The March version of iPad 5 would fit my cycle. Right now my iPad3 serve me well. No direct need for a 4th gen. But Nr. 5 could have enough news for me to justify a replacement.

And a little mini when it gets retina.

I'll tell yah when you pay cash (not credit) for everything it makes you slow down on all that silly, just-because spending. Since my 3 works perfectly and in a case theirs no need to upgrade, thats 5-6 hundred dollars that can go elsewhere since apple products aren't the only thing I buy.

it depends. i currently have an ipad 3 and ipad mini.

i'm giving the ipad mini to my parents. great size and especially the weight, but having no retina screen sucks (especially since i have an iphone 4s, ipad 3 and 15" rmbp).

if the next iteration of ipad mini has decent specs and retina display, i'll get that. otherwise i'm not really interested in another regular sized ipad unless its weight becomes substantially less than the ipad 3.

I like the full sized iPads so I don't think I'll go to the Mini even if it goes retina next gen. Since I'm getting married and buying a new house this year, the iPad 5 is probably not in the cards. iPad 6, here I come! :)

Got my ipad in April 2012 & the extended warranty, I have been calling cs since June complaining that my ipad refuses to charge after repetitive attempts. After 30 or more call investing a minimum of an hour each Apple CS says it must be a software issue. OK gave them my CC info and they charged my acct 31x. When I called to complain, they didn't bother to apologize they asked for my CC again, citing that the only way to get my ipad replaced was to charge and place a $700.00+ charge on my acct again. After the unauthorized 31 charges I refused to give them access again. So, does any one have any advice, I only have 15% battery left, I have tried every thing rebooting restarting resetting, the only resolve is inserting the power cord in the ipad 75 to 100 times every day when the battery gets low. Eventually i'll get a ding & it will start charging, my finger are literally sore.

This really should be its own thread, but try a different cord. Where do you live and where did you buy your iPad?

my guess is your cord is screwed or you're attempting to charge it through a low powered usb hub or port.

I might by iPad mini in a few days.

I have iPad 3 32GB with LTE.
I can sell it for more than a iPad Mini 16GB LTE costs, so I have money left over.

I bought a 32gb LTE iPad at launch. When the iPad 4 was released mid-year, I'll admit I was one of the upset iPad 3 owners. I grumbled about it for a couple days until I realized that my iPad 3 does everything that I bought it for & still does a great job at it.

I don't see needing to upgrade unless one of two things happen:

A. My hardware needs change.
B. The firmware is no longer supported to the point where I can no longer use needed apps.

Incremental upgrades like a nicer camera or faster processor are nice, but not something I really need in order to use the iPad how I intended to when I purchased it. The retina display and LTE were big selling points for me when I bought the iPad 3 & it's display & connectivity are just as good as the day I opened the box.

Only upgraded to the 3 from my original ipad because I knew that the original would stop getting software updates. As far as I'm concerned my ipad 3 is perfect for my needs.

Whatever the 9.7" model is at the time. If some OS update will keep the thing from doing it's "Thinker" imitation by refusing to respond to input at times, then that probably won't be for a few years.

I'm hoping there will be a 128GB model soon, hopefully the $599 model by then. I also may think about getting a cellular model by then because I keep getting in more situations when I could use it. But to get the $10/month plan for that on Verizon, I would have to upgrade to the share plan. That share plan is another $20 on top of what I pay now and makes the hotspot feature free. So unless I'm making way more money, that sounds like an easy way to keep from spending another $10/month.

I need the larger screen for work, and won't by upgrading my 3gen until there's something that offers a significant improvement to my work flow. I'm not really interested in the mini (certainly not without retina) - I like e-ink for my recreational reading and for everything else I prefer the larger screen.

Funny you ask this as I was just thinking about this during my walk to the train this morning. I had a 3 and recently upgraded to the 4. I love the 4, but I feel like at this point what else is there left to do with the iPad as far as upgrades outside of the processor and ram.

If Apple releases the next model in March i cant see there being much change to the cpu/ram over the current model. The A6 type CPUs have only been on the market a few months and the iPad has more than enough RAM.

The weight/form factor is most likely the next big thing Apple will look into changing with next full size iPad. There are a few improvements that could be made, such as the much rumoured IGZO screens, they are thinner and lighter, it would result in less power usage less need for a large battery and faster charging. Reducing the size of the bezel to something more "mini" like could be another possibility.

The weight of the iPad 3/4 is the main reason for me considering a Mini and as a result then starting up this thread. As much as i would miss the beautifully bright and inky Retina screen it is just too heavy in its current form, the iPad 2 was noticeably lighter but the Mini was just perfect for one handed and portable use when i tried one. The extra weight has clearly been a compromise for Apple and i'm sure the next refresh will reduce it, which makes my decision more difficult. hmmm

The only way I am going to upgrade from my iPad 3 is when they offer a sgnificantly lighter version with greatly reduced charging times...

I'm using my 3 until the day it dies or until it doesn't perform tasks up to my specifications. So I'm thinking at least iPad 6 if not further.

Until then, long live the iPad 3!!!!!!!

One that is faster AND lighter. Reduced glare and better speakers would also be welcome, battery life is already awesome for me, can get up to 3 days of light usage and normal usage I usually get 2.

I honestly doubt the 5th gen will be announced in march (although I would be pleased if it was) and I think the release cycle is now right before the holiday season yearly. Im really squeazed on space with the 16GB and really would like to upgrade to 32GB but the 4th gen just doesnt seem like a big enough upgrade :(

I will hold on to my iPad 3 until retina mini comes out. I will still keep the 3 but use the mini as my main tablet device.

I have an iPad 3 and just added a mini to my collection for Christmas. I love it!!

My next ipad will be when this one stops being functional for my purposes. And since all I do is check some websites occasionally on 3G, I think it will be fine for many years to come

I'm another happy iPad 3 camper here! Considering I bought a mini last week, I'm keeping my 3 for a few more years. I will keep my 3 because I paid extra for lte, which is a great feature if you ask me. I will buy more iPads if and only if my business gets off the ground. :D

I got a iPad 3 with 4G and bought myself a Mini in december. I always bring my mini when I leave the house so I guess it's the one that gets the most attention these days, but I still use my 3 around the house quite alot and I have no complaints about it. I won't be getting the iPad 4, but probably the next generation which I doubt will be released in march.

There isn't enough business value to release on already, there is no clear iPad4-killer coming to market in the upcoming months. So Im guessing summer the earliest.
