If I could just find out if I order online, when will I actually get the iPad in my little hands!?!? That way I can decide if I will wait in a line or be willing to wait a few days. ARGH!

I work across the street from Tysons (where the first ever retail store was opened) and get off work at 3. I heard they will be closed for an hour or two before launch, so I plan on walking over and staking the joint out to see the line situation.

Getting the 64 gb AT&T 3g black model (I hope).

one of the worst locations to get in and out of. With all the people who work within a 3 mile radius, good luck. Reston will be no different.

get up in the morning, put it in your shopping card, go through the process up to shipping options and see for yourself. No need for hand-holding here.

I don't understand their time zone logic.

What is the difference if they make it available at 1PM EST time one the east coast?

It's not like the west coast stock is going to deplete any faster.

Just offer to sell it 1PM in each respective time zone.

meh, I will be at best buy/target or walmart at 5, if its chaos, I will go home.

I dont need it day 1, but im sure that the demand wont be so bad that the volume of retail locations in my area will be depleated...

I have a BB and Walmart less than a mile from my house, and at least 2 targets 5 miles away....

Any reason why I wouldn't be able to get up and pre-order at 4am EST and then try to snag one later in the day at the Apple Store. And if I can pick one up - cancelling my online order?

I don't know, you are the one that would have to get up. Maybe if you got too drunk tonight. Ha ha.

Seriously, no reason that wouldn't be possible except that buy the time you p/u your iPad in-store the online order might already be prepared for shipping and you could not cancel it. You'd then have to deal w/ returning which is a time waster and PITA.

This is just what I was thinking, and why I am just going to order on-line and wait a few extra days to get it. I will be near the Apple Store at Coconut Point in Estero, FL on Saturday, so I may just swing by and see what things look like, or maybe just to play around with the new cover. For some reason the new cover intrigues me.

i don't even know what theres to set up, here u just walk to the store take the box and pay. simple and easy finished

Don't worry. There will be people present at every store who intend to make this as hard and painful as possible for the rest of us ;)

You know, the people who need setup, the people with credit card problems, the people with tax exempt forms, the people who need 20 minutes to decide which one they want (and need explaining about the difference in every feature), the people who...

How long are people gonna have to wait in line if everybody who buys one gets time to set it up with a store employee?

Person doing the sale is not necessarily the same as the person doing the personal setup. I'd doubt that would be the case.

When I bought my iPad during the launch last year, the store had an employee greet me at the front door and went through the whole selection, purchase and setup process with me. Then he went to get the next person in line.

My setup process was 10 seconds to activate it, then I left. I didn't want/need anything other than this (so I could use it on the way home).

that's what i'm doing! lol

I read somewhere that AT&T will transfer the grandfathered unlimited 3G data plans from original iPad to iPad2. Any chance that will be as simple as swapping the SIM card?

You're right. There are 18 different models..now is it a mistake in the article or does that mean that Best Buy won't offer all models at launch?

I doubt that color constitutes a 'model'... its an option.
Physical differences (memory, 3G) do.

What about Sams Club?

I thought they said the iPad was gonna be available at Sams Club at launch too, did that change?

I believe I saw an article that says AT&T suggests to call them and have them transfer the IMEI number from the new iPad to your account. Otherwise, you may lose the true unlimited plan.

How are there only 9 models at Best Buy? Wouldn't there be 18 with black and white?

black Wifi: 16, 32, 64
black VZM: 16, 32, 64
black ATT: 16, 32, 64

white Wifi: 16, 32, 64
white VZM: 16, 32, 64
white ATT: 16, 32, 64

18 SKUs must be a nightmare for stores to order....knowing which might be popular.

It's actually very easy. People buy more of the cheaper 16GB models. Stores are so ****ing stupid though and buy the same amount of everything. That's why when you go to buy a shirt, there are 50 XXXXLarge shirts left, and no mediums.

They will. 100-150 units at one store isnt a very good start to what is gonna be a device that is in high demand. Cue extortionate ebay sellers.

The thing is ebay is limiting sales of the iPad, so those extortionate ebay sellers might not be able to do that.

I wonder why Apple did a full day when they launched the iPhone 4 last year, but once again, they're only putting the iPad on sale at 5:00.

Any word on how quickly Apple will ship the online iPad 2 orders?

And if you order one online but end up getting one at a local store tomorrow evening, will you be able to cancel the online order?

There are a lot of conspiracy theories, but it could be as simple as a staging issue. In order to make sure all stores have a stock of the product, they're planning for a uniform time of the day late enough that FedEx or UPS or whichever will have had a chance to deliver the product to the stores on launch day.
