Mac Otakara claims that Apple is planning to conduct a short media event at the end of February to launch the next generation iPad. The site offers few other details, though seems to think the actual availability of the iPad 2 will be in March.

We're not sure about the accuracy of the information, but the timing seems reasonable. Apple is widely known to be prepping the next generation iPad. There have been reports of iPad 2 prototypes being spotted and there was also an unconfirmed tip that a television commercial for the iPad 2 had already been shot in LA last week.

Apple holds an event every March/April for a developer preview of iOS. Last year (iOS 4) it was held in April but the 2 previous years it was in March. Maybe the iPad will be "One More Thing..."

While I will not personally be purchasing the iPad 2, I have a couple of family members who will. I get so excited for Apple events, even if for products that I know I won't be purchasing. Can't wait to see when they'll send out the invitations and what they have in store!

Come on, Apple!
My visa can't wait.

idk if i wil get it. If it has enough new features and i have the money i guess i will.

Me too. The only way I am getting one is if it has some really cool new features and I see myself using it. If all they add is a dual core processor more RAM and some cameras then I don't see myself buying it. I'll wait for v3.

I'm not insensitive to the point you're making, but the reality is the iPad will get updated. Whether its a month or two months from Valentine's Day, it's happening. Apple will want to tell people about it.

No one is saying it won't get updated. The chances of it getting announced right after their Valentines day advertising however, isn't so believable. The original rumors of the iPad 2's release was April which was and still is the most believable rumor that makes the most sense.

I don't know. Apple advertises and sells all its products right up until their refresh/redesign. With that said, I agree that April is the most likely timeframe for the next iPad. But an announcement event could happen by the end of this month.

It would have to be available immediately after announcement, otherwise they're shooting themselves in the foot and missing out on a month worth of iPad sales.

An announcement at the end of February will leave a month of poor sales for March. What people should be expecting is a week difference between the announcement at the very most.
