Too bad fandroids don't realize their device is trying to beat an 1 year old Apple device. Of course iPad 2 smokes the wann-bee device. ;)

Well to be fair the Xoom was tested at a much higher resolution so these tests should be taken with a grain of salt. To say the ipad GPU is 3.7 times faster than the Xooms is innacurrate..

Apple fanboys have said that specs don't matter. Now they do? It seems to me they only say this when they know it should be more.

Hey, listen, gpu performancet is a spec for a lot of people, but for apple, gnu performance is part of the experience equation... Do you see this point?

That is ok, I did not think you would...

I detect some slight jealousy. Why, because you can't afford one yourself? Trying to convince yourself how "crappy" this product is.

Ya, right.

I had the iPhone 4 and the original iPad. I got tired of a fragile product, iPhone 4, I broke it twice, broke the glass. The iPad, it had a dark spot on the right side of the screen that Apple would not fix. I do not mind spending money on a quality product. The Mac Pro I have is over 4 years old and going strong. I am not a fanboy that says everything Apple makes is great. I wanted a 13 inch Macbook Pro, but with a MATTE screen, did they come out with it, NO, I had to settle for a crappy Thinkpad, so NO GLARE. I work in enviroments that produce a lot of GLARE in screens, to the point of washing out the screen.

I can afford it!

Here's another benchmark:

iPad: 65,000 apps
Xoom: 100 apps

Hardware specs are irrelevant without software to run on them.

This means way too much to some of you guys. You need to find a football team or something.

But, but, after reading thousands of comments from Engadget, I thought the Xoom is so much more superior even compared to the iPad 2?

Did I become dumber after reading all those comments on Engadget?

Seriously now - does anyone else think that the comments on Engadget are even worse in terms of quality compared to the comments that you read in YouTube?

Agreed, it feels like if the MS fanboys have become Android fanboys. They just don't like apples.

It isn't a much higher resolution, it's 29% greater. Epic maths fail. If you want to play it that way, that benchmark hasn't had time to have been optimised for iPad 2 hardware, unlike the Xoom; that has a FAR greater effect on framerate, since that's one of the ways Apple gets such a huge amount of performance out of their hardware. They optimise the crap out of it (and don't try to discredit me, I'm a comp science and physics major).

So while I wait for my iPad 2 to show up from my online order, I decided to rent (aka 45 day return policy at Best Buy) a Xoom to see what exactly all the talk was about by the Android faithful. After a couple of days I can say it's a decent tablet, and I'm not experiencing the issues I had with the Evo my work issued me. I will never buy another HTC pc of crap after that experience, and the hardware issues didn't make the OS look any better either. BUT...

Things I do enjoy about Honeycomb, the stock browser has a very useful contextual menu system that is activated by a simple swipe from either side of the screen. All your basic navigation controls are there, very smooth web surfing, smooth app transitions and overall I was a bit surprised how well it is running. Even on the Evo I had more issues in the first 48 hours than I have in a few years with my iPhone. That's not opinion, just fact based on my history with the iPhone.

Honeycomb however is not without it's flaws, in the first 48 hours I've reset the Xoom once, had it lockup/pause for 2 or 3 mins twice and prior to the latest firmware update late last night Youtube app was having some playback issues in the form of a stutter in the first 30 seconds of playing a video. Not all but probably 30 to 40% of what I was playing would stutter. On the flip side with my iPad (1) Youtube blew chunks as every Wifi device in my house would load Youtube very fast and the iPad had some serious issues, wifi or software, I don't know, but hated it.

The Xoom's screen ratio is nice for movies, but it does feel outta wack in portrait mode, but then again that is likely because I'm so used to the past 9 months with an iPad. The overall feel of Andriod 3.0 did suprise me as I've used a varity of phones since our work switched over to Sprint from VZW (why I'll never know) and we went with the various Android based phones. The Evo's seem to have the fewest issues, Epics seem to be ok, but the other "free/cheaper" phones are total junk. Lock ups, won't release calls, random actions when trying to type etc.. and so on. I can't believe how bad they run.

