meh ... I'll order one online. I passed on the first gen iPad, so I can survive a few more days without one.

Not particular about color ... just want a 64GB Wifi+3G.

Is anyone as anal about a new Apple product as I am when it comes to the battery? I like to fully charge it immediately after I open it up. I'm pretty sure this is is how it should be to get the best performance from your device.

Seems like the Personal Setup would be bad for batteries; they'll just take out your new iPad 2 and turn it on. Is it a myth that batteries need to be charged right away?

It makes absolutely no difference.

It is a myth. Batteries do not need to be charged right away. In fact, they were charged to a degree when Apple installed them in the device.

The apple store will only get 10 of each for friday
The apple store will close at 3pm on friday and reopen at 5pm for the launch

thats what my student says who works at the apple store
the 499 machines will fly off the shelfs

so 180 total? that seems low compared to previous launches

Sounds weak = lots of unhappy people. No chance they have this few, especially at the apple stores. Another reason to buy online.

I just called my local AT&T store and they said they will only be taking orders tomorrow starting at 5 PM, but will NOT have any actual units in stock. So, if you're planning to get one at an AT&T store you'll want to call them and see if they'll actually be stocking any.

How many iPad 2's will be allowed per customer?? Anyone know?? I'd like to buy 2, one for me and one for my stuck at work brother! :p

I imagine your student is not quite kept up to speed on Apple's supply for all stores on launch day. Many stores will have much more than that. IMO.

I just spoke with both of my local Walmart's and they said that they are limiting it to 1 per person and that is because they are only getting about 10 of them. They also mentioned that they still have not received them and do not know what models they will have.

I imagine the Apple Stores will be much different than this.

You do realize the 4AM EST = 1AM PST?

Sure, what does that and the price of tea in China have to do with my point???

I'll say it again.

I should be able to buy the iPad 2 at 1PM eastern time in Florida.
Same as the guy in California that is buying it at 1PM.

I don't wait until 3 hours later to watch SNL on Saturday Night.

Has there been any word about store availability checks online like they've done in the past?

I am having trouble making sense of the point you're trying to make.

Apple is going to ship all online orders from the same place; they aren't timezone dependent. If EST was allowed to start ordering at 1AM, there is a chance that all iPads destined for the US could be sold out before 1AM CST even rolled around (which is still 2 hours ahead of 1AM PST).

Who gets my $?

I think heading to the Apple store is probably a terrible decision. There will be a ridiculous amount of people, and a handful of those people will have absolutely no idea what they're doing.
I think Best Buy is probably the second worst option - because people who want technology, but who know nothing about technology are drawn to Best Buy (e.g. my father).
Walmart...is Walmart. They'll probably have limited stock, and you'll have to bring a machete to fight through the thicket of mullets shopping there at 5pm on a Friday afternoon. I also don't trust the competence of the electronics dept. employees - one would assume they would have their top team on, but that isn't exactly inspiring confidence.
I think Target is the winner. I'll be there at 4, and may even throw some Peeps in with my order. Huzzah.

I am talking about buying at a store. Not online.

I'm going to order online in the morning then try Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart at 5pm. I will cancel the order (assuming its not too late) if any of those stores have the one I want.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but since the day is tomorrow and I want to be absolutely sure.

I let go of my iPhone 4 unlimited data (since I dont really use much) and opted for the good amount 4GB + hotspot. I'll always have my iphone and battery pack. There is no limitation out there saying that the iPhone 4 CANNOT be used for the iPad 2 Wifi? I'd rather save the $140 for the 3G hardware and monthly fee.

Thanks,
Christian

It should work. I just used the WiFi hotspot on my iPhone 4 with my iPad 1. Works fine. No reason to think it shouldn't work with the iPad 2.

I am pretty sure the guy doesn't realize how time zones work and/or just wants to be greedy. Ordering at 1AM or 4AM. It won't ship any sooner.

I'm with a lot of these other people. Based on what I hear as far as availability during the day, I'll order one online noonish... then take my chances at the Best Buy/Target stores. Cancel the online order if I find one in a store.

I'm going for the AT&T 3G 32GB model, so I feel my chances are better than the lower priced models.

I haven't really heard confirmation if the AT&T stores will have any in stock yet.

It is a myth. Batteries do not need to be charged right away. In fact, they were charged to a degree when Apple installed them in the device.

When I bought my iPad last year, the battery had >90% charge. I'm sure apple knows the initial shipment will be sold with the quickness.

so it will be available for order from the online store in just around 6hrs 30mins?

(i apologize but i'm from europe and all the time zone differences make me go mental even when googling)

Cheers
