I'm not quite sure how they could reliably tell you that they WILL be stocking the iPad 2 on launch day. No one appears to have had any stock allocation yet, so I don't know how they can say that they will have stock on Friday.
I'm planning on getting mine from the Regent Street Apple Store, but I can't be there until 1:00pm. If I didn't have a job to do in the morning, I'd queue from about 9:00am.
Assuming that the 5:00pm on-sale time is accurate, I'd love to hook up with someone who could take the "early shift" - 9:00am till 1:00pm. I could then take over from 1:00pm till 5:00pm while you go off for a lie down / a sandwich / to see a movie and you could swoop back into the queue in time to be granted access! Any takers?
Cheers
Tom

"If youd like to be among the first to get your hands on iPad, just enter your email address in the box below. Well notify you when its available to buy from an Apple Retail Store or pre-order from the Apple Online Store."
We might be able to yet....
hmm, never thought about this but what do you think the most to least popular model is?
Not quite the same as the Dutch version have a look -

not being funny but that sort of thing would wind me up! if theres only one person queueing at a time, then they can't hold a place for someone else! Otherwise i could just stand there from 8am and hold a place for my mate who turns up at 5? toilet breaks are one thing, but 4 hours?!
its not the sort of thing i would let go if i was in the queue behind you put it that way, especially if i ended up missing the model i wanted by one or two... there would be trouble!

I might take you up on that offer Tom.
I'll just have to hope that the person behind me is a bit more easy-going.

I have to say I'm with THFourteen on this one. It's one thing to spot for each other while on goes to the toilet or gets a snack but to hold the spot in a queue for hours? Nope. Not fair on those who have waited all that time.
The entire concept of a queue is first come first served - the longer you have been there the sooner you are seen. Holding a space for someone so they can leave and come back much later subverts this system. It's only a small thing of course but at what point do you stop?
What if you did this trick with three or four people? Would that be OK? And how would you feel if someone did it to you and you missed out on the product you'd been waiting for all day while someone else, fresh out of the cinema having had a lovely afternoon, ended up taking one home? If you can't be bothered to make the sacrifice of waiting in the line then you shouldn't expect to have the reward that comes from it. And you can't make out that somehow it's wrong of someone else to hold you to the same rules as everyone else. It isn't a case of not being easy going, it's a case of being willing to stand up for yourself.
