I don't see the point of carrying around 1080p video on a 9.7 inch screen. And your kids could care less if sponge bob square pants is slightly less crisp.

I solely watch video on my iPad and most of the time I don't notice that I'm not watching HD. If it comes down to storing 3 SD movies or 1 HD I'd rather just carry around the SD and be happy I can carry more.

If you follow that logic there is no point in putting a retina screen on it then is there? We might as well stick with the iPad 2.

The whole point of giving it a better screen is so that you can watch HD movies. That's why we need more memory coz HD movies are twice the size of SD movies. Add HD games, HD TV shows, etc, etc.

Are you getting it yet? HD content takes up more memory hence why we need more memory on the iPad 3.

I feel like I'm talking to a kindergarten class.

We have 10% GST though.

Which we had before parity and the prices were much the same. The prices didn't drop at all until well after parity had been around for a while. And still were more than the gst on top.

That is a dead argument.

I think most of us expected this. I don't think any iOS device has ever gone up in price compared to a model before. The top-level iPhone 4S is $100 more than the previous generation, but that's an extra 32GB of storage that didn't exist before.

I didn't expect to see any storage bumps considering how much of an improvement the Retina Display will be combined with the A6. The iPhone 4 didn't boost storage when it got the Retina Display, so this was seen coming.

Apple will probably have to start bumping storage next year since the increased pixels means a 1080p video will be playable on the iPad in native resolution. If any higher-quality audio is offered at some point via iTunes (Dolby Digital encoding, lossless), then more storage will be a must.

The reason why more storage is a must is because people will increasingly start using their iPad as their main device and will expect it to be closer to a PC, and that's where storage will matter, especially when the device will have a retina display, impressive computing power with bigger and more capable apps and games.

We are approaching the twilight zone where the line between the iPad and Macbook air are starting to blur.

We are in agreement. I feel like you're in a kindergarten class as well...

Retina display isn't purely about hd video, which is what I was discussing. It will make text on web pages and books infinitely better. Games will only look as good as the gpu makes them and visually your eyes will NOT be able to distinguish 720p from 1080p on a 9.7 inch screen. I CAN see the difference between 720 and SD but honestly it's so visually negligible it's not worth the wasted space.

My previous comment was in regards to that posters going on about only being able to hold few hours of cartoons and not having enough room. Solution.. You really don't need HD video on your iPad. Not to mention decoding hd video is more processor intensive therefore more battery intensive on your iPad.

I think one of the things that people who are asking for more storage space need to ask of themselves is - do you really need to carry every photo, song, video, app, that you've collected?

Not asking for a 12 TB Ipad (ie to keep all my stuff), asking them to double the size of their largest iPad since they are already buying the parts they need to do that for their iPhone 4S, and they haven't increased memory capacity for iPad yet. They just increased the screensize by a factor of 4X, the games are going to grow significantly, the video is going to take up much more space, the screen is going to be great to proof pictures so why not increase the memory size since its already going to be cramped when the new screen starts to be supported.

I've already gotten good at dumping apps I'm not using, because there just isn't a reason to keep them. It's not like the old days when you load a program onto your computer. You can and should be dumping apps, photos, songs, videos, books, etc, if you're not using them. You're not going to lose them, like the old days. That's part of what iCloud is supposed to be doing for us - keeping track of what we've purchased, shot, etc. No sense having it reside on the phone or tablet, if you're not actively using it.

Why am I not losing them like the old days? Where exactly is my video and photos going in your world, they sure dont live forever in the cloud. Books I dont buy from Apple are gone as well. Sure if I have wifi I can download any content I bought from apple (apps, movies, tv & books) and any of my 124 GB of music since I pay for itunes match, but I have to have wifi to do it, and really it takes a long time to reload a 64 GB iPad over USB 2.

