I can't really see that there will be much of an update, if any to the next iPad. If this supposed iPad 'Mini' exists, and it doesn't coincide with the iPhone's 5 release, I could maybe see that being added to the lineup next March.

If the 'Mini' is released in October, and there is an update to the iPad next year, then I think the changes will be incremental. Maybe a bump up to an 8MP back camera, and a 1MP front facing camera. Screen will be the same, internals will be pretty much the same, except maybe a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU. Doubt it will be quad-core, just yet. The 30 pin dock connector might change to the one the next iPhone is supposed to use - I guess this will happen with the iPod's, also. The 16GB might be dropped and a 128GB version will be added, due to the Retina screen and apps needing to be a higher resolution.

BUT WHAT DO I KNOW.

iPad mini doesn't really have much to do with it. It's likely that Apple revamps the larger iPad in Spring and the mini in fall. This puts the smaller iPad revision squarely in the hottest shopping quarter.

Lot's of great new hardware to look forward to next year provided ARM and Imagination (PowerVR) are ready with their next generation cores.

Keeping It Realistic:

-microdock connector
-better speaker (no more cupping, please!)
-thinner design, raising screen to the surface of the glass
-8mpx 1080p 60fps camera
- ... no home button? (not sure about that one)

On another note, the Smart Cover could use some re-vamping.

Why couldn't they just make a dock connector with a thunderbolt end? I certainly don't see them ever having more than one port on the iPad.

They really need to up the base storage to 32GB's with the increased size of retina apps.

Thinner and cooler should be a given.

I do hope for a quad core CPU, accelerated graphics (from where it is now in the iPad 3), same-size screen, better cameras on both sides, and a memory boost. We've seen 16 GB base models for far too long...

If the A6 processor is included in the iPhone 5 then I think the next iPad will also include it. Who knows what it's specs will be but perhaps the A6 will be a dual or quad core ARM A15
