I lurked here last year for the iPad 1 and now I'm lurking again for iPad2 - So I thought I better register:eek:

I'm another Cardiff based person, still trying to work out my options for getting to the Apple store... Earliest is about 2pm... Hope that'll be OK for a 64G black WiFi or 3G option.

I'm planning on getting mine from the Regent Street Apple Store, but I can't be there until 1:00pm. If I didn't have a job to do in the morning, I'd queue from about 9:00am.

Assuming that the 5:00pm on-sale time is accurate, I'd love to hook up with someone who could take the "early shift" - 9:00am till 1:00pm. I could then take over from 1:00pm till 5:00pm while you go off for a lie down / a sandwich / to see a movie and you could swoop back into the queue in time to be granted access! Any takers?

Cheers

Tom

I might take you up on that offer Tom.

not being funny but that sort of thing would wind me up! if theres only one person queueing at a time, then they can't hold a place for someone else! Otherwise i could just stand there from 8am and hold a place for my mate who turns up at 5? toilet breaks are one thing, but 4 hours?!

its not the sort of thing i would let go if i was in the queue behind you put it that way, especially if i ended up missing the model i wanted by one or two... there would be trouble!

:)

I'll just have to hope that the person behind me is a bit more easy-going.

Cheers

Tom

Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'll be in lectures until 12, then I'll be heading to the Cardiff Apple store to start the wait...

I called the Apple store this morning and spoke to a guy named Ben. Seemed a little fed up with the iPad queries, but said they didn't have any info on price etc. He did say he thought it would be best to come in the afternoon though, and that they'd have plenty of stock.

Anyone go to Cardiff for the iPad 1 launch? Was it a big deal in Cardiff?

I have to say I'm with THFourteen on this one. It's one thing to spot for each other while on goes to the toilet or gets a snack but to hold the spot in a queue for hours? Nope. Not fair on those who have waited all that time.

The entire concept of a queue is first come first served - the longer you have been there the sooner you are seen. Holding a space for someone so they can leave and come back much later subverts this system. It's only a small thing of course but at what point do you stop?

What if you did this trick with three or four people? Would that be OK? And how would you feel if someone did it to you and you missed out on the product you'd been waiting for all day while someone else, fresh out of the cinema having had a lovely afternoon, ended up taking one home? If you can't be bothered to make the sacrifice of waiting in the line then you shouldn't expect to have the reward that comes from it. And you can't make out that somehow it's wrong of someone else to hold you to the same rules as everyone else. It isn't a case of not being easy going, it's a case of being willing to stand up for yourself.

I expect to use mine mostly at home and I don't think I'll fill it with music. It'll be more for apps, films and web browsing. Also, with home sharing set up, I don't need to have the media on the iPad to use it as though it is. Because of this I'm tempted to save the money and go with a 16Gig Wifi only model.

That said, apps are getting bigger and when I go away from home with it I will want to stock it up with games and videos. So I'm tempted to go for the 32Gig. if I need web access I'll just enable the hotspot on my iPhone.

So mine's 32gig, Wifi only, White. Love the white one.

Hmm, never thought about this but what do you think the most to least popular model is?

Here in the US, the Verizon models are the least popular because of CDMA's lower speeds. If I had to rank the remaining ones from most to least popular, I'd say (from what I've noticed on forums and some guessing). White/Black not included.

16-Wifi
32-Wifi
16-GSM
64-Wifi

+1

Queue jumpers of any kind suck.

I'm going for a 32GB with 3G in black. I know I will hardly need the 3G but I know there will be a few times I'll really want it (when on holiday) and I don't have tethering included in my phone contract. 32GB should leave enough room for apps and videos when away from home.

I am hoping by iPad 2 buying experience will be similar to the original iPads....

On launch day I walked into my local Apple Store (West Quay, Southampton) at around 5pm to check out the new iPads. Held it, loved it, wanted it lol so asked a member of staff if they had any left. To my surprise they had loads of each model so bagged myself a 32GB wifi model.

Due to the "likely" 5pm launch this time around, I have a horrible feeling I will have to queue, but fingers crossed I will have the same experience as last time. Roll on Friday!
