in apple and i think we'll be pleasantly surprised. and i really cannot wait to see what's in store for iOS 5.

bezel touch controls. calling it now.. its true though, the competitors for the iPad are finally coming out now, so apple will do something that'll make everything look outdated. all the hardware coming from rival companies are gunning for a year old product, apple needs to take advantage of this.

You right. It's "only" twice as fast, twice ram, 4 times graphics, lighter, thinner, two added cameras, gyro, new OS.

Twice as fast, doubt it unless apple really cracks the CPU :( not going to happen they never do. Apple tend to be conservative with its processors.

Twice the ram fine I don't think right now we would do much more with more memory except that memory is also shared with the GPU its not separate. I would have liked to see more.

Thinner is fine but lighter is more important and way longer battery I rather have another 5 hours of battery and not be thinner. Cameras great but will they be higher resolution or the low level iphone version?

New OS is nice but lets see what its like when it comes out.

iPad is slow in a lot of ways. Especially browsing or trying to type. This is going to sound silly, but a lot of websites on the iPad take 15-30 seconds to load.

Are you on 3G or what , mine ipad takes maybe 3 second to load a google search and NY times took exactly 9 second to load completely. Newsweek was 7 seconds and did not miss a beat. Clicking on an article was 5 second to load. Only thing that I do notice is that advertisement can take about 10 second to load after everything else, but who cares about that.

I do not what to even know how long Flash would take. Now don't get me wrong I want even more speed and more memory would help a bit. :D

PS: Nasa.org which is a lot of graphics took 21 seconds to load. Check your wifi if your having such slow performance.

I EXPECT TO SEE 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM, LIGHTPEAK, MATTE SCREEN, AND A FULL BODY REDESIGN IN THE NEW IPAD.:D

sorry i'm still enjoying the mbp trolley crash

I guess I'll have to wait another year to buy one

Apple would not hold an event for 512 MB and a camera on the next iPad ... there is more to iPad II.

Try more like 512 MB of ram, front facing camera, dual mode 3g, more storage or the same storage with new streaming etc from mobile me to make up for the lack. all the gyroscope etc fun from the iphone 4, new anti glare glass and better brightness etc features.

they will release another iPad in September with all the same specs as iPad 2 but with Retina Display...it won't be called iPad 3

false. the invite, if you pay attention to its clues, gave it away already, there will be a display increase that we'll see at the march 2 event. mark my words.

the 2 clues we've gotten from apple since yesterday point to the display increase. the only thing pointing to it not being a display increase are crappy rumors that ANYONE could have started, including "analysts" who are from rival companies to try and kill some of the ipad 2's hype. business is business.

think about it, the official things we've seen from apple about the event for the ipad 2:

1st: the invite. it has to do with the gray shading/coating over the corner of the ipad. this is found on the ipod touch and the iphone 4g on apple's website under those respective devices' galleries. it's not found on the current ipad or iphone 3gs. this is a conscious decision apple made when designing the invite for the event. they wouldn't tease us like that, there's no point in pissing your customers off like that, those who look that deeply into stuff like that anyway, haha.

2nd: the yerba buena display outside. on the left side, symbolizing the past, is a bunch of random dots (pixels) farther from one another, but on the right side of the apple logo, (symbolizing the future) is a bunch of dots (pixels) much closer together, which i think shows pretty clearly a retina or display increase for the ipad 2.

now why would apple choose to go with these two seemingly blatant context clues with the only 2 pieces of official apple information we have leading up to the event? because they know apple fans are pretty hardcore and the serious ones will find this a sort of fun "scavenger hunt" if you will. it's fun to find some clues like this and predict what will happen. after the event, we may look back on this and think how the clues were right in front of us all along, unless we get past the corny idea of it and realize, "hey this might actually be telling me something"

open your mind.

But it say iPhone 5 will also not support LTE 4G, perhaps iphone 6 will have this function in the year 2012. So perhaps for all Apple fans and iphone users, it is still a bad news! :(

?

Doesnt anybody else notice that one side has few dots (pixels) while the other side has double the dots?!? I think we will get the retina display still![/QUOTE]

Ok, who let this guy back on the computer?

That doesn't sound any less boring than what he said. You just made it take more words.

Just teasing, just teasing :D

That said, axual is right. I mean... There has to be at least one exciting "wow" feature for them to be making an entire event centered around the iPad... with a flier so bold as to declare the entire year being about it...

About a mere spec bump and geeky front-camera? Not even apple can get away with making this sound WOW-ish... And from what we've seen, it seems they're thumping their chest about this event being "wow" concerning the iPad. After all that they come and go "ya, we sped up the specs a bit, and added that front-camera we already have on every apple device in existence, including the iPen and iMicrowave" oh oh, and we have all those small side-features even the cheapest iPod already has... Not exactly exciting. If that's all they were adding, they wouldn't make an entire event about it.

don't be stubborn. think about it.

it won't be the 2048x1536 Retina Display
that comes in September

iPad 2 HD? iPad 2.5?
something along those lines

I have more sources that say we won't, but yours is the first comment I've read that makes any metaphorical sense out of how they've decorated the building.

are you an artist of any kind?

anyway, the theme of referring to more of something (and something colorful) seems like a good read to me. but that could be facebook HD or something to do with MobileMe or iTunes streaming as well. nobody from Apple's said the iPad 2 is the sole release of note on 3/2. (or even said that iPad 2 is being announced for that matter, tho' it seems a no-brainer.) remember, there's often... ...one more thing.

it really surprises me how much people will believe based on one person's random rumor (gruber saying another device is slated for sept.)

why believe one person like that? another rumor the other day said ipad 2 wouldn't come out until june. that, too, was a rumor, that i think holds just as much water as gruber's lame rumor about an ipad 3 in the fall. makes no sense and isn't characteristic of apple.

iPad is slow in a lot of ways. Especially browsing or trying to type. This is going to sound silly, but a lot of websites on the iPad take 15-30 seconds to load. In the grand scheme of things, thats not very much time. But if you need to go through a few pages, that time can add up very quickly to a lot of time wasted waiting. Especially when a modern computer running a modern browser on any broadband connection can open, render, and display most websites nearly instantly. And other little things that are supposed to be neat UI tricks add to time wasted. Like page turns in iBooks. iPad's screen refreshes in mere milliseconds. Why do we need a page turn animation that is just as "slow" as a screen refresh on a Kindle 3?

I had an iPad, but I sold it because I just didn't find myself using it much. I'll probably get another one when iPad 3 comes out. But one thing I never found is that websites loaded slowly. Sites load as fast as the connection allows. Unless you're browsing some strange sites, but sites like facebook, this site, and various other sites all loaded just as fast on the iPad as on my MacBook Pro. I noticed the reloading thing with the checkerboard a few times when I had a bunch of tabs open, but it never really bothered me.

Worst update ever.

If it doesn't come with an integrated multi-sheet-feed scanner and OCR software, I'm not buying it.

/sarcasm

But that would be cool.

Yeah best thing to do is just wait for legitimate rumors about release dates when they're close like the MBP refresh date was pretty solid and just wait for the rumors that come out hours before. Other than that, it's not worth drooling over speculation, because it almost always will let you down except for some rare cases.

I like reading about all the speculation and what not, but I never let my hopes get too high because it's almost never going to live up to the hype.

it is in relation to the pic's found in the iBook App's
were they really testing for the iPad 3 that far ahead?
it was prolly intended for the iPad 2 but fell through so they will release one later in the year with the same specs just a better display