I think the real issue is that people are lazy. I've looked at my stepson's Touch and even though he has 32gb of space (so space isn't an issue), he's got games and apps on it that he hasn't and won't look at ever again. When I ask him why he's not dumping old crap, he says "I don't care if they're on there". Go back and look at all the apps you've bought. Chances are pretty good that you'll question why you're keeping some. And same goes for music, videos, books, etc. Do you really need to keep a book or comic stored on the iPad or iPhone after you've read it once, twice, three times? For god's sake, dump it once you're done with it.
I think the real issue is people can't imagine why others would use a tool differently. I use all 64 GB of the data I have on my iPad when I go on a one of my two week trips. If I had more room, I wouldnt have to reload it so often before I go back, I wouldnt have to do trips with cards and DCIM directories to sneak more files with me for the iPad. This is what you need to do before calling others lazy. Go put your best stuff, everything you think you will use on it for the next 2 weeks, then dont sync your ipad for the next two weeks, dont use wifi on it for the next two weeks, dont use 3G if you have it for the next two weeks. Realize that for alot of us thats why we need more space. Your crutch (ie wifi, sync with cloud, 3G) isnt available because we are out of the country, away from 3G access, in many cases needing lots of data available in a location where acquiring data is very hard to do.

I'm sure there are people who could fill 16gb or more on a daily basis, like photographers, but even then, they should be archiving what they shoot and not expecting a portable tablet to be their sole storage solution.

No photographer is wanting to use it as his sole source of storage, but being able to use it as a backup and previewer is awesome (especially with the new screen) and honestly with them just having increased screen requirements by 4X, doesnt it make sense to increase storage space by 2X when they havent done that yet in the history of the product?

You're wrong, photographers would love to use the iPad as their main catalogue. I work in the creative industry and the iPad is absolutely fantastic for storing concepts, proposals and photographs thanks to its brilliant screen but more importantly its portability.

Carrying a laptop while out on the field can be bulky and the iPad + camera kit has made my life a charm. I can sync photos in a mere seconds, back them up using iCloud or share them with my creative partner. It's one of the best digital tools for the creative industry.

aint that the truth homeboy! It doesn't *need* to be limited to ipad but I can't find many that do it with other tablets.

Cough, cough....

In fact, the text will look so much better that at the moment when first iPad 3 is turned on and used to access google it will warp itself into tachyonic state, rip apart time space continuum and teleport everything in the radius of 5 light years to parallel universe ruled by female androids.

iPad 3 must be stopped NOW!

You are, apple regresses people to that age a lot of time, although some of the forum members here need only go back a decade or so.

Again, since you are talking about me, let me chime in.

I don't have any HD video on my ipad. Like I already said. SD video takes alot of room with the compression that Apple has chosen.

I need more space. You don't. I don't need you to understand. Just accept. Stop "going on and on" trying to rip apart everyone's useage model except your own.

That is why Apple makes three memory levels of ipad. And hopefully the top level will go up.

You feel free to keep buyng your 16gb model, since it works for you. Hey, the rumor is Apple will release an 8GB version. That should make you happy, since it matches your useage style.

My response wasn't just in regards to you, it was referencing the remarks by the previous poster... I actually missed your response when I posted this one.

As I'm sure, yes 128gb would be very nice on an iPad, but it feels like over-kill in my opinion. I realize you need more space for your needs but the general consensus of people who want a higher capacity iPad is that, "it has teh HD, so we needs more storage".

I was merely posting about THAT but quoted your post because it was the last one I had read. It was more of a blanket statement on the entire thread rather than an attack on you. Sorry about that.

Would an HD screen not make it better for those of us who might like to edit photographs on the iPad - whilst out in the field (where there is no wifi, no 3g and no other connection)?

If so, I wouldn't mind that. Having said that, I would prefer more memory to a better screen, as the iPad screen is not calibrated for photographic editing.

I definitely think 128GB storage will be worthwhile, although I don't think we'll see it this time around. Take into account 4GB per 1080p movie, 1.5GB for current high end games, and then the size of 1080p videos from the camera. It'll fill up reasonably quick.

