Guess I take my chances and get up at 4am and order with the fastest shipment option ... if I am lucky I get it Saturday and can play with it all weekend, worst case I will get it early next week and waste a work day with toying with it ....

How long do you guys think will take for people to get their iPads ordered online from the get go?
Monday, tuesday the following week?

There are a lot of conspiracy theories, but it could be as simple as a staging issue. In order to make sure all stores have a stock of the product, they're planning for a uniform time of the day late enough that FedEx or UPS or whichever will have had a chance to deliver the product to the stores on launch day.

Perhaps, but you would think that they'd do the same for the iPhone. I'm gonna go with the "Apple is an attention whore and they want the people to line up all day and the news cameras to fuel the hype" conspiracy theory. :)

So stupid. They just want the media coverage.

There is no reason why you cant preorder for delivery Friday other than they learned their lesson from the Verizon iPhone 4 where if there arent lines, riots, and chaos, it will be considered a failed launch.

+1

It's all about media coverage.

This is nonsense. eBay isn't limiting the sale of anything. People will be buying the iPad to resell.

Well, they did post new iPad 2 rules:

http://announcements.ebay.com/2011/03/listing-policy-clarification-apple-ipad-2/

It is not at all uncommon for eBay to restrict the sale of perfectly legal items. As soon as a lawyer writes eBay a letter indicating some auctions have infringed on their IP or other legal rights, eBay pulls the auctions and penalizes the sellers. A few years back it was almost impossible to sell perfectly legitimate designer handbags (even with their original sales receipts).

fast free shipping

Anyone know how FAST fast free shipping is? Maybe where they are shipping from for online orders? I can wait till early next week, but not late since I have to head out on a trip and already sold my 32GB wifi for 480$, need to replace it soon!

In the past, I have received i-Items in 48 hours.

Is it conceivable that the online store will run out of stock?

I think I will swing by BB, Target, and Wal-mart on my way home tomorrow and if they are mad houses I will just go home and order offline. I just want to see what people think about the online store being out of stock by 6pm EST.

Way to go Apple - treating your Customers like trash to gin up headlines.

This is the type of comment from somebody who is impossible to please and likes to complain about everything.

Develop your own tablet device if you don't like that apple enjoys promoting and selling its own products. How dare they!

amazon?

I have an amazon gift certificate that I'd like to use. Does anyone know if Amazon will carry the ipad2 and if they'll take orders tomorrow?

Historically, how many units do stores get? Any chance I might be able to waltz in Sunday and get one?

probably is subject to some mid to low level store manager or inventory manager's expectations of local demand....or I suppose some exec could have said that every store gets 150 ipad 2's no matter the location...be it a one horse town in texas or downtown new york city....

the secret sauce is still a secret....:D

I don't understand their time zone logic.

What is the difference if they make it available at 1PM EST time one the east coast?

It's not like the west coast stock is going to deplete any faster.

Just offer to sell it 1PM in each respective time zone.

You do realize the 4AM EST = 1AM PST?

What do you think the availability of the Smart Cover will be? Especially at non-apple store locations.

I believe I saw an article that says AT&T suggests to call them and have them transfer the IMEI number from the new iPad to your account. Otherwise, you may lose the true unlimited plan.

That is what the AT&T representative told me when I called them. Just remember to make note of your iPad's phone number that is associated with that account. I almost forgot that you get a phone number tied to the account. Also, make sure you know your username and password for the account. I just sold my old iPad and wanted to have things straight since I wouldn't have access to it any longer.

Biggest question for me is buying online or driving 1 hour south to Delaware- home of tax free shopping. If I didn't have to work Saturday I'd probably drive. Luckily my Saturday shift should pay for the iPad. I may even be able to go for the 3G. Also, it would suck to drive all that way only to leave empty handed. Apple store @ 4am here I come.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

I don't understand the 5pm launch time, though. So basically the stores will be open all day and people will be twiddling their thumbs, then 5 pm rolls around and they start selling them. Why not just have a "launch day" instead of a "launch time". I get the launch time for online orders, just doesn't make sense for retail.

Because by having a launch day, you create a launch time of midnight. Some stores will be willing to open at midnight -- 24 hour Walmarts, if nothing else. All the people who want one will be waiting in line there. Apple Stores can't be outdone, so they, too, need to open at midnight. At this point, everyone else might as well open at midnight or miss publicity and attention of the launch.

I personally prefer midnight, but 5pm probably works better for everyone else.

I think it's mostly about getting as much hype and publicity and free advertising as possible. Think about it. The Verizon Launch wasn't "perceived" as successful in the media even though numbers were great because most people didn't want to wait in line so they pre-ordered. By not offering that, I think they would rather create the long lines and get the local news teams out there for free coverage. Not a bad strategy.

I plan on going to the mall later that evening or Saturday morning. I'm not dealing with the lines. I've waited this long (not an iPad 1 owner), what's another 24-72 hours?

so will AT&T or Apple shipping be faster? I know Apple has a history of shipping products from China whereas AT&T usually come from the US...
