Oh good. I'll just stay up the extra couple of hours on Friday and do that i think then. I pre-ordered online in the middle of night with iPad 1. I was going to go to the launch in Birmingham Apple Store but i don't finish university til 3pm. Means i'd be there at 4pm and i think that'd be too late. Plus i'd look like a knob in my Nurse's tunic & blue trousers lol.

i just spoke to my local KRCS, and he confirmed that prices will be announced at 12:01pm on friday and that the launch is confirmed as 5pm!

no pre-orders - so even though i put my name on the list, it's not guaranteed!

ffs, this is turning into a right mess....

i also called pc world, who were pretty useless, saying o call them on friday morning at 9pm, for stock levels in stores, and if any can be reserved for collection.

Well I'm very confused by the opening times proposed so far. We have 5pm from the big electrical retailers and 3 saying 7am and the mobile phone retailer in the shopping centre by me also saying 7am. Certainly for mobile phone retailers a 5pm selling time would be difficult in regards to signing up time, especially is they plan on closing normal time.

As I can't afford one yet it's all a bit moot for me though.

I'm just waiting until we get an email from Apple saying what the time will be.

Takes the piss that there's no reservations though.

Pre-orders would have been so much more an easier system. I could have been at home waiting for a delivery but relaxing in comfort.

Now, I have to make a special long car journey to the nearest store and be lucky. I have read my receipt and it doesnt guarantee stock, just a position in the queue.

My theory is Apple had only a limited stock from day one, and have spread it out across the world. They released the stock early to beat RIM's Playbook by a month, so as not to affect their sales.

Timing is everything. And a 5pm sales start time simply is so inconvenient.

I think some things need clearing up as this thread seems to be getting info when it was orginally just a comment not actually facts or anything related to the launch of iPad 2.

The 7am openings - I have heard from a friend at Carphone Warehouse and staff at Best Buy that they have been asked to go in for 7am to prepare the staff/store for the evening release of the iPad 2.

The 12:01pm (midday) rumour is not set in stone but seems likely for a time to purchase iPad 2 online (again nothing to do with the actual purchase in stores).

The release time (verified by myself at 4 stores and other users on the forum) for in store is 5pm.

For clear details on launch see http://bit.ly/iawa2kiPad

I've got to say the thought of a 5pm launch is not very appealing. Even though I've got the day off work ( coincidence, honest!), I don't fancy spending 5+ hours queing. Early morning would have been ideal.

That being said, I'll be at the Trafford Centre store at around 12pm for a 5pm launch. Anyone else planning on going to the TC and if so what time. Seeing as it'll be my first time queing for a product, I want to make sure I'm not too late!

I too would have preferred a 9am launch, having it at 5 is going to create much longer queues which I guess is what apple wants. But if they have not got enough stock then what is the point.

I went round a few shops in Leeds today, hmv would not take any pre orders today and the guy was very skeptical about them getting any, saying that they didn't stock the original iPad for 3 months after it came out.

Krcs would not take any more pre orders and said that apple has told them not too, from what the guy said it sounded like they would hold stock for the people who had already pre ordered so I won't be risking going to that shop on Friday.

I'm based in Leeds so now I'm just deciding between manchester or Sheffield, anyone knows which store will be least busy?

+1 on that!! I've never queue up for something like this before, but I'd prefer to queue up at 6/7am for a 9am launch and be out by 9.30am!! 3 hour wait instead of a 5 hour wait!!

I'm lucky in that my local Apple store is 20 minute walk away, Kingston (Bentalls), so looks like that might be the way for me, as much I don't relish the thought!! Rather that than waiting 4 to 5 weeks or more!!!???

Been interesting keep abreast through this thread tho'!!!

I'm in 2 minds where to queue. I was thinking either purley way in croydon or westfield apple store in london. My thinking is that Apple stores will have more stock than places like pcworld etc but pcworld is a lot closer(10 minute drive).

Getting to westfield will take me just over an hour on train. Guess I'll wait and see how much stock pcworld/bestbuy etc have before deciding!

If it is a 5pm launch then I plan on queuing at either westfield apple store or purley way in croydon around 11am/12pm. It's going to be a long day :(

Right decision made.

If (as is looking more and more likely) its 17:00 lauch then I'll be getting the 0824 bus into town. Should get to the apple store at around 0850. Might grab a coffee beforehand (after checking out the q)

If its a morning launch (looking unlikely), i'm going to take the view that most people are quite sensibal, and leave it slightly later getting the 0514 bus.

My only hope is that everybody else who qs. is reasonable and things like toilet breaks are 'effectively managed' :D

I am planning to go to the Trafford Centre, I was hoping it was a morning launch as there are videos online of the iPad launch at TC and the person filming near the front had been there since 5am. As for the late launch I have no idea, does anyone else, I'll prob go to the TC when it opens and start queuing when people start to gather. I live two hours away and have no choice but to travel as my pc world said they think only the flagship stores will get stock.

Been lurking this thread for a while, registered to post..

Just been to Covent Garden Apple store to get a new iPhone 4 after smashing mine on the kitchen floor this afternoon. Whilst talking to the person she told me it would be 5pm not early morning, there won't be an early preorder like the previous iPad and she had no idea on stock. Also she is fed up of being asked

On an unrelated note i'm not entirely sure what happened but I think they gave me apple care by mistake as I wasn't charged for my replacement despite smashing the entire front screen :)

Will they have stock available for online orders for immediate shipping, as well stocking all the physical Apple stores?

There's not an Apple shop for nearly 100 miles from me, so I will be ordering online on 25th. Just wondering if ordering online will be given any less or more priority.

I'm worried...I sold my iPad a few weeks ago in preparation for getting the iPad 2. But the whole screen backlight bleeding is putting me off. I want it SO badly, the money is waiting to be spent, but I do not want to end up with a faulty device that i've paid £500 for.

Do we think that by the time the iPad 2 launches here in the UK on Friday the backlight bleeding issue will be resolved?

Well if it's faulty you just take it to the Genius Bar and they'll fix or replace it for you! Besides, I'd heard that it's just an initial problem and when you've broken it in by using it for a day or two the problem should solve itself.
