Did you go to Apple? As it doesnt look like you have.

Just go make a genius appointment rather that waste time emailing.

If they can't help you then use the orange network to access the small claims website and start a claim ;)

By the way that article you guys linked was exactly what happened to me. Got the iPad from phones4u and it was locked. Apple gave me a new unlocked iPad to sort it out.

Is your new iPad in 100% working order does it have any light leak from the screen when you have a black screen in a dark room? If it does have this fault you should make a genius appointment and get it swapped over. This is a legitimate fault with the iPad at the moment and from what I can gather they are exchanging straight away you would be given an unlocked replacement solving the situation.

This is just an idea if you have an apple store nearby.

I hope you get it resolved soon Orange makes me so angry I was a customer of there's for 10 years until they started to become impossible to deal with the customer service is the worst in the industry!

Good luck

I hope this gets resolved because Orange can't get away with what they did to you - I have also had an issue with Orange recently. My mobile no longer works through no fault of my own, and even though it is still under Orange warranty, I got no help from them at all. I visited 2 stores and called the customer service line only to get the same response. Sorry, we can't help you. Useless! I sent it back to the manufacturer to get it repaired.

Now been to apple and spoke with a genius and store manager.

Result....... No joy. Nothing apple can do to help as it is he carrier who locked my device. I have to address with them. :-(

interesting how this can happen and when it does orange just doesn't back down. They are getting so much grief why not just accept that they got it wrong.

Hold up! Only Vodafone UK are selling the 64Gb 3G iPad 2, so how has Orange managed to lock the one mentioned in this article??

@Gavcur - post the Wigglesworth email address on here and we'll bombared her with emails until she gives in ;-)

Or try emailing Tom again. He'll wonder why she hasn't sorted it sooner, and he'll be like "dude, it's less than £600 and not worth our time. Give the guy a refund" LOL

(or at least that should be his attitude)

Only got their generic email for the executive office
mailto:executive.office@everythingeverywhere.com

Fill ur boots. ;-)

I don't even really want a refund. Just the damn thing unlocked so I don't have to use with orange. Would cost them nothing to sort!!!

Dear Tom,

Many thanks for your email, it has proved to be most useful in my conversations.
Can you supply me with the IMEI number of your iPad please as this is going to be required to get the iPad unlocked?
You can find this out by going into SETTINGS, GENERAL then ABOUT.
The IMEI number can be found towards the bottom of the resulting screen.

Please rest assured that we're working to get this done for you asap and will keep you updated.

Thanks

Dear Simon,

As a summary I have purchased an iPad 2 3G at full RRP (So the iPad 2 32GB WiFi+3G fully belongs to me and has NOT been subsidised by Orange UK) and without a contract. As per every other outlet and carrier in the country I had assumed this would be unlocked. In fact, I even confirmed this with your in store staff (I was told my Vodafone SIM would work).

Since then, as you know I have established the SIM is locked and now unless I sign a contract with Orange it can never be unlocked. Therefore the iPad is not fit for purpose and I was mis-sold.

I don't want a refund, I would like my iPad unlocked.

In addition, having reviewed the Internet there is significant disquiet in the market about Orange's unique policy and many mentions of customers looking to report Orange to their local Trading Standards and the Office of Fair Trading as well as BBCs Watchdog.

I look forward to a prompt response from your service delivery and expect them to change their policy and thus unlock my iPad 2.

Yours

Tom

And
I think it'll be highly unlikely that Simon Quick will be able to obtain the unlock code for you. As mentioned previously, he will take the device details (Mobile Number, IMEI, etc.) and pass them internally to the Handset Unlocking Team. They are not customer facing, and are VERY strict on company policies. Therefore if Orange wants you to stay connected for three months, they too will not budge on the three month rule.

Good luck, but I think badgering Wigglesworth and Tom Alexander are going to be more fruitful, if at all.

If there is an angle to try I will try you just never know.

The email address for The CEO Tom Alexander was where wigglesworth picked up as she apparently acts for him???? Yeah right. She really needs to go to some customer service inputs!!!

Just start a claim in the small claims. I linked a web address.

I bet you that they will be more reasonable when that happens and remember if they think it's pointless to turn up you would win by default.

So it's almost better that way!

That's the plan now. Will give them the 7 days to comply though in the first instances in my endeavour to be REASONABLE.

Hopefully watchdog will get interested as it is pretty topical and new at the moment.

Chances are they won't though but I will try to get as much publicity out as I can so no other poor bugger gets conned at the hands of Orange.

Shame on you orange.

How can you wait any days?

Just start the claim. They have told you they won't do it for you.

You have been reasonable. You can always stop a claim if they magically change their mind but in the meantime just start the claim!

It's only till Monday. Will take me till then to sort out the paperwork for the court. It's a little different as I am in Scotland. I can't do it all online. Still old school I'm afraid. At least I can download the paper work and complete now though.

I have also since learned that I can get legal assistance via a fund that I pay into at my work that will cost me nothing. Result. Spoke to them and I have done what they would recommend thus far. I have to recontact them Monday with a view to them helping sort out the case.

Hi Tom,
*
Many thanks for the details, this has been passed on to the Service Design team.
I've had confirmation that until this gets resolved with a new process, we're looking to get these unlocked by exception and I'm just waiting on the details of how we get this done.
Thank for being so patient and I'll ensure you're kept up to date on progress with the equipment being unlocked as soon as possible.
*
Please note that this is my last day in the office as I work a 3 on / 3 off shift operating from 10:00 till 22:00.
I'm due to be back in the office on 06/04/11. Over the next three days I'm asking my opposite number (Donald Wing) to keep you informed on progress.
Realistically as the SD team aren't in on Sunday,*I'm not expecting an update from them until Monday, but either way I'll get another update out to you on Monday.
*
I'm sorry for the delay in getting this resolved for you, but please rest assured that your issue has my focus and teh correct people are engaged in sorting it out for you.
*
Thanks
Simon Quick
