That's crazy engineering folks. And like ifixit likes, it's hard as hell to repair. Anyway it's simply amazing how they fit everything in it.

Sure as hell ifixit has a lot of fun tearing down such things :D

Right! Can you imagine getting paid to do that?

Am I an idiot or are they not showing the ram? Shouldnt it be by the processor and flash memory?

Yeah. Damn here can I apply?:D

It's a SOC (System on a chip) so ram cpu and gpu in one chip. So you can't see individual components.

You can see individual components, just not without using a very specialized microscope. How do you think iFixIt confirmed the original iPad only had 256MB of RAM?

Regardless, that part of the analysis will take over a day to finish, as they get another firm to do it because they don't have the necessary equipment to do so in-house.

@MacFixIt Looks like a mess to take apart. Any chance of upgrading that rear-facing camera before you put it back together?

Yeah I know, they dissolve the chip casing and reveal the goods. There should be ram+cpu+gpu stacked, anyway it wouldn't make any sense to just have 256 mb of ram.

Well that's the price you pay for such thiness. And also apple don't want you fixing your own stuff, they'd much rather you paid them to do that.

With apple hardly anybody pays repairs (at least here) some times they are even more expensive than the product itself.

This is so hot cool badass must have.
I think I'll stand in line out in the rain all day just to get some! // sarcasm//

I wonder if the battery is the same size as the first revision? or did thy reduce its size?

I can't help but wonder, if they had just made it an extra 2mm thicker, if they could've tacked on another hour or two of battery life or stuffed in a better camera.

Oh well, it's true though that specs are only what you make of them. The last gen iPad had 1 GHz and 256 MB RAM (the same specs of my iBook 6-7 years ago) and it ran very smooth. The second-gen adds dual-core and 512 MB (1/8 the RAM of my MBP) but seems to be insanely fast and no problem loading apps or anything

the code written on the A5 identifies the ram
K3PE4E400B - XGC1

K3: Samsung Mobile DRAM Stac
P: MDDR2-P(※S4)+MDDR2-P(※S4)
E4: A-Port I/F & Density & Vcc& Org (4 Gbit 2Ch 1.2V 46nm)
E4: B-Port I/F & Density & Vcc& Org
0: Reserved
0: Interposer I/F (0: none)
B: Generation B-Die
X: Package FBGA
G: Temp. (G : -25 ~ 85℃)
C1: Speed (C1 : 2.5ns@RL6, TRCD18ns, TRP18ns ) 800 Mbps

confirmed 512MB DDR2 RAM @800Mbps

does the afterthougth speaker sound good, or not?

it is a multimedia device - boogles the mind that it has a crap mono speaker in the back like an old bakolite alarm clock...

Given glue has a tendency to become weaker at higher temperatures, I wonder how long these will hold up to years of high temperatures?

Several years ago, Apple had a patent where they essentially proposed filling these types of devices with epoxy, thereby leaving no internal voids and removing the needs for screws. Guess we are seeing some of it here.

Here it is, sounds familiar.

In plain (or at least plainer) English, that means that Apple thinks it can make lighter, stronger laptop shells by bonding parts together, rather than using screws or rivets. The filing explains, "In recent years portable computers have become thin, light and powerful." This, naturally, leads to "two conflicting design goals--the desirability of making the enclosure lighter and thinner, and the desirability of making the enclosure stronger and more rigid." Using a structural glue or conductive paste would, in theory, allow lighter shells that wouldn't be as susceptible to flexing, bowing, or cracking

The "secret" Apple battery technology --- may be just a marketing hype.

You are getting amazing battery life on the original ipad because Apple may have under-reported the actual capacity of their batteries. The "math" on the original ipad battery is 6610mah, but Apple may have given you a 7000mah battery.

But the real question is "Will It Blend"? The 1st Gen iPad wouldn't, hopefully Apple fixed that so the iPad 2 will blend. :D

Oops, someone already beat me to that question.
