This is what I was thinking, it was getting an exploit and exploting it that took so friggin long with the a5, and they've already got 3 seperate exploits up and working, it's just modification now.

and the fact that they have to release it.I/m not saying it will take long to release it, but it is dependent upon them. But end of april would be nice :D

This is off topic, but I read or heard that jailbreaks will make your iPad slower than a non-jailbreaked one? Is this true, and is there any reason why?

It can yes and does quite often. It boils down to more running processes and mobile substrates. Occasionally you'll also get packages with memory leaks that eventually cause crashes too.

Yes it can, but over the year i've had my jailbroken iPad i've had to go back to unjailbroken a few times, and I can tell you that it really isn't noticeable unless you get a tweak called Winterboard, which allows you to theme your device, I mean this tweak alone increased my boot up time and created lag on about every possible action, without it i really don't notice much of a speed reduction at all.

But with a jailbreak you also have the ability to remove certain things from memory...and there are tweaks to speed up the UI animations which makes your device faster. The jailbreak is absolutely a good thing because you have full control over what you want to do.

I was not saying the jailbreak was a bad thing, in fact I will contine to jailbreak every device I get, I was just saying that yes it can make your device slower if you just go and download every tweak and utility that you see.

It's not the first time devs have claimed (even shown) multiple exploits only to work out they really have jack all in the way of a publicly usable exploit.

I gotcha dude :) I know you weren't saying that. My point was that yes you can make it slower (by installing every tweak like you said), but you can also make it faster! So you answered the original question perfectly...I just jumped ahead and caused confusion :D sorry

True... but FakeOverclock doesn't make your device faster, it only make the animations faster giving you the illusion that your device has been OCd, hence the name "Fake". :D Having more control might be a good thing but it does come with risks and disadvantages: stability being the number 1 disadvantage. Plenty of JB users don't have any issues at all but there are probably an equal number of users who experience significant performance loss. It all depends on what you use JB for and what Cydia apps you install.

I am curious i recieved this email reply yest from this site. Is this bogus or a scam.
I am not affiliated with them - so i hope it is ok to post their info...

not exactly, usually its closed by apple, or they way they get the payload involves a dev account with apple, thus making it hard to release it to the public

Hey, new guy here and I really would like to know when, if ever, the untethered version of the iPad 3 jailbreak is going to be released. An estimated time such as "the end of the month" will suffice.

Thanks.

Hang on....

I already miss my jailbreak since I sold my iPad 2 and got the 3rd gen.

Something tells me I should've waited to sell it....

Jeez, lots of hate coming from idiots who can't answer a simple question. inb4*****torm

I realized that I'm asking for a untethered jailbreak but considering I never really turn my iPad off, can someone pinpoint me where I can get an iPad 3 5.1 tethered jailbreak, if it exists? I think I read somewhere that I can just use the one for the iPad 2 but the ones I've looked up said they are incompatible.

It doesn't exist yet. It's not IOS 5.1 that's the problem it's the A5X chip. You can tether on the iPhone 4S because it has the A5 chip. Maybe it will take a while, maybe it won't. You just have to sit tight and wait. I'm having withdrawal syptoms myself so you're not alone!

Here is the matrix of all Apple Devices and which Jailbreak you can use with each version of the OS. http://www.jailbreakmatrix.com/chart

Why dont you ask the devs who work on it if you wnat to know when the jailbreak will be ready? Contact them at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

These are the guys working on the jailbreak, and would be the best source for all your jailbreaking needs. They have their twitter accounts there as well so you can contact directly

Why is this so hard for people to understand? The iPhone Dev team is the best people to ask for if/when a jailbreak will be released. WE all have teh same info.

That jailbreakmatrix site is outdated on the iPad info. I wish a site that has the goal of providing info would keep it up to date. does not even mention the 5.0.1 iPad jailbreak. it's been out for a while. I didn't check their iPhone info.

This information is completely wrong. You cannot have a "tethered" jailbreak with an iPhone 4S, iPad 2, or iPad 3. For all intents and purposes there is very little difference between the A5 & A5X processor. The A5X has the same GPU as the A5, it just has 4 cores instead of 2. That's the only meaningful difference. If there was a BootROM exploit for the 4S or iPad 2 it would also work with the A5X. There has yet to be a BootROM exploit discovered for the A5 processors which means there is no tethered jailbreak. Geohot's Limra1n was the last BootROM exploit released publicly and it only applies to the A3 (I know that wasn't the official name of it) and A4 processors in the 3GS, 4, and iPad 1.

Those who really support all the people involved in coming up with the JB will know better than to come to a forum like this and ask "when". Imagine for a moment that you're the coder/hacker working on it knowing millions of people are anxious about it, you really don't need all, some or even a portion of them sending emails or posting to their twitter/facebook accounts with "are you there yet?" The reality is most of you haven't supported these guys and are mostly leeches.

Pod2g has an article out regarding how you can help him out, instead of crying about when it'll be out and tapping your feet, why don't you try and put in .1% of the work he does and provide him with something he needs.

If that's too much to ask of you, how's about some words of encouragement and appreciation for all the time he puts in without charging any of you a penny for the fruits of his labor.

Who should I be following on twitter for the latest jailbreak news? Cheers guys.

0% is only half the issue of a tethered jb. A lot of apps you install from Cydia require a full reboot and thus require you to boot tethered.
Actually, few Cydia apps require a full reboot. And of the ones that do, most of them are apps you install right after installing Cydia. And if you accidentally update one you don't "have" to reboot: you can exit with the home button and reboot when you are better prepared.

A lot of Cydia apps need a respring after installing or updating, but that is not a problem when tethered.

I have no problem using a tethered jb on my iPad. I have used a tether jb for iPads every time one was available. Yet not one single time was I left with it unusable because of being tethered.

And god forbid it did happen? It's just my iPad. Sure I wouldn't chance it for a trip to BFE but for everyday use I find a tethered jb to be much less of an issue than some seem to think.

My iPhone, is different story. I will not use a tethered jb on that. Perhaps semi-tethered so I can still use my phone, but that is about it.
