I suggest those waiting hold their breath. Either you want an iPad or you don't. If you can wait 6-12 months for something, the product probably isn't what you are looking for in the first place...

Well, in my case I may be waiting the 6 months or so for the iPad2 or even hold out for the iPad3 next March reason being that I'm purchasing a 27" iMac when they are refreshed this year as well as upgrading my iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 5 once that is released.

Duh!

Too bad this won't stop the rumors on every iPad related post on every website.

I'm still not sure about a double res screen on iPad3

It's going to be hard to make the iPad3 have four times the pixels of the iPad1 or iPad2. AND be faster than the iPad2.

Good, would have been a pain having to buy the iPad 3 so soon after iPad 2, my wife and bank manager will be happy.

:)

The real question is when will the new iMac's come out?

+1

I'm itching to update my iMac now. I'm tempted to wait until they start shipping with Lion though.

As far as iPad 3 rumors go, I really never bought into them. I imagine that if there is ~any~ truth at all to a fall update, it might be an extension to the current line, like a 128GB model in time for the holidays. (although, given Apple's rumored cloud strategy, we may not see 128GB iPad's for a while...)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

Who really thought another iPad would come out this year...i mean honestly? :rolleyes:

Honestly?

Here is what I think. At the fall iPod debuts we will see a new iPod targeted at the space between a Touch and an iPad. The current iPad 2 will not be replaced though an update is always possible.

This new iPod/Mini iPad would be marketed as a Video & gaming device. At least that is one possibility I imagine. The thing is iOS is hot and Apple needs to exploit that with desirable devices.

Of course they weren't going to release two in one year. That was all just wishful thinking. Even if they did then to me it would be unsound as a business strategy as they'd then marginalize the iPad 2 and make less profit. And I'd assume the R&D would cost a big chunk.

For the last time.... it's not coming out this year.

iPad = spring
iPhone = summer
iPod = fall

Once a year cycle. Stupid source.

Except that the iPhone 4 will likely not be released this summer. ;)

Rules are meant to be broken, especially if you intend to keep your competitors on the edge.

I can agree that it's always unlikely that Apple will release multiple models from the same product line in one year, however.

Exactly. Who are they even competing against? 100K XOOMs sold is a joke.

The home button is part of the mechanism for escaping crashes so it would be a bit dumb to have the means of escape software based' ie touch.

Going "touch" does not necessarily mean controlled by high-level software. Take the Cube - it's power button was touch as well and you could escape a crashed computer by holding it for five seconds.

The advantage of a "touch" homebutton would be a better immersion into the device - Steve doesn't like buttons - and less wear-prone mechanics. Apple did that in the past with the iPod wheel already...

In other shocking news, the next U.S. presidential election has been pushed back to 2012.

It may not necessarily be an iPad 3, a whole new product that the rumours are referring to. What if Apple update the iPad 2 with a better display at the at the end of the year. It will still be called iPad 2 and it will still be 'year of the iPad 2'.

They updated the original iPhones later in the year with updated hard drives. For all we know Apple already know that they can fit a higher res display (not necessarily a retina display) into the current design.

I think its unlikely anything will happen at the end of the year but you never know.
