That's the reason I'm looking for a jump in resolution. Honestly, the iPad makes for an average e-book reader because of the lower resolution.

If you could get a screen that was nearly as pixel dense as the iPhone screen, it would make a huge difference.

Agree completely.

I wonder if Apple will use the current iPhone 4 body/design or something completely different that will make people say "is that an iPhone"? Maybe by adding a keyboard?

That is sweet.
Nice wide viewing angle, low power good sunlight readability.
What is the cost on those bad boys?

That 4.8inch would make a great iPodTouchPro.

I really wish i knew, so far it doesn't look like its available yet, or is but not for consumers (only for companies to put into their products). Its probably a expensive little thing.

Making a run for the Border!!

So when the iPad 2 hits the shelves the Can/USA border crossing will be a little heavier those days. Hope Apple :apple: stocks the shelves accordingly cause a few of us will be waiting!! :D:D:D

Well, by that reasoning iPhone 3G/S owners would have been left behind when the iPhone 4 was released, since it has quadruple the pixels:p Were they? Nope. It's incredibly easy to scale up a game's res and appropriately replace textures.

That's not really true. You can't scale graphics up and have the same fidelity as you did originally (look at your iPhone games on an iPad).

What REALLY happened when iPhone4 was released was that most devs continued to write applications targeted for standard iOS resolutions and came to the Retina Display as an upgrade, same as they are doing with the iPad. Sooner or later developers will have to make a choice in either supporting the lowest common denominator or going after a smaller audience that has the newest toys.

That's fragmentation... but its bound to happen sooner or later so we might as well get ready for it.

Keyboard on the iPhone - never (at least not while Jobs has anything to say).

I know many would like one, but I don't care, the on screen keyboard works great for me.

This is going to be one nice iPad. I'm glad I waited for v2.

why? youve wasted an entire year when you could have been enjoying a sleek device that makes surfing a dream, not to mention excellent apps for controlling your media center, remoting into other machines, playing games, and saving you a ton of hassle at the airport security checkpoints.

Airport Security Checkpoints for laptops different than iPads?

I know I have to separate my MacBook Pro from everything else when ever I go through airport security, but does the iPad fall into a different category? I don't need to separate it, I can just leave the iPad in my bag just like an iPhone or any other electronic device. Now that I think about it, that makes sense. Cool.

About waiting for iPad 2, you make a good point. Buy if you need it and/or want it, especially when it's relatively new. A year of having a old iPad today would be worth $499-$829. Then just enjoying a new one even more in March or April.

I certainly hope they quadruple the resolution. I remember I said many months ago, a 2560x1920 resolution on a 9.7" screen would give the exact same pixel density as the iPhone 4 and it's still 4:3 shape and it's a common width and hight for other displays. But having a 5 (4.9) MegaPixel Display sure is pushing it! 3 (3.1) MegaPixel is going to be incredible even if it's only 64% as high resolution as 2560x1920. I like the idea of two 1920x1080 top to bottom videos running on one screen (with 400 lines to spare), and the dual core video would be capable of it. (Hardware H.264 Codec, etc.)
