ooo ooo pick me!!!!!
Is it because that first quote was for the Jan-March quarter(4 months ago and 6-7 months from the rumored iPad 3 release date, which really puts "soon" into perspective)? They have easily matched demand now. I was just at a target and happened to look at their iPad section. They had maybe 30 iPads spread out over many models. Sure they didn't have all models, but most. They are selling well, yes. But they are able to keep most stores decently stocked.
Or is it because Apple wants to put all their iOS devices on the same cycle? (oh so THAT'S why the iPhone 5 and iOS 5 are delayed). It makes the most sense to refresh them all at the same time. It makes development much easier, and then the new hardware can all be aligned with the new software. Would you prefer Apple wait till September 2012 to release an iPad 3? didn't think so
Oh no wait!! Maybe it's because Apple wants to be proactive rather than reactive. The yearly refresh cycle on the iPhone might have been too slow for the rest of the market. iPhone competitors were being spit out every couple weeks which hurt the iPhone sales because it begins looking pretty old and weary the second half of its life. I'm not saying that the iPhone isn't selling well, but the sales always fall dramatically in the march-june timeframe. Apple realizes a bunch of iPad competitors are being released every month. Sure, none of them have yet matched the iPad, but would you prefer Apple just sit back and wait till someone catches up before they release another iPad? Apple knows the competition is coming so they want to be as proactive as possible to fend off the newcomers.
But wait, I'm sure Apple wouldn't want to hurt the feelings of all the fanboys (myself included) who bought an iPad 2 and now somehow feel wronged that Apple didn't stop development...
