Yeah, lunchtime on SATURDAY, at ONE particular store that will have stock.

What I mean is - call in at a local store (i.e. vodafone or Carphone Warehouse) - they will know what delivery they've had by 12/1pm on Friday. They may only have 1 or 2 iPads. but if they have the one you want... why not wait and get it from there, where as if you queue somewhere else - you may not get it?!

if they don't have the one you want, obviously go to Regents Street and let me queue in Covent Garden in peace!

Was considering Kingston store, or maybe Westfield. I'm still undecided. Anyone with experience in this area - help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm also deciding between these 2 stores. The Westfeild one is oretty massive, especially when compared to Kingston so i'm expecting them to have more stock.

I phoned them and the person said they are unsure about stock untill tomorrow but said if you come a couple of hours early, you should be OK. Don't know how she came to that assesment if she doesn't know stock levels.

Anybody know what Westfeild was like for the Ipad 1 or Iphone 4 launch?

For whatever it's worth, last night I individually spoke to a number of the friendly staffers at Westfield who all told me basically the same thing:

-- Launch at 5pm.
-- As in previous launches (iPad, iPhone 4) they expect to get a rather limited supply, which the bulk of the devices going to Covent and Regent.
-- They do expect a line, of course, but they told me that a better bet is to go to the flagship stores in the morning—these stores will have the largest stock in Europe.

Hope this helps!

Finish work at 5pm and might pop into kingston (only in teddington) what do you reckon the odds are of managing to get one late night? Maybe from John Lewis, comet, pc world and apple all in Kingston?

Haven't thought about it yet.

Still planning to hunt around local stores first at lunchtime to see if they'll have any for sale, before heading to an apple store (either CG/RS or Brent Cross).

If I do head there around 2pm ish - might grab a chair on the way!

heading over to westfield around 9:30am on friday. Meeting up with a forum member who plans to get there for just before 9am. Hopefully we'll be near the front of the queue.

I'm worried it might run out of stock in westfield :(

Having asked around - I too am worried, but that's the power of the Apple marketing machine. Hype up the fact that there is "limited stock" and get people queueing earlier and earlier.

Nothing like free marketing of scores of people queueing outside your stores to get your latest tech.

We'll just have to do the best we can - and call / visit as many 3rd party retailers as possible on the way to an apple store.

Anyone going to Brent Cross? or as it's smaller than westfield - should I head to WF or Covent Garden?!

Nick

nobody go to covent garden

i dont want you all infront of me in the queue, i cant get there till after lunch!

Apple does have an incredible marketing machine, but they are not creating an artificial demand. It's a product that is in incredible demand for what it is, period. And even if stores had 10,000 each, there would still be a line full of early adopters. Me included!

In any case, the more I talk to the staff at Westfield, the more I want to go to a larger store. They said that Covent and Regent are bringing in tons of extra staff so the line should move quickly. They've all said that in the last few launches at Westfield there were a lot of disappointed people because the supplies were limited ... so kind of on the fence about going there. Hmmm.

So a quick poll for everyone..

Where are you going and what time are you getting there?

I may see you there. I'm going to ring around local retailers at 1pm and if they don't have what I'm looking for - I'm going to head to CG or RS.

Thinking of staying up and try to order online. Then if we manage to get one just cancel the order.

We now looking to go a bit earlier seeing as some people are thinking of queuing from noon onwards...

I presume she based her predictions on what iPad 1 launch was like. And where they say 'dont know stock levels' if you get the right person (a manager of something) i'm sure they mean 'not telling you stock levels'

I was also considering Kingston as I go uni there and for some reason I can't see it being that packed, a lot of students who cannot afford it and or don't care about it is what I'm hoping for!

Hahahaha - there are a LOT of none students local to Kingston. Did you see the queues there for the iphone4?!

what about the que for the iphone 4 at covent garden?

you can't really say anything about them, the majority of them were scalpers trying to score some cash by buying and selling abroad! when i went to buy my ip4 from there, i saw the manager telling people to get out of the queue because he recognised them and refused to sell to them as they'd already purchased 2 iphones the previous day!

Decided to stay away from Apple stores on Friday, after iphone 4 release at Regent Street. Was there for 6 1/2 hours and I had reserved them. Was chaotic.

Have been doing some digging with local retailers.

Argos Extra Old kent road will have them in, have been assured by the manager who is a mate.

PC World Old kent road has an Apple store, manager there took my name and said he'll call on Friday morning.

Comet Old kent road, again store manager is a mate, said their delivery will be thursday evening or early Friday morning and he'll guarantee me the 2 I need.

There is also a Currys on Old kent road, not sure if they are getting any.

Hope this might help some peeps. :):)

I'll be at Covent Garden... very early. Won't get a chair or a cushion, I can stand like a heeero~ :D
Will be in Central London at 8 AM already and see if there are many people queuing. I could also post an update here how it looks (with a photo?) when I get there, if you guys are interested?
