Plus let's think about these rumor. If a 'high end' iPad 2 came out with a retina type display which would retail at a premium over the top of the line 64+3G (so $900) where would that leave the iPad HD or the iPad 3;

Because
1) the iPad HD would only exist for 3-4 months before
2) iPad 3 releases in Spring 2012 with Retina Display, alongside undoubted CPU, possibly quad core SGX543 (same as the PSVita) and 1gb Mem upgrade - across the board starting at $499 (Making the iPad HD very overpriced and utterly redundant and dead in the water only 1/4 ways into a year).

It just is not going to happen pure and simple.

I flipping hate em. Don't even want to know about them. I really hope the iPad 3 doesn't come out till next year. I don't want my baby to be outdated this fast.

Its the same thing for most people, and honestly i dont think apple would do it. It would surprise a lot of people if they did , tho.

The thing is that if Apple does indeed release this iPad 2 HD with the retina display at premium prices & those sell very well, then what are the odds that Apple would not continue with such differentiation by releasing both iPad 3 (regular resolution screens like the ones currently being offered) & iPad 3 HD (with retina display)? Just imagine the "easy" extra money those iPad 3 HD sales would bring in for Apple!

Well it would be nice, but I think I'll just sit back and enjoy what I have already, and maybe in a year or 2 when I feel that my iPad 2 is outdated, then maybe I will buy whatever is available. People worry too much about what might be released just enjoy what you have, there will always be a better faster toy on the horizon.

Buyers remorse is a terrible thing, and leads to ulcers.

The problem with electronis is whats hot today will be out dated tomorrow.
So just enjoy what you have and when the need arrives for something new then buy it.

Poor Apple:

A) They don't release products fast enough -- OMG, this is terrible, the industry is lapping them!

B) They release products too fast -- OMG, this is terrible, my product is out of date, I hate you, Apple!

I'm using my original iPad and still love it. I cannot understand those who think their products are worthless when a new one comes out. There are issues there that make you feel inadequate.

NO NEW IPAD TIL NEXT YEAR! Stop kidding yourselves.

Did anyone listen to or read the transcript of Apple's Earning Call yesterday? Because they specifically mentioned their revenue next quarter would be affected by a "product transition" - meaning the new iPhone.

Apple still is in a position where they are trying to bring supply and demand for iPad 2 into alignment. In other words, they've ramped up production to the point where delivery times on some iPad skus are down to a day or two.

Why on earth would they put their entire production, distribution, and retail channel through the upheaval of announcing a new iPad this fall? Right before the holiday season where they (rightly) believe they have the opportunity to sell tens of millions of the things?

"Product Transition" time is a very tricky issue for technology company like Apple. As soon as a new product is announced, it puts an automatic dampener on sales of existing products (for obvious reasons.) Companies have to manage the announcement so it is close enough to the planned sale date that they don't kill an entire quarter's results. They also have to predict how strong demand is going to be, so they don't end up with warehouses filled with unwanted merchandise (hello, Playbook.) On the other hand, if they don't make enough to meet demand - you end up with hordes of scalpers sleeping outside your retail stores.

Apple has its plate full of upcoming developments. Not just the new iPhone, but also iCloud, iOS 5, and (possibly) some sort of entrant into the prepaid phone market (see transcript of earnings call for more details.)

Apple is in business to sell products - not cater to the whims of internet forum trogolodytes.

I may end up being wrong (not likely) but there's no way Apple will have a HD display of the type people are discussing here in their next iPad refresh in early 2012 and still maintain their current pricing. If the "HD" iPad appears this year it will be the only "HD" model until 2013.

You can't add an improved processor, "HD" display and better battery and maintain a $499 price point. Just won't happen in 2012.

If they come out with HD, I won't buy as this screen resolution is more than enough, but there is a market for retina display. I just won't buy it, but I really don't care if they release it.
I'll just wait for the upgrated specs in iPad3 :)

I second that, and I just picked up my iPad 2 a few days ago, it makes me mad...