Yes cause people actually would use that much on a tablet

Of course they could. What the hell are you talking about? I have a 64GB 3G ipad two and it is %100 full all the time. It's a huge pain in the @ss to change the files all the time. I can only put less than 1/2 my games on the thing. I don't buy just crap games like angry bird. I have almost all of the EA and gameloft games which if you knew anything take a lot of room. If there is no ipads with 128GB or more I will not buy the ipad 2S.

I am not wrong Homeboy, read what I wrote. I'm the one pushing for a 128 GB iPad. Someone suggested that you, me and every other photographer on here wants a bigger iPad so it can be the SOLE STORAGE SOLUTION for all our pictures. I was pointing out thats not what I or others want, we just need more room especially now that the retina display will turn a good previewer into a great one. I dont expect a 12 TB iPad to store everything, but cameras are increasing in resolution constantly, having us still using the space we had with iPad 1, when they ship iPad 3, is a little disappointing.

I can't wait untill Wednesday!!!:D :p

Why?

The ipad 2S is guarenteed to disappoint a lot of people. Not enough memory or storage space and not high enough resolution screen (unless Apple magic allows them to temporarily suspend physical laws of the universe).

Too much hype for an incremental upgrade.

I hope you all will be back on Wednesday at 1:07 pm to say "I told you so", because I would like to buy this magical upgrade...

Of course, I will be buying it regardless of what it offers.

It won't be "iPad 2S", it's going to be iPad 3. There will be enough memory, and 64GB of storage is enough to use it, 128GB would just allow for more content. You'll still be able to fit a reasonable amount of stuff on.

64gb is enough (let's take this as a working hypothesis cause I don't think it is) but 16 and 32 gbs are not, and those are two iPad models.

For some, 16GB and 32GB are plenty. It really depends on what you intend to do with it, I'd like to store some movies, have heaps of games, and other than that not too much.

sell the #2 quick ?

hey guys with the price of the#2 wifi 64 dropping by the day it seems. if I offload it now what should I expect to get ?

Yeah it's such a pain in the as.s to do that...especially with wifi sync. I'm gonna call your bluff and say that you're gonna buy it regardless.

----------

I would; nice to know you're an 'average' user though; let's all continue to curtail progress for the sake of the lowest common denominator.

Progress in what regard? You say average user like it's something bad. So what...advanced users are too lazy to delete apps that they don't use or movies that they don't watch?

----------

I would; nice to know you're an 'average' user though; let's all continue to curtail progress for the sake of the lowest common denominator.

oh and to call the average user the lowest common denominator is kind of dumb...considering that's what most companies cater to. What's the best selling ipad? 16 GB Wifi. if that's the case, why would you, as apple, make a larger one as the base model simply for the sake or progress (which it isn't)? By doing so you'd lower margins. And before you say "they can lower margins, they have so much money," let me say that there's no such thing as making too much money for a business.

----------

I do it. Then again the four playlists that I listen to are 90% of my collection.

----------

And that is how we want it. No one is telling you to give up your laptop and o things the way we say to do it, so extend the courtesy back and stop being a jerk

No but that defeats the entire purpose of an ipad. Sensitive group, the apple bunch. With that said, my regular devices are all the latest apple ones. But being logical isn't being a jerk. Calm down.

----------

How are all these posters saying they NEED 128 gb or else it's a DISASTER!!!?

This is ridiculous, no one NEEDS 128 GB on an iPad, it may be nice, or desirable, but never, ever, in this dy and age, necessary.

There is a finite amount of flash that will exist in calendar 2012. There is no doubt in my mind that I'd rather see much of that flash as larger storage capacity laptops and even super speedy desktops than having a few people be able to be lazy and keep more data on their iPad.

This isn't coming from the perspective of a guy with no media. My iTunes library is upwards of 45,000 songs, I have close to a terabyte of movies and tv shows. I also got a 32 gb iPad, and have never once needed more than 16gb, including when I drove across the country and my laptop was stowed away. Had 20 gigs of my favorite music on my iPhone, a season of frasier

Thank you....my point exactly.
