Ever since the iPhone really took off, a loud whining sound has been emanating from the iWhatever forums forums and it shows no signs of stopping.

Every single feature decision Apple makes seems to cause mortal offense to one group of people or another.

To be honest I wouldn't mind if the iPhone had 3MP as long as the sensor was the same. More MP are only needed if I want to blow up my pics, which I don't.

True but with higher mega pixels you do get some leeway for cropping and more detail when you need to zoom in.

I don't know if others have mentioned it, but the only way to really improve the image quality is to have a larger sensor. To have a larger sensor, you need to have a thicker body and a larger area taken up by the lens component. Nokia did it with the N8 but I just don't see too many others following that attempt although the N8 does take excellent photos.

I've seen some amazing photos taken with the iPhone but most of those are crap. There's really nothing interesting about them and they just have the same boring filters applied to them.

Granted...I was referring to his other work. He just started the iPhone gallery with the recent purchase of a hipstomatic, but he has been sending me photos via email that aren't in that gallery that are indicative of the quality of the iPhone 4 camera, not so much of his composition of typical of his dslr work.

Very true! And WOW!!! I had no idea about the N8. Very impressive. I still like the idea of my iPad/iPhone compatibility. But, I was really interested mostly in a good camera in a handled PDA format. I wish I had known about the N8. WOW!