I have to mention, as it's probably the funniest thing I keep running into is when I surf over to say Fox.com or what I think it going to be a "flash" based site on the Xoom and get a grey box that says "This device does not support HTML5" lol I"m like WTH... that didn't take long. Rather ironic after all the heated debates about Flash.

Bottom line, there are some cool features I really wish the iPad had available, such as a totally customizable browser, Google voice/search is simply awesome and accurate. The built in micro HDMI is very handy as I will be using that damn adapter from Apple when I Slingbox my TV to the work TV as we don't have cable there and I always enjoy keeping up with the Golf tourney's and the NCAA tourney this month. That will be very cool to at least have the option, just wish it was built in. At least I get to mess around with something while I wait!

I got my iPad *15 days before iPad 2 was announced...

And it's already feeling outdated.

I bet it's not ;) Benchmarks are always fun to look at, but what do they REALLY mean to what you do? Probably very little. Just like those fancy DX11 video cards. Yeah, everybody loves them, talks them up ... too bad there are almost no games that actually make use of them. (well, maybe that is changed today, I am referring to when they hit the streets and ATI fans were crowing about NVIDIA missing the boat).

Besides, I got you beat  I bought my used 16 gb + 3G 5 days before iP2's hit the streets. It was a tough call. I still get the urge to pull out the credit card for an iP2. But at almost $250.00 cheaper than a 3G retail unit ($120 cheaper than a wifi unit) for a 16 GB, I'll live. It does what I need it to do. Maybe I'll impulse buy a 16 GB wifi iP2 sometime in the summer when I can't get this one away from the kids. For now, I'm stoked with my iPad 1 and am enjoying it along with those who are loving their 2's. It's all good :p

As of ATI 5000 series release, DX11 games were: AVP, BF BC2, Metro 2033, Dirt 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, H.A.W.X. 2, all AAA titles which a LOT of people play. Also, as someone that has owned both ATI and NVidia cards, ATI was and still is (since the 4000 series) eating NVidia alive in every market.

Don't worry, in a few months, they will meet or exceed the abilities of the new iPad.

Seriously, do you not have a life? You come up with these sweeping unsubstantiated statements which at best can be called opinion (most reasonable people would call them trolling), and then expect people to take you seriously? You're not making anyone rage, you're just showing people that you're a moron with too much free time on his hands because he doesn't have anything worth doing with his life. I'm pretty sure that's an accurate summation right there.

Agreed, it feels like if the MS fanboys have become Android fanboys. They just don't like apples.

The MS fanboys got so used to everybody seeking out their hard-earned (and I do mean hard) expertise, that they feel their self-esteem threatened by the growing popularity of easier-to-use alternatives. The Open and Free Software Linux geeks who become Android geeks have some misguided perception that the Android ecosystem is somehow more "open" than Apple's. If you analyze the way they use the word "open" you'll find it's nothing but a meaningless buzzword, but let them both have their preferences—eventually some of them may even come around.

The true howler monkeys from the Engadget comments and so forth, though (and some of them leak over onto here occasionally): In their case I'm afraid we're looking at some kind of disorder. I suspect a lot of them are on the ASD spectrum to some degree or another. They are literally incapable of appreciating or even perceiving aesthetic differences or elegance of design. Spec numbers in a column make them feel good—they can tell when one number is larger than another. Hallelujah! They're able to make evaluations the only way they can. If anyone points out aesthetics or superior design, it does nothing but anger them. Imagine you were colorblind, and everything in the world was color-coded like resistors are (Used to be?)

Also, they don't mind going through complicated and meaningless rituals to get things done—in fact, it probably comforts them. All in all, I can sympathize with their discomfort, but that doesn't make their spittle-flecked tirades any more enjoyable.
