Do you notice it when you are using your ipad normally? If not, you're fine. If you see it when doing normal stuff then exchange it.

I personally don't go looking for issue. If I see it in normal operation I'll ask for an exchange, but I won't go looking for them.

Why not look for problems/issues? not like we getting these for free or at a discount.

and it's not like they all have bleed, some do and some dont.

Truth. If you have to ask if it's bad, it's clearly not an issue.

what do u guys think of bleed on my ipad

That looks fine, except what are the square light dots? Is that a photoshop edit to demonstrate where the light areas are?

Those square lights not sure what those are, but as far as the light leakage it looks perfectly fine to me.

If it doesn't present any issues in normal operation, I don't consider it a problem. I would call that in the bounds of normal tolerances.

Can anyone post a screenshot of an iPad without bleeding issue
Just display an all black screen/picture.
Then see if you see any white looking clouds/flashlighting around the edges.
If you see any, that is the backlight bleeding.

If the screen is all black, you're good.

The screen on my iPad 3 is so much better (no light leaks, dead pixels AFAIK) than that of my launch iPad 2. I exchanged my iPad 2 no less than eight times from various outlets before I received an acceptable one.

What is considered normal?

If I watch a movie using the Ipad in my bedroom with no other lights and the screen is at say 50% brightness, is that considered 'normal usage' ?

I have very minimal bleeding on mine. I was thinking about exchanging it for a 64gb (it's 32) but I'm a little hesitant now.

Kind of hard to tell in the pic. It was taken at 100% brightness in a completely dark room with my 4S.

Minimal I would say, only bottom left corner. However from looking at many light bleeding that is a common place. It is up to you, if it bothers you, exchange it and do it before they run out of stock.

My is just as bad as this, I'll take , my back. I had that with ipad2 and though it wouldn't bother me, it did every time I watched a movie and I saw dark seen I was like noooo.....

This is what my display looks like.

50% Brightness

100% Brightness

50% Brightness

100% Brightness

This is my first iPad, so what do you guys think? Should I try to get it exchanged?

I think these threads turn perfectly happy users into paranoid people. How many people would do nothing but enjoy their new device if they didn't read of all of these "problems".

I actually noticed the problem while watching a movie on it last night. My brightness is set at 50% and it is still noticeable. I have to set it to 25% for the problem to dissapear, which is too dark. If there was no noticeable light bleeding between 50 and 75% brightness, I wouldn't care what the screen looks like at 100% because I will never turn the brightness up to that level.

It's better to be informed and aware of an issue then discovering it after warranty.

It's up to each user if these issues/defects are tolerable or below their standards/expectations from a PREMIUM priced consumer device.

A good way to check for light leak/clouding around the edge of the screen is to display an all black screen at full screen and set the brightness at 100%.

There should be no light leaks if you have a good unit.

An all black pic can be downloaded here.

Is there an exchange limit? Say, if I exchanged it and got a unit with similar or worse bleeding can I take that back as well?

Here's mine. The second is max brightness in completely dark room. The first is 50% brightness in same room.

Tried to put in my serial no to get build date but keep getting message stating my serial number cannot be found. Even tried to get my husband to do it in case I was doing something wrong but he got the same result.

It's fine.

Does it get worse overtime? I have a small amount near bottom.

No. It doesn't.

Seriously people, only one picture posted has BAD bleed, the rest look OK.

EDIT: ok three pics posted now have bad bleed.

Good Lord, this again. If you're expecting perfection from a $500-$900 device with a 2048x1536 IPS display you're delusional. Plus, when this many iPads have some type of bleeding it's obviously within tolerance. if you don't notice the issue in normal use then don't worry about it and enjoy your iPad.

Everyone is entitled to have their own set of expectations for a $900 device, especially when the display is now marketed as the best. Also others claim not to have any backlight bleeding so those with backlight bleeding would prefer to get one that is flawless as well. Sure some screens have acceptable bleeding but we all have different levels of what is acceptable and we also use the Ipad a bit different, I dont own the new Ipad yet but I plan to get one and use it as my primary movie and web device, so having minimal backlight bleeding is preferred for me with movies. Others may get the device and not play any movies with it at all so the backlight bleeding is pretty moot on their end.

I dont know how good the exchange warranty is for apple devices in my country (Philippines) when purchasing from an authorized reseller but I would prefer to have one without any issues what so ever.
