Have you tried reading a book on it?

Have you tried reading a scanned legal or A4 sheet of paper on it?

Devices like the iPad promise a lot in reducing reliance on paper. At the moment it's just too low resolution to do this though.

Nonsense. I read on my iPad every day as do 10's of thousands of other people. the screen is great as it is. Sure, it would be great to have higher resolution so that you couldn't even make out a pixel, but it's obvious that Apple couldn't double the screen resolution so early in the life of of the iPad. That would cause all of the thousands of current apps to be pixel doubled and look like crap and the new display not to mention the current iPhone apps which obviously wouldn't even be usable

Pixel doubled apps wouldn't look any different would they? The pixel pitch of current apps would be the same as at the moment.

You're welcome to your opinion on the current screen... but for me it's marginal. Apple obviously think so too, otherwise they wouldn't have started to introduce 'retina displays' on the smaller devices.

Why isn't anyone talking about the shotty RAM? How can a phone has 512 MB of RAM, but a "beefier that does more" have the same or less amount?:confused:

Have to agree a little on this. Was hoping for 2 models. One with 512 and the current display, and one with 1g and a high res display.

Anything Anti-Glare is great with me. Still need to wait for the official specs however. Still going on rumors. ;)

I think the current screen is fine, especially if it's laminated to the glass like the iPhone 4. I have no issues with the resolution. What is really exciting me is the bump in processing speed, graphics ability, and memory. Our office iPad can struggle sometimes with multiple Safari tabs. The anti-reflective coating will be much welcome, playing Angry Birds outside on a nice day does pose a problem. I'm diggin' the update. I'll get one and when the next one comes out with the higher res screen, like with my iPhones, I'll just sell it and upgrade to the new one.

The great thing about Apple products is that they retain their value, especially after only a year. It's allowed me to upgrade through every iPhone iteration. This will be my first iPad that I will buy, but it's safe to say that next year I'll be able to upgrade to the new one with minimal additional funding.

Why do people that have the current version of an Apple product complain about a new one every year? Frickking Ebay it and buy the next one.

I wanted one for Christmas...but my girlfriend got a ridiculously good deal on a Dell Mini 10 (It retails for $499.99 even still to this day at Best Buy....and we got it from a friend, brand new and sealed in the box for $150...so I really couldn't pass that up) ;)

doesn't dell usually lets you buy a mini for $99-$199 with the purchase of a desktop/laptop.

Not too excited about these specs either. I do like the dual core processor and more memory, but I tend to doubt that the cameras are going to be less than an iPhone 4. I know the iPad is big, but wow what a preview screen for a camera :) Anyway, hard to say what the final specs will be until it actually comes out.

I see, but I disagree. I use my ipad several hours a day for web and email. and it is more than I could ask for.

I guess most people on this forum are spoiled with high resolution iphones Macbooks and other Macs

this. hopefully they lightened the thing up

you realize 1024x768 is what i ran in 1999 right?

On a 9.7inch IPS Screen?

Seriously people

IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW RESOLUTION RELATES TO SIZE DON'T COMMENT.

Yes you ran 1024x768 on a 17 or 19 inch screen in 1999... But it was NOT IPS and it was NOT 9.7 Inches.

No one seems to wake up and see that the amazing specs and Apple-esque coat of paint their competitors put on these days is little more than a fragile facade that turns out to be the usual crap at closer inspection.

True dat.

I don't think you really said anything at all there,...Maybe a price quote???

What are you saying?

****EDIT*** Oh , and if you think that the main reason people look at Mac is Software and not Mac Hardware like the Uni-body and so forth....Well,...you are giving Apple buyers too much credit. Most people get Mac's because Mac's are pretty and shiny and they are too dumb to figure out how to use a real Computer....that's why Ubuntu isn't the one on top...

That people will compare?

You bet your ass they will.

And thats the original point.

I fail to see yours

It must be a terrible burden for you to be better and smarter than all of humanity. You have my pity.

Retina Needed

I need the retina-like display!

With a slew of new tablets coming on the market this year this is one of the ways that Apple can continue to differentiate it's product...especially when you consider that other tablets will most likely have more "features" and "capabilities" compared to the iPad.

Also though, it's not pleasant to read newpapers/magazines on the iPad right now (using apps like Wired or Zinio)...the text is just too pixelated. :(

Yawn. Wake me when they make an iPad with better resolution.

What resolution would you like?

