Anyone live near Hull?
I do and im stuck as to where to go. We have a PC world, comet and Currys but neither stocked the original iPad on launch day so I dont know wether to risk it there or try to get to meadowhall apple store but i wont be there unill 5 ish?!

I'm from nr York and I'd suggest that Apple at meadowhell would be your best bet. Tbh I don't waste time with resellers because all of my experiences have been terrible.

Got my iPad 2 16gb Black on Friday :D

Arrived in two days via UPS Express from USA. They charged £77 Tax which was reasonable.

It's fantastic, the performance improvements and weight loss make a huge difference. And it feels and looks so much nicer in hand than the pics ;)

Unfortunately, the camera is worse than what people make out.. and people make out that it's bad :p

The camera and especially video recording function is very useable in daylight though, if you just need a quick snap of something and happen to be using your ipad it is definitely up to the job.

Be patient you lot, it's worth it !

care to tell your experiences, as resellers are the closest for me

I only really visit a store when I am purchasing a new machine or hardware of a decent value, because of this I also like to know quite a few technical specs and product update of the items I am buying.
I went to buy a new MBP for my wife last January from KRCS and they were useless with any technical questions I had, told me they did not have time to walk me through a few of the updates in snowleopard.
I should not have wasted my time. Went to Apple meadowhall the sales assistant spent about 1 3/4 hours walking my through a new MBP. Actually there were two sales assstants with me 90% of the time, they were happy to answer any questions I had and some of the more technical ones they got answered by the genius bar.
I was so impressed and they'd shown memos much I never realised I purchases a 27" iMac, iPod classic and Apple tv to go along with my wife's new MacBook pro !
I have also visited the above reseller on more then one occasion and they don't seem to hold a lot of stock. I've tried to buy various peripheral devices and accessories from them but they never have stock. Never seem interested in backordering items for you.
These are only my experiences of the above store.
I would not dream of purchasing an Apple machine from Pc world or currys ect. They are bad enough when I need a new printer !

The verdict is not very good on the smart covers, apparently becoming quite annoying rather than a normal case, im going to hold off on the case and wait for 3rd parties to release their cases, which will undoubtedly be more or less the same or even cheaper than the smart cover but cover the back as well

I was in two minds weather to get a smart cover too. I saw Cygnett do a case called a second skin I might go for that. At least it covers both back and front. And then just get a power support film for the screen.

For sure I know what you mean, if its a few days ill restrain myself and wait :p If anyone else is down for CG get involved! We can grab a drink then get queuing!for all who fancy it.

Why on earth would someone meet a complete stranger on here for a drink.. just because we both want the same gadget weirdo!?

On a better note shall be queuing at pc world local to me to get one... gonna get the 16gb wifi+3g plus this bad boy:

Relax a bit more, shifty. It's only weird if you make it :p
Surely politely declining an invitation for a drink is better than trying to insult them?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

Does anybody have a number for PC World Purley Way.

I want to put my name on the list but I'm away for a few days and when I try calling 0870 242 0444 it just goes as call fail from O2 iPhone 4 so not sure if I have the right number.

Any help gratefully received as currently stuck in Chorley

I don't think you can speak to anyone other than in the business accounts in the actual stores, all the numbers (other than business) go through to a central sales team who give the usual Apple blurb/secrecy act.

Yes i did as it happens.

I like it, it looks real neat. The main complaint is it doesnt protect the back, but i either put it cover down or just flip the cover over the back when i put it down. It acts as a really good rest too. It's not something i would use if i was chucking it in and out a bag or was on the move with it or something, but for around the house where you have good control of where your putting it down and using it, i think it works nice and still leaves the nice design of the iPad to be seen :)

It has zero drop protection though really. So don't drop it, i nearly did.. the aluminium is really quite smooth, so when i grabbed it and twisted around to quick to walk the over way it *almost* slipped out my hand, the original ipad seemed a bit grippier.

Hey everyone.

I work at Argos UK and can confirm that we got a store briefing this morning confirming launch on Friday the 25th of March at 1700hours.

Apple are strict on the launch time and we won't be selling before that (even though we're only open to 7pm that day).

Do you have any idea of prices yet?

Prices weren't announced in the briefing but there's no indication of a price change either way.

Argos Stores get deliveries every single day Monday-Friday. Deliveries are usually complete by 2pm. All I can do is recommend you phone your local store around that time from Tuesday - Friday to see if stock has arrived onto the system yet. Once it's in on delivery it can usually be reserved.

Once I have catalogue numbers (i.e I search through our computer system for new items :D) I'll post them here.

At that point you can phone up Argos, quote the catalogue number, and ask for a stock check / reserve.

Nonsense. Plenty of people, including myself, thinkk the smart cover is great. While its true that it doesn't protect the back, I'm going to put a clear protector (Zagg in my case) on the back to prevent scratches and that's how I'm going to keep it. I had a leather case before, but it's just too bulky.

Thanks for that!

I'm sad now though! Didn't want a 5pm launch! :(

Is there any idicaiton on quanity and if all stores will be stocking it?

There's not. I'll report back later in the week (hopefully we'll have good stock levels on Thursday, but may even have them filtering in every day up to launch) with our stock levels for certain models. Hopefully this will give us an indication on how many iPads well have at launch. We stocked around 20 models of the base iPad 1 in our store - and slightly less of the others so I presume it'll be the same.

We know nothing at all until they come in.
