Buy ipad 2 now and enjoy the most of it.. This is a stupid thread.. You look like an idiot you want 8 megapixel camera. Nowadays the small camera the better. Now if your main reason for 8megPixel is to have it as your main camera I'm so sorry to you. You are an idiot.

You think you are cool taking pictures with gigantic device?

There is no nead for name calling ****face.

I wanted to take iPad 2 on holiday as my main camera, That's not going to happen with the camera under 1mp

You have an iPhone 4 and you were thinking of using an iPad as main camera? You ARE an idiot.

I dont really carry my iPhone 4 about on holiday as it's too expensive for roaming data, but I will be taking my iPad to the beach and out for meals, I wanted to use that as my holiday camera to take pictures at the dinner table and stuff.

Is that a problem?

Would be for me, but, hey to each, his own. If I saw you in the restaurant, I'd probably make fun of you under my breath :)

It's ok, but it's bizarre. The iPhone 4's camera still works without data you know...
Personally I'd never use the iPads camera if I had an iPhone4. And if i wanted to take decent pictures on holiday i'd take my decent camera. Not a ten inch screen with a mobile sensor, 1mp or 8mp.

I'd rather they scrapped the back camera on the back and put the effort into the front one, HD like the new MBPs.

iPad 3 i would like Retina, SD slot, more storage.
But I can wait for that til 4th. Will be buying iPad 2 next week (my first)

I am certain the iPad will eventually receive a Retina Display but keep things in perspective. The original reason it was included on the iPhone is make tiny text on the iPhone more legible (less pixelated). The iPad screen is much larger than the iPhone so legibility is less of an issue.
It's not just tiny text that benefits, normal sized text, graphs and pictures benefit in clarity, too. Plus it largely gets rid of the screen door effect, which may be just as important.

I agree with the OP, except for SSD. Flash drive works just as well, if not at a lower power than SSD.
A Flash drive is a solid state drive.

Built in IR transmitter so I can use it as a universal remote. Then I'd be sold. Oh, and if it could take me back to the 90's that would be a plus.

Yup. :) I can't wait.

A Flash drive is a solid state drive.
I think the poster was trying to differentiate between the kind of SSD that is replaceable, at least in theory, and the flash memory that is soldered to the device and used as a drive.

Retina Display is not happening in 3 or even 4.
It is going to have to be 3000 X 2000 or something ridiculous for a 10 inch screen. An "IPS" screen like that will be too expensive for any foreseeable future.

With the new skinny design - I think it's obvious Apple has ZERO plans to introduce any ports on this device unless it goes through the 30 pin.

Having just got my refurb iPad, a file system is honestly yhte most important thing to me right now. The iPad 2seems to solve the lagging issues so the only thing between this being a toy and something capable of replacing even my laptop for many tasks is the lack of a file system.and ms office lol but that's on ms.. And I'm getting the feeling that they will hold onto office in order to sell their tablets in the enterprise world in 2012. But I digress....

A file system. I hope mr jobs isn't so hell bent on this NOT being a pc that he won't give us one. I guess that is more of an iOS thing than iPad 3 but whatever :)

IF we get one eventually though, larger storage standard would be nice in addition to the obvious speed bump. Honestly I don't care about the rez, it's fine for me. But maybe I'm just saying that bc I don't have an iPhone :). And actually, some blasted arrow keys on this keyboard would be nice

Flash as an option.

The iPad is perfect for school, except for the fact half of my classes require websites that use Flash!

Actually now that I think about it, I hope there is continued emphasis on size and weight - honestly before much longer the tech specs are going to get good enough for any kind of work you can expect to do on the iPad and the IMO form factor and portability take precedence.

A little premature for this dont you think?

The only thing apple needs is retina for the next one.

the only thing that has kept me from buying an iPad is the screen resolution. it honestly feels like looking through a screen door to me. the minute there is a higher resolution screen i'll bite.

oh, and a simplified file system would be nice.

I'd also like to see a simplified, database driven (i.e. not just folder based) file system. And a fingerprint reader, a smaller bezel, and further weight reduction.

The most likely resolution bump is 2048x1536. And such display panels are almost certainly going to be available within the next two years.

I'm looking forwad to this.

What would you like to be included?

I'm hoping for:

Retina Display
4MP Camera back, 1.5MP front
1GB Memory
64GB solid state
faster dual core
Realism edited in. Come on, a quad core with 2GB RAM? That would need one hell of an iOS revolution.

- 5mp rear facing camera with 1080p video recording and flash.
- 720p front facing camera.
- 4G LTE.
- NFC.
- Retina display.
- 128 GB Storage.
- 1GB RAM.
- HDMI out.
- Micro-USB.
- SD card slot.

- Desktop-like OS: AKA Honeycomb-like (widgets, notifications, real tabs etc.)
- File system.
- Adobe Flash
- TomTom equivalent for Maps: again, like Honeycomb's / Android's "directions".

Maybe a quad core?

1. Retina Display
2. Maybe, but more likely current camera from iphone 4 which is 5MP
3. 1GB memory
4. 128GB
5. No quad core. Developers will barely be harnessing power of dual core next year.

I was going to get the ipad 2, but just did not have enough features for me so I'm going to buy someone's sloppy seconds (ipad 1). I can't wait to have more memory (1GB), and retina display which will really make the screen look page like. I think they will also work on antireflective technology. The current screen is too shiny.

Definitely improved cameras - quite surprised the iPad 2 didn't have an HD forward facing camera to match those on the new Macs now that Facetime is rolling out across OS X. The rear camera is definitely limited by the thickness of the device - remember the iPod touch was too thin for the iPhone4's sensor.

Memory will be the same as that in the iPhone5.

There will likely be a storage bump - probably 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. Maybe the entry level raised to 32GB, maybe not.

The next big thing for ARM chips is supposed to be out-of-order execution - the next step to getting more desktop-like power.

There's normally an improvement in battery technology that's cancelled out by higher power chips, so Apple will have a choice between maintaining battery life with faster speeds or getting a bigger battery life with broadly similar performance.
