When iPad came out, I decided I was more than happy to make do with my 3 Macs, including a 12" iBook for portable needs under varying lighting conditions. However, if the anti-reflective iPad rumour is true, Apple will have another iPad customer here.

Should also save me having to buy a Kindle for reading on the go. Just the wait now until things are confirmed either way.

If "thinner" also brings with it "lighter" then booya. If not then it's nothing more than a strip tease. Aw, who am I kidding, I'll be trading in my iPad for iPad 2 regardless.

Why is what we already have never good enough

I see no reason to whine, gripe, and complain. If you have the money and you want the newer one "go and get it". Otherwise I am doing fine with my 2008 mackbook (2.4 ghz, 250 gb hd, 2gb ram) - my only upgrade need is RAM. I got around the hard drive space issue with adding an external drive. And when/if MS ever comes out with OneNote for the Mac, I personally will have no need to run a virtual machine.

I still have a 3G iphone (not 3Gs). It was my first iphone and still does well. I only bought the ipad when it first came out, due to needing something more portable than a laptop and a bigger screen than my iphone. I have no plans on upgrading to the new ipad. Everything works just great. My only beef is the developers who still have not made an ipad optimized version of their app.

FACEBOOK for one - long overdue....

Would I want a rear facing camera on an ipad? why? that size device is too big to take pictures with. Front facing would be nice for facetime/video chatting - but not a real deal breaker for me.

My real gripe is with people who complain they can't work with their equipment, it is 10 years old (or more) and clearly lived it's life (and they have the money) but still won't upgrade. Other than that, I say - if it still works, does not truely hinder you, then why upgrade at every release.

I only plan on upgrading when the device no longer works.....

So, if we were to have it all, we'd have....

Thinner, lighter, better screen resolution, anti-glare, more memory (1gb best), two camera's like the iPhone4, USB or MicoSD connector, better processor - duel core, gyroscope, and all starting at $399. Right? :D

A solitary voice of sanity in the clamor. I agree with you but your voice will probably not be heard. Rest assured at least one person agrees with you. :apple:

I have wanted an iPad and I'm going with the 2nd gen! I love that it should have dual core! I wish it would have more RAM to surpass the iPhone 4.

You honestly think the iPad2 will be thinner than an iPhone 4 ?

Possibly! If it is not, then I don't see any reason why the iPhone 4 cameras will not fit...just taking a guess here....I believe that the edges of the iPad are thinner than the iPhone (not at home, so I'm not 100%). If the iPad 2 will be flat, my guess is that they are trying to keep the edge thinness of the original throughout the entire unit...

My biggest question still remains; will it have wings?

Thanks. In fact, I am looking for an older / low price mac mini (but it is not a high priority item). All I want it for is Front Row. Plan on hooking it to my TV. I would use the one I have now - except it is my wife's computer. She would not be too happy if I took it from her....

I can't see paying the price they are charging for the new ones. Plus my TV is not internet ready. I can get buy with using the VGA port and not the HDMI ones.

And the only reason I got a flat panel TV was because of the switch from analog to digital. My TV worked fine - but I heard the converters were 50% at best. I do not have Satellite nor cable. Can't see paying $100 / month for channels I do not even watch.

I am excited about the specks!

I am very excited about the specks! Please... SD card slot!
I really don't need a camera on the iPad...especially when many companies don't allow cameras at their facility.
This is on par with the Android & BB Playbook competing models. Apple needs to keep the cost competitive. Hi Res screen means greater battery CPU/drain and much more expense.
They also need to improve their MobileMe cloud service...to attract business.

Well, if any of this is true. It means apple is confident enough with it's hold on the tablet market not to make any real changes. Which means we won't see a retina display ipad until the third Generation. It would kind of suck but this is how the game is played.

Yes...because the iPad is slow with its current single core...

Dual Core is 100% pointless given that the current CPU handles everything fine, showing no slowdown or lag. Another pointless upgrade to sell it to the idiot who thinks it'll be faster.

Are the "idiots" really the ones who think a dual core A9 @ 1.2GHZ won't be faster than a single core A8 @ 1 GHZ? :)

Just because the iPad isn't "slow" with its current CPU doesn't mean it can't do more with a faster one. Software is designed "down" to the power the device has. If it has more power, things can scale up- games can have better graphics, audio apps can process more simultaneous tracks and effects, graphics applications can apply higher quality filters, web pages can render faster. Surprised that really needs explaining in 2011...

Agree!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's not about making it thinner, it's about making it lighter. If you got to look at a consumer survey of people who bought a nook or kindle over an ipad, the ipad's weight, screen glare and price would almost certainly top the list of strikes against it.

agree!!!!!!!!!!!!

How fast is the search algorithm in your real books? :p

:D:p I like that. and hey real books don't crash. They may not be portable (if you need more than one), but they work in a power failure; don't rely on batteries; and you don't get questions or stopped for them at airport security.

The problem is not faster search algorithms. to me the problem is better ones. Ones that recognize handwriting as well as typed text, you have a choice or not on matching case. The other problem with electronic books (and I know I/T professionals who don't back up). One hard drive crash or scratched CD/DVD and you lost 100's of books.

A trillion rumors about the iPad 2.0 but...

I got an email last night from Apple stating to buy the iPad for a Valentine's Day gift.

If Apple is still pitching the 1.0 for 2/14 I would have to believe that the 2.0 iPad won't be out till June...soooo many people would be ticked off if they got an iPad in the month of Feb and a new one came out in March or April or even May.

I guess we'll see.

I'm really surprised this Apple/iPad/iPhone will be crushed by the competition attitude is so prevalent even on a Mac site like this.

In order for Apple to be successful they have to actually PROVE it and sell millions of devices. And in the case of the iPad they sold about 5x the average thought by analysts.

In order for the competition to destroy Apple's success in the typical geeks mind all they have to do is... announce some hardware specs 4/6/9 months in advance.

No one seems to wake up and see that the amazing specs and Apple-esque coat of paint their competitors put on these days is little more than a fragile facade that turns out to be the usual crap at closer inspection.

This, this, this!

How thin & light do you guys want the iPad? As thin and light as a piece of paper?

and with wings:)

What a bunch of whining. It doesn't have this, doesn't have that.
All based on rumors.

Millions of ipads 1st gen sold AND it didn't have this and didn't have that!

Features demanded by people who have absolutely no clue about technical issues being faced depending on the requested feature.

And yes, can it be for $ 10 please?

Just don't buy one if it doesn't meet your standards. Still a free country!