You picked up your iPad 2 knowing a new iPad 2+/3 may be right around the corner, then you come in here to say you're mad? I have a solution... don't be mad! Enjoy your iPad 2. Does it no longer function simply because of a rumor? Will it stop working when a new iPad comes out? And why does this elicit an emotional reaction in you? Confused.

Also, if you know a new iPad may be only 2 months away, it seems a little silly to buy an iPad 2 now. It sounds like you made yourself mad. And before all of you start throwing arguments at me like "if you need it now, but it now", for the vast majority of consumers the iPad is a WANT, not a NEED. In that respect, why the rush?

Oh and here's another solution you may wish to consider. You're within your return window. So go and return your iPad and wait for the new one. Life is too short to spend it being mad. So are you going to return it or do you prefer staying "mad"? :D

I think its awesome. I just hope its not super expensive when it comes out. If its worth upgrading, just sell the old one, buy the new one. Done & done. :)

There is no such thing as an iPad "Pro". The word "pro" and "iPad" are oxymorons. If there is a new iPad in the 3rd quarter, it's going to replace the current line-up and at current price points. The existing iPad 2 will continue to be sold, but at a reduced price.

There is no such thing as a "pro" market for iPad. That's like saying you could do "pro" work on a Commodore 64 compared to the real computers available at the time.

Any new iPad will minimally need a retina display, improved cameras and more RAM. This will make iPad competitive with other tablets on technical specifications.

All this guessing at what the new iPad will or won't be, and when it will appear, based on such flimsy and questionable evidence...

I'll be bothered only when I know what features the new iPad will have that I want and don'y already have, and when it will be on the market. As and when it becomes clear that it can do things I want an iPad to do that my existing one can't, then I'll join the months-long queue for a new one. Until then, I couldn't care less what the rumours say.

Anger only destroys your own peace of mind. Anger will not change the person or thing it is directed at.

This is technology we are discussing. It is constantly changing. Live with it or don't buy it. ;)

My thoughts are that September will come and go, with no iPad. I haven't seen a credible source yet. It isn't happening.

BUT, if by some amazing feat, it does happen, I have a 90 day return policy on my iPad 2, which conveniently ends in September, so I can always upgrade

Im staying mad bc I still have the devices in my sig. And if a new model comes out look for the sig. to grow, I'm currently looking at getting a Transformer as well...

I've had mine a little over a month now and enjoy it. I won't lie.

I'd be a little miffed if they release a retina screen & more memory base unit model because I would have waited. That would definite hold me over a few years as I'm not one to update things every year.

If it's a $1000 unit well I wouldn't have bought that anyway.

Still happy with my purchase.

If they released the iPad HD (or whatever) as an additional product, it would stay that way for at least the next update cycle. Don't fool yourself thinking otherwise.

yeah its like making a iPad pro line.

I know some people who really believe the iPad HD or whatever will be released in the winter. but honestly with the supply and demand in apples favor they would only hurt themselves if they did release the ipad 3 so soon. Plus by then the new iPhone would have been released, then apple products would be competing with each other. the iPhone and iPad are powerhouses alone and should not be mixed together, separate, keeps people happy and time to recover.

Also apple always needs some new gimmick for their new device that makes you really really want it and need it. The non-HD screen is probably the biggest argument I can see apple have

Makes no sense when the current model is so far ahead of any competitor. Releasing a new model this early when the iPad 2 is still selling like hotcakes would be dumb!

On the other hand I'd be thrilled. It just means that when I am ready to upgrage, the new product will be all the more. Progess is always good.

Why the drama?

Get real...any piece of electronics or software you buy is obsolete the moment you take it home.

I bought my 64GB iPad2 in June and love it. It won't love it any less when they come out with the iPad3 -- no matter what features it offers.

I don't buy a new iPhone/iPod/iPad every time the come out with a new model as I don't see the need to. But I'm always pleased to have Apple update stuff knowing that when I do update I will get even more bang for my dollar.

The only people I ever feel sorry for are those clueless folks that buy the old model right before it is retired. And Apple has always taken care of those folks.
