Why hasn't anyone mentioned that a Thunderbolt port would be nice on the next iPad? It could replace the 30 pin dock and really increase bandwidth to the device. Also, why would an 8 inch or 7 inch version be good? I can't find a reason why I would want a non-A4 or non-pocket-sized iOS device.

Remember Its 3D holigraphics, you know how apple hates it if you dont say the holographics are in 3d

You can always tell when products are designed around a monolithic OS from multiple vendors.

Since they are all selling the same software they try too hard to differentiate through tossing in stuff like SD card slots HDMI ports.

When you ask someone why they are chaining their tablet down to a TV or searching endlessly for that SD card that may have fallen between couch cushions they suddenly understand how silly it is.

Cloud storage allows me to know that my data is safe and relieves me of doing the whole card interchange thing. Cloud storage is as low as $.50 a Gigabyte which is as cheap or cheaper than SD cards.

I just can't see Apple moving backwards especially considering wireless networking technology is getting faster.

Because Thunderbolt would likely cost more than the processor/GPU itself.

Someone did....

Hey I can't fix a PEBKAC problem, though I guess in this case it would be PEBTAC (Problem Exists Between Tablet and Couch) :p

Problem with next storage band is that its a max of 64GB. With cards you can have as many as you need and swap them in and out as needed so its essentially unlimited.

As for Apple TV yeah its great for at home (I use an Acer Revo personally as you don't need to worry about format), but what if somewhere else that doesn't have Apple TV..Friends & Family, work, etc. No option without spending more $ and getting the dongle.

Not that its any competition against an iPad on a complete package basis, but as a comparison, you can buy a $170 tablet from China right now that has native HDMI out (not mini-HDMI) with the ability to push 3D (2160p).

Cards also bring a whole host of other problems with them, witness the Windows Phone debacle for the latest high profile oopsie. More importantly it would require opening up the filesystem, at least at a system level, and once they do that it's only a matter of time before a really easy hack comes out to let people pirate apps without jailbreaking.

Apple are going in the other direction anyway with a shift away from local storage and towards iCloud / web technologies. For stuff outside of the iCloud ecosystem there are plenty of media streaming apps (both for web content and to stream from your own storage)) to supplement local storage and the move to proper 4G networks is only going to help that.

I've also never understood the complaints about needing the dongle for HDMI. Frankly I'd much rather Apple go down that route rather than build in another port. Helps the design of the iPad and, even if it's included as part of the basic spec, you'll still end up paying for it. Maybe not in increased unit cost but a change in spec somewhere else. This way the few that actually use that function can choose to buy it, the rest of us don't need to.

256GB storage
Dual Thunderbolt ports
4GB RAM
12 Megapixel camera
20 hour battery life.

I'd buy this.

I predict that in 2013, on the eve of the iPad 4, people will jump the gun and speculate over iPad 5.

I see what you are saying, that not all would use the feature, so why build it into the price. My thought on it is just that these days HDMI cables are everywhere, just about anywhere I am with a HDTV I can get my hands on one if only just 'borrowing' from the current setup. Don't need to carry anything extra around if I want to throw the display up on the big screen.

Alas it's not a perfect world yet...though I'm sure Apple will see that it is eventually.

Hopefully that haptic display that was going around the few days before the announcement of the iPad 3.

Quantum computing would be a nice upgrade too :D

Quad Core A6 - Based on the Cortex A15
More Ram
32GB, 64GB, 128GB Models
Better Cameras
Redesigned
12 hour battery life

It's interesting to see opinions on what people predict for the next model at least a year out. Throughout the year, there will be changes due to new technology out. This year, I was a little disappointed that there was no nano-coating on the iPad because I wanted to read in the tub. I'm hoping to purchase some nano-coating for my car's windshield.

Here's what I like so far:
Apple A6 based on Cortex A15
dual thunderbolt ports (forgot about daisy chaining the iPad to RAID storage)
256GB storage
redesigned shell
upgraded cameras
holographics (a lot of manufacturers are currently working on this and there have been 2 phones with projector technology released. The laser keyboard thing just doesn't work well enough and holographics from what the techs say need to be projected upwards with retina tracking or a pointing/interaction device. Could be interesting in the next few years.)
Cloud storage (this is a great point. iCloud currently stores a good amount of content but they need to expand storage and aggregate content. I currently use several "cloud" storage techniques myself and I notice that there is a need for better cloud storage that can be partially localized in case you don't have a connection.)

Some funny items on some earlier posts. I felt like adding:

Often, when I'm at the beach, I find myself deciding between a tablet computer and a flotation device. If only the iPad would double as a kickboard. I could surf the water, while I surf the web. (*Applecare+ would be a must if it leaks and you need to exchange a wet model!)

I'm hoping for 32gb to become the smallest iPad. Doesn't the 32gb iPad use 2 16gb sticks? If so they're dirt cheap so I don't see why the smallest storage wouldn't be 32gb.

Solid aluminum case with glass glued and sealed so it is water tight. Same size, but iPhone 4 like edges.

The headphone Jack will use the patented water proof 3.5mm jack.

The power and volume buttons will be capacitive (like the new Xbox 360) but raised from the casing. So you will feel a bump while looking for it. So you don't accidentally click them there will be a short time delay.

No home button. Gestures.

4 pins on the bottom of the iPad. The new dock connector will magnetically clip onto the pins, which will use the same technology as the 3.5mm jack to make the whole things waterproof.

Quad core processor.

Same amount of pixels on the screen.

12mp rear camera and 8mp front camera.

Why do you hope that? Does it affect you that they sell a 16GB model?

Because I would like 32gb for the games and music I want on my iPad and paying an extra $100 for an additional 16gb is beyond crazy. I can get by with 16gb but 32gb would be more comfortable.
