I use one to read comics every night with Cloudreaders app, only needs to charge once a month or so. Chokes on 400+MB cbz or cbr files, but that’s usually not an issue.

I still use an iPad 1 everyday, but then I'm an Apple user in the traditional sense, not in the current trendy sense. Indeed, I tend to believe current trendy Apple users would say I shouldn't use an iPad 1 because it's unsecure, blah, blah, blah, and kitten will die.

Battery on my iPad 2 is still good. Purchased on the first day they were released and has had plenty of use over the years (more sporadic use now days, but going weeks/months without being charged doesn't seem to have hurt it)
Pretty good. As e-reader it's still very good, when using for the game I referenced (Panzer Corps) it drains much more quickly (obviously), but surprisingly good performance given its age imho. I don't use it a ton and had not used it all for about 2 years until 6 months ago when I found it during lockdown. I'd say it and the 2014 MBP I'm typing this on have been the best Apple products longevity-wise that I've owned.

If the battery survives so well 10 years later why are people so worked up about ios devices battery life and how to prolong its life with apps and smart charging methods

If it works for you that’s fantastic. I still occasionally use a Compaq laptop I bought in 2004 to play Sims 1. It also plays DVDs. I don’t use it connected to the internet. And I still have a 2011 MacBook Pro I got on sale as the 2012’s were coming out. It’s also running Sims games on a Windows partition and plays DVDs. I don’t need to upgrade these machines because they still suit their primary function I used them for when they were new. Everything else I need to do, I do on my phones that I do keep updated.

My dad still uses the iPad 2 to play Candy Crush. I tell him to stop using it but he doesn’t listen. Oh well it still works and luckily he has a 2020 iPad Pro.

It depends a lot on the device. iPhone batteries are smaller tend to get worked a lot harder than iPads (a full charge/discharge cycle every day, sometimes more). Pretty much all the iPhones I've owned have needed a battery replacement eventually, but none of the iPads have.

Oh man, I picked the wrong week to put mine up for sale on eBay, didn't I?

I will say, I found it in a drawer... it's been there for about a year and a half. Maybe 2 years. Turned it on and it had 53% battery left.
I just brought mine out of the drawer as well, after years..it still had a charge LOL.. forgot the password and locked it up. Reset it and cant download any apps because of the software!

As well as still being able to handle music apps, I enjoy playing Carmageddon on my iPad 2 - and - compared to more modern iPads (the ‘traditional’ design with the forehead, chin and home button), the 2 is built like a tank ?

Still using mine, for most things - it’s amazing - and definitely all streaming services….it’s probably been one the best gifts I ever received. Battery life is waning a little, but that’s really my only complaint. Can’t imagine replacing it, although I suppose it’s on the cards in the next 12-18 months. The only thing it really needs is a new case.
