You will always find a problem if you go looking for it.
So a defect is acceptable if you don't see it?

You will eventually notice these clouding defects when viewing dark material, especially media/movie content.

I find any type of clouding unacceptable.
It's a defect & exposes that the tolerance of manufacturing is not as tight as it should be or QC is non-existent.

Hopefully Apple tighten ups their manufacturing tolerance and these first batches were "rush" jobs to meet the release deadline.

*Sony actually finds clouding an acceptable defect and will not warranty an HDTV for this defect.

does the bleeding go away after a while?

Yeah...when you stop looking for it. Who the heck watched a movie with an all black screen anyways? Some people need to get a life.

And that goes for the yellow tint guys as well.

You seem to have a low standard for products and that's fine.
It doesn't mean we all have to lower our standards to yours. :)

Ever watch a movie in OAR(Original Aspect Ratio)?
You know, ones with black bars on top/bottom. You will definitely notice bleeding on this type of content.

Try watching dark scenes in a sci-fi movie or other movies that have, you know... NIGHT SCENES ! :p

How about games with dark lighting or content.

Clouding and backlight bleeding on side mounted LED backlights are within the acceptable range. They are decently common just because that's the tech that's used for it. If you're really a stickler for no Clouding or backlight bleeding, I would suggest AMOLED+ screens.

I've owned several LCD HDTV's and only one has clouding/bleeding.
A 32" from Element I use for a bedroom TV. You know, a low tier brand.
Samsung is usually pretty good at keeping clouding non-existent.
Sony finds it acceptable.

Yes, let's lower the bar for acceptable quality!

So I take it not as bad as last years??

Not good. I had tried 3 iPad 2s because of backlight bleed and then decided to wait on the next one.

If backlight bleed was like my iPad 1, minimal, I'll keep it. Otherwise, I might try ONE more, and then wait on the next iPad.

My 11 inch Air & iPhone 4 & 4s don't have noticeable backlight bleed. Can't the iPad not have it?

Brand new black 64gb Wifi iPad 3 has HORRIBLE bleeding. Worse than my iPad 2. Didn't have time to get a pic, on my way back to the apple store to return.

Sorry to hear that.

Yeah, on the iPad 2s I tried last year, you couldn't even watch a movie our startup a game with a dark image because the backlight bleed just hit you.

People can say we are whiney and complainers.

However...this is a $500-$900 device that touts having amazing displays. Huge white blobs of light just aren't worth the money.

One can buy an Air instead.

iMacs & Cinema Display have their own respective issues (yellow 1/3 of screens).

Thankfully iPhones and *SOME* make Notebooks still have nice displays too.

This i don't agree with. I've owned multiple samsung HDTVs (im anal about clouding/flashlights, so i've continually exchanged tvs (complete pain in the ass to do)) and ALL have had clouds/flashlights.

Excuse my ignorance, but when you say launch iPad 2, I assume you mean when they first came out and then when you exchanged it....after you noticed the bleed or a couple of months after the iPad 2 was out?

I didn't word that too good.
I got a launch iPad 2 and noticed backlight bleeding the next day. It was pretty horrible but not a big deal unless you're in a dark room. I waited a few months to exchange just because I was lazy. The exchange was flawless.

Did you have apple care or anything? Ofcourse the website says 14 days for returns.

No, that's their fault. It's like a manufacturing problem or something.
The Genius warned me saying he can only give me one exchange so he can't guarantee that the exchange will be perfect or even better. He checked out the exchange in a dark room before giving it to me and it was perfect.

This is HORRIBLE news, and it's a real shame that Apple did not fix this issue so it would not happen with the iPad3.

Ugh, I hope mine is not too bad.

what do u guys think of bleed on my ipad

this whole light bleeding thing is never a big deal to me. I had a perfect imac and then had the screen replaced by apple, and its got a little bleeding spot but I don't even think it bothers me

Do you notice it when you are using your ipad normally? If not, you're fine. If you see it when doing normal stuff then exchange it.

I personally don't go looking for issue. If I see it in normal operation I'll ask for an exchange, but I won't go looking for them.