This is just embarrassing. The newly announced PSP2 thats shipping this year is going to have:

Quad Core A9 CPU
Top of the line Quad Core SGX GPU with raised clock speeds
512/1GB of RAM
GPS
Six axis motion sensing system
Front 5 inch OLED touch capacitive display
Back capacitive touch pad
Front and back camera's
more

And its expected to be around $300 while the iPad is going to cost $200 bucks more, and is much less powerful. $200 bucks more for a big screen that is still the same resolution? Thats all I wanted and I was willing to pay the Apple tax for it!

It's also a dedicated gaming machine and will net about 3 hours of battery life.

Low reflective/glare glass, like is available for professional mounting/framing would be awesome. And the upgraded processor(s) and RAM with cameras will all have me upgrading.

anti-reflective screen?!?

An analyst from Concord Securities is claiming to have knowledge of some of the upcoming iPad 2 components in their latest research note. According to Ming-Chi Kuo as reported by AppleInsider, the iPad 2 display will not get a higher resolution display as some have hoped.

Instead, the iPad 2's screen improvements will focus on thickness and anti-reflection. The screen is said to be 30-35% thinner and also offer a better sunlight reading experience due to the anti-reflective properties.

The report also claims that the next iPad will use a Cortex A9 dual core processor running at 1.2GHz, as well as Imagination Technologies' SGX 543 dual-core GPU. The iPad 2's RAM will also see a much needed boost to 512MB, equal to the iPhone 4. The iPad 2 is also expected to use the same lower quality front and back cameras found in the iPod Touch.

It's hard to tell where this information is sourced. Some pieces have been reported, but some specifics (1.2GHz, anti-reflective screen) seem to be unique information.

Gee. Maybe Apple could actually use that same sort of screen on their Macs?
I know that's a weird thought out of left field, but...

$10: going, going...still going

Features demanded by people who have absolutely no clue about technical issues being faced depending on the requested feature.

And yes, can it be for $ 10 please?

Just don't buy one if it doesn't meet your standards. Still a free country![/QUOTE]

Make that $9.99 and I'll take two.

Of course.

Not. Going. To. Happen.

It's Itoys from here on.....

Dammit! Will one of you people please let us in on what SPECIFICALLY a Mac CAN NOT DO that a windows machine can??(Bluray aside,I get that)Otherwise you are just whining over nothing. The way you are talking Windows boxes just blow macs away.Put up or ****.And remember, whatever you come up with has to be consistent with calling Macs "toys"and not "real" computers, nut just a lag of a few months in getting some newest chipset.

The existing iPad's pixel density is an embarrassment compared with the iPhone 4 and the latest crop of Android smart phones. There are going to be A LOT of Android tablets hitting the market this year, most notably the Motorola Xoom. While the Xoom and others will have similar resolutions to the iPad 2, Apple only updates that thing once each year. Do they they think they will retain a competitive advantage using the same pixel density from last year to carry them through all of this year? Don't they realize that they are just exposing themselves to an onslaught of marketing criticism from competitors?

It's funny that Apple raised the bar for pixel density last year but can't come even close to that bar with the iPad 2. I'm hoping for a surprise announcement. Look, thinner isn't always better. The current iPad feels just fine, so let's improve the specifications instead of making everything so small and thin that it falls out of your hand and breaks into a million pieces.

The Xoom and Playbook will kill the iPad as productivity devices, especially for business and IT people. Look at the UIs on those other tablets. They are designed for productivity and show you appointments, incoming messages, emails, etc. right on the home screen as it should be. Not a hundred cute, candy-like gummy icons that tell you nothing about your day.

Apple really needs to step up its game. They are the 800 lb gorilla right now, but the amount of competition that's coming is staggering. How will Apple survive the competition unless it speeds up its product cycles or out-specs everyone on day one?

If this rumor were true

... then there is nothing much to be excited about. Sure dual core, every iteration of hardware should have improvement in the specs, otherwise there is not reason for the iteration in the first place. I hope that rumor is wrong as there is not Wow! factor at all, nothing to be excited about. Just another iPad. Time to look at other "pads" maybe there is something exciting elsewhere

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I love how everyone who is complaining about the iPad 2 hasn't even seen one or seen it in action.
Granted-I'm excited, but I've got better things to do than argue online about it.

It's also funny how the people who are most arrogant about their opinion are the least qualified to make technical judgments and critiques.

It'll come out soon. It won't have all the features that everyone wants because no one can make everyone happy.

For those saying Apple is no longer a "real" computer company-Apple retains it's status regardless of your opinion. iOS devices are toys-kickass toys that have potential for being work intensive devices. But please remember...iPods, iPhones, iPads, and any manner of tablet like the iPad is only ever going to be a really, really nice toy made for consumption, not production.

Chill out and enjoy the speculation.
