Anyone know about Best Buy's? I'm assuming there is absolutely nothing if Apple stores are getting next to nothing.
I arrived at Fashion Island today at 4:15am. Found around 20 chairs in front of the Apple Store but there was no one there, so I thought people were cheating by saving the spot and going back home. Then the security guard came and told us no loitering in the mall, and to come back to the line at 6:00am. So I left a bag and some clothes to save the spot just as the others did. Fortunately, Starbucks was open already and we didn't have to wait outside in the cold for too long.
Came back to the line at 5:45am to find out that my bag was 22nd in the line. Apple guys started giving tickets around 8am and I was the first in line not getting oneThey got around 40-45 units but people were greedy today and everyone bought two iPads. And there was this ******** guy messing around, convincing people to buy 2 units, trying to buy spots, tickets and iPads for a ridiculous premium ($50). I had the chance to buy the very last iPad, a 16GB Verizon White but I was looking for a Wi-Fi only version so I let the guy behind of me to go ahead and buy that last one.
As always, no way to know if the are gonna receive anything, they get blank shipments and all that story from the Apple employees. In short: experience not worth repeating.
As someone wrote above, best thing you can do is just order online and be patient![]()
Was there anyone behind your bag indicating people actually respected items that were left as placeholders?
So I finally got my iPad 2 today, but it took flying to Washington State to do it. I had the Apple store near my hotel, so I got up at 5:30 and was at the mall by 6:00am. Much to my surprise, there were already 27 people waiting when I got there. Anyway, the store I went to got a shipment of about 70+ iPads. They had all variety of Verizon in white, plus white and black 16GB wifi models. In front of me were a group of 5 Japanese that bought 10 iPads for resale, argh. I knew I was hosed. When I finally got to the front of the line, they had one black 16 wifi left and I went to take it, but was informed that someone in line ahead of me changed their mind and got the last one. Damn. Anyway, after three hours, I wasn't walking away empty handed again and I picked up a white 32 Verizon model. I really wanted black and AT&T or wifi, but after playing with it all day, the white one seems totally fine. Still not sure I am sold on Verizon (but if I keep it, between my pad and phone, I should have data anywhere), but we'll see how it is over the next two weeks. At least I won't see you guys tomorrow morning.

Are there any other people with you?
My gf was at Spectrum this morning around 4:15a and encountered ~20 people in line already. She was looking to buy 16gb wifi, we were going to settle with 32gb wifi, but those all dried up by the time it got to her. She had the option to buy 32gb Verizon but passed on it. They were limiting purchases to 1 per person, fyi.
I'm going to continue monitoring Target stock, but screw standing in line.
Have been monitoring target nonstop since Wednesday and I have not seen one store get any inventory of 32 black wifi. So annoying.
WOW! I was there on Wednesday. I got there at 6:45 and I was 13th in line. The guy who was first, was there at 4:30. I can't believe 4:15 got you 22nd.
Did they only have Verizon again?

According to twitter, there are some white 16g at the "target in the marketplace in irvine". Too bad I'm aiming for a black one
My girlfriend and I were able to score two white 16 gb WiFi's at Target (in Santa Ana) today. We were monitoring the Target stock using these links, and saw it pop up as available. High-tailed it there and swooped 2 up. Two other people came in and bought one-each while we were there. All within ~30 minutes of first seeing the stock change online. When we left there was 1 iPad left. I think they also had some 3g's, but I'm not sure.
Absolute insanity in terms of how fast they were gone and how quickly we descended on the store, with others doing the exact same.
The online inventory said they were sold out ~1 hr after we left (but it may have taken time for the last iPad to get sold, so this bodes well for people using online Target inventory to direct their search. Seems very accurate.)
The only way to "monitor stock" is to go to the store. The online page is unreliable.
FYI, no more AT&T models for a few weeks. All stores in the area haven't had in for a few days it seems.
As online shipping times keep slipping, unless Apple puts up an inventory tracker this is only going to get worse. People are beginning to camp out the night before now, where before they would just get there at 5AM.
