It's the same logic as to why the ipad2 was able to cost the same amount as the first ipad2 did in its heyday, despite being statistically superior in every way.

Advancements in technology and production may in the future allow the same product to be manufactured at a lower price, which by extension implies that you can also make a better ipad for the same price. :)

I dunno. Sometimes thin is too thin. The iPad 2 is thin enough IMHO. Any thinner, and it'd start to get too delicate. You want SOME heft to a tablet. Too light or thin, and it could get harder to hold onto. I think the ipad 2 size and wt is the sweet spot. lol. But what the heck do i know? I thought the ipad 1 was perfect when i got it. Lol. Apple knows best. ;)

Keep the thin size and current screen size, but they gotta lose the weight.
Or maybe I have to push some more weight! :D

If you think the ipad is heavy, you seriously need to push some more weight. Any lighter and it would feel cheap.

The iPad's battery will not get worn out that easy. The battery has 1000 charge/discharge cycles before loosing just 20% of its original capacity. If you charge the iPad one time every two days, it'll last you more than 5 years.

Sounds good, sounds good. :)

If it lasts 5 years, I guess one would want a newer iPad model instead of replacing the battery at the time it's worn out.

I guess so. But if it will sacrifice battery power, i'd rather have it stay the same thickness of the ipad 2. A retina display that big is gonna suck juice like a parched desert nomad. :eek:

Retina itself should not suck more as the main sucker is the backlight that will probably stay the same in terms of sucking power .. (would not mind if the max lumens increase to be more sun light visible ..) On the other side the graph processing part will require more horses to drive the x4 pixs but this should be compensated by the A5=> A6 technology node advancement

Ouuuu !

Sorry I mean patents ....All the rage ya know.

You wanna know why I don't edit it ? I don't care and its funny that the only thing people can pick on is that stupid error and not my point:rolleyes:

1 - Its a funny error - for someone who likes to laugh you should get that.

2 - Nope - not patents. Otherwise you could probably sue Samsung. Which may help with the rage.

3 - Patience. You have little patience.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again.

It will be the iPad Pro and cost a couple hundred more than the 2.

The 2 will still be available and seeing as it has no real competition, there is no reason to phase it out.

There wont be any iPad pro crap IMO. Worst case scenario will be apple continues to sell iPad 2 16gb model @ $499 and iPad 3 (with retina display and A6 processor) available only in 32 and 64 gb models only (at the same 599/699 price points) as those models have quite bigger margin compared to 16gb model. Just like they did with the 3rd gen iPod touchs.

The waiting game with technology is a waste of time to some but I rather jump on board at the beginning of the product cycle than towards the end and suffer a dramatic loss in value over a short period of time.

For my 21st birthday my parents are getting me an iPad. They have not purchased and I really do not NEED one so I might as well wait but the question is HOW LONG?

I hope in the upcoming weeks we get more information about the rumors.

(I still think flash support n HDMI would be nice lol perhaps with Jobs stepping down we might, but probably not)

I HOPE THE THIS IS JUST A RUMOR JUST GOT AN IPAD 64GB BLACK :D

A Retina-display iPad would be a game-changer. Higher res than many Apple laptops? That's that a killer feature.

In reply to the first paragraph above: All Apple's competitors are wrestling with that same question as they try to match Apple's specs and price point. You know, when Apple releases the iPad3 it will be some kind of advancement in specs, and not cost any more then at present.

Replying to your second paragraph. You underestimate the power of Apple's Reality Distortion Field® to transcend physics as we understand it. It vill vork und you vill vant it! ;)
Since you've ignored my first paragraph, I'm guessing you don't expect the next-gen iPad to increase in price.

Actually, I was wrong in my first post. The base model iPad 2 is/was estimated at 325$ a piece. The A5 costs 75% more then the A4. I'm guessing something similar will happen with the A6. The display costs will (at least) double if they include the Retina display. The battery, which is already rumored to increase in price (while retaining the same capacity), has to be larger (cpu has a higher tdp, so has the backlit).

So as much as I would love spending my money on such a machine, I'm not planning on investing in gold ******** donkey factory, because thats the only way they'll be able to finance this device. There's no way they'll sell this device at the same pricepoint, if they'll even release it all together.

The same will happen with iPad 3 as is happening with the iPhone '5'. High expectations (all thanks to some shady rumors), while in reality only the obvious features make it into the final device.

IPad Pro

* Quad-core
* 128GB
* WiFi-Only
* Same battery life as iPad 2.

$799

I love my iPad 2 but I'm already feeling it's power limitations when processing photos. I have 30MB RAW files and it just takes to long for conversion and exporting the changes. It's not photoshop after all.

Retina would be nice. But we'd be talking $1000 and that would be a really tough sell for me. If they had darn Bluetooth-mouse support I THEN might go for it! LOL!

I think a digitizer pen would be better. Ideally with pressure sensitivity.

iPAD 3 with retina + increased memory would definitely be a game changer!

Since iTunes support 1080p video; it would make sense that the ipad3 have 8megapixel camera + 1080p video play-back - this bump would justify 32gb iPad 3 to be the base model, with 128gb being the top model

Ipad 3 pro that is $800 for a base model kind of counters steve's vision and ethos for the iPad being a product for the masses

PS $5 cover charge to visit an apple store... rofl

what about the privilege of visiting the apple online store - should that also be automatically charge customers too???

lol
