I popped into PcWorld, the guys at the apple store were pretty sure they would have stock in on thursday to sell at 9am Friday....they hadn't had any official confirmation of this...but still seemed pretty sure that was the case.

Not too keen on the idea of a 5pm launch. I've booked the day off from work (unrelated to the iPad 2 launch I assure you ;)), and kinda want to make good use of it. Standing in line from like 11/12 in the middle of a busy shopping centre is really not appealing.

How am I supposed to get to an Apple Store in time if my shift ends at 5 and my nearest store it about 2 hours away?

Umm, order on-line and wait a few days for delivery? Assuming you work a normal 8 hour day you wouldn't be able to go to a store for a 9am opening either so what's the problem specificaly with a 5pm launch (if that's what they go with)?

Sorry, I just don't understand why everyone is acting as if it's the end of the world if you can't get one the moment it's available. Is a few days, or even weeks, extra to wait really that big a deal?

Was this the store in croydon by any chance? Was told the same thing earlier today.

Went into best buy again and asked another employee who seems to think it will be a midnight launch lol. Best buy dont have a clue. Looks like I'll queue at pcworld seeing as they have their own apple section with apple employees :apple:

Lighten up fella, everyone wants their new toy. :p

But in all honesty if you have to drive 2 hours, its not worth it, just wait a couple days for delivery or try currys, pc world, JL etc.

This has probably been highlighted but I just tried to book a genius appointment for regent street on Friday, and was unable to!
Jack

I thought this too actually, but apparantly theyre booked got mine at CG. :p

Looks like every other store has blocked out both Friday and Saturday for Genius Bar appointments except Covent Garden.

Wonder if its just a case that CG aren't that on the ball at the mo?

Feel bad for those who can't make one or another time but I'm thinking it will be 5pm launch, if it is my boss said I can leave early and if not then he is cool with me tuning up late! It's all gravy but then I use the iPad for work too!

yeah maybe CG are just realy slow! But I also have an appointment on the Saturday morning because my MBP battery is starting to degrade, may aswell get a free replacement in warranty eh!

But iawa has a kushty deal there! Hmm if it is a 5pm release reckon 11am is gonna guarantee a pick up?

Actually If you think about it a 5pm is the most likely imho
If you launch at 9 then people queue from 3 or 4 in the morning
when no other punters will see the queues
Launch at 5pm - everyone sees the queues - heightens the buzz

Indeed. And the fact that 9AM people would need to take time off work where some people just can't.

Looking like queueing then.

Wondering whether to go to KCRS/PC World/Argos/John Lewis in central Nottingham

or

Shops a bit further out in the suburbs such as PC World.

if you're going into notts town, then i'll be up for meeting up (that's if we're queuing somewhere)..

I was gonna do an all-nighter for the first time at CG store but a 5pm release would mean WAYYYY too long queuing. Whos up for a Covent G. meet up?

Hmm...

Just had an online chat with Apple rep:

Seems to think it's morning release, and it will be 25th (eg: not delayed), but obviously, it's by no means concrete until we hear something official...

You are chatting with Abdul H, an Apple Expert
Hi, my name is Abdul H. Welcome to Apple!
Good afternoon.
Hi there Abdul - I have some questions regarding the iPad 2
1. Do you know if the launch is morning or afternoon launch?
I'm happy to assist with that.
Do you know if it is still 25th March as there are plenty of rumours saying it will be further delayed
We didn't get such details yet but I would recommend to check early AM.
Will Apple be offering pre-orders via the website at all?
The fantastic new iPad 2 will be very popular! The fastest way to get your hands on one would be to place your order online on March 25th and let us ship it from our warehouse right to your door! And, we can engrave if for free!
As for rumours we can't speculate on that.
I wouldn't say the fastest way was to place an online order, as it could take an extra week to get delivered!
I would want it delivered ON 25th March
We actually didn't get delivery time yet.
What about pre-orders please?
What we have so far is all iPad 2 orders start on the 25th.
But Apple stores nationwide will have stock for morning release?
Regarding store availability I recommend checking with the stores directly before making the visit, let me give you the number.
Click here for our stores' numbers.
OK thanks for the link.
Let me know if that link works for you.
You're welcome.
Yes - the link works
And you're confident that 25th March is the date?
So again, we appreciate your interest and recommend checking back with us on the 25th for pricing and delivery details.
That's correct.
OK thanks for your help Abdul
Bye
You're most welcome.
Thank you for visiting the Apple Store. We appreciate your business. If you would like more help, please chat with us again.

you'll definitely make headlines... i dont think anyone has ever queued up outside a pc world before!! :D

Lol :D

I once queued at the opening of the rebuilt PC World on Purley Way at midnight.

Was the first and last time I saw a DSG company actually have a decent a sale!

if i queue it will be covent garden so i'll give you a shout.

if i manage to place my online order for 12.01am on the 25th and it says it'll be delivered in 3-5 days, i wont bother, i can wait that long, especially as i'm skiing next week!.

4 weeks and i'm queueing though!

It all really depends on the launch time, if its in the morning then I doubt it but if its 5pm then you may have a change.

Me and my friend are planning to get to Meadowhall pre 6 am if its a 9am launch and if its 5pm then i'll prob get there about 9.

hmm thanks, how many people do you think will turn up if it's a 5pm launch? have you been to a launch there before?

Never been to a launch at an Apple store before, I went to the launch for the original iPhone, 3G, and 4 at my local O2 store (Doncaster). I got there eatch time about an hour before and was about the 15-20th in the queues. But... that doncaster lol.

As for Meadowhall, I think if its a 5pm launch, I think it could be a couple hundred by then, maybe at least 400.
